American League Division Series Game #3 (1-1) 10/9/24 3:08PM

Montero has pitched well against Cleveland this year. Only given up 4 hits struck out 7 and walked 1 in 27 at bats. He also really settled down game 1. My guess is they will let him go as long as possible until any sign of trouble or breakdown in stuff and then a quick hook. -

Nothing on the replay show that it for sure hit the ground. Unfortunately that was a a great catch by a great fielder. -

Get off of TBS and go over to TruTv and it’s been fine. -
10/2/24 2:32PM Tigers @ Astros Wild Card Game 2

I think I make a hard run at Bregman to play 3rd. He knows Hinch and I’ve never heard anything negative on their relationship. Also always positive about Bergman’s leadership in the clubhouse. He’s very good on both sides and balances to the lineup being a righty. I would get Jung experience at 1st base or use him as trade bait to bring in pitching depth. i would try to add a 2 or 3 type arm for the rotation and possible a backup SS unless they want to keep McKinstry in that role. Cut Maeda and Baez and wish them well. look to try and get extensions done with key contributors. -
Listen yes but not on TV. Radio guys call the game and describe in detail because we don’t see it and it gives them more content and less time. TV personalities have a lot of space to fill in. They are also catering to a less informed fan base as the radio listeners don’t want to miss a game. Hence the jokes and feel good stories that get added in that the hardcore fans dislike. This of course is all just my opinion.

You watch/listen to anyone for an entire baseball season and they are going to start to annoy you. To me the simple fact is when given a passable partner Benetti is elite and we are lucky to have him in comparison to the last couple years. Now when paired with a bad partner and we’ve had a few of them this year he tends to try and do to much to help them.

I think there’s other opportunities to free up some space on the 40. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a few players currently playing for the tigers be shipped out to round out the roster better. I’m looking at players like Carp although I hope not because I like watching him hit. however, he doesn’t add a ton of value in the outfield and has been injured a lot. Jung I could see going in a trade to find a right handed bat or pitching definitely if they went after someone like Bregman to play 3rd and you have right handed Lee coming up thru the minors. Malloy and McKinstry would be 2 others I could see moved and that’s just from the hitting side of the roster.
-
I’m not saying he has to go and I have no problem if he stays. However he is 31 and likely not part of a contending team in Detroit so it just wouldn’t upset me either way. I do fully admit that he fills a niche role here very well and we would almost assuredly take a step back in hitting lefties without his bat.
-
I thought about that as well but I’m just not sure as I’m already counting 13. I think infield wise you are at Tork, Keith, Baez, Jung, Sweeney, then Vierling as the swing. outfield- Greene, Carpenter, Meadows, Malloy, Perez Catchers- Rogers and Dingler. Maybe he fits in there and you send Sweeney or Malloy back to the minors which I think the end of this season will tell us that. Also I’d like to see them bring in a 1st basemen that competes with Tork unless you cross train Keith or Jung there.
-
I would be surprised to see Ibanez on this team next year. He’s 31 and heading into 1st arbitration. They may try to trade him for just about anything. I just don't see them wasting a spot. I think the only spot they will look for on the position side would be a 1st basemen that can complement or replace Tork who probably hits from the left side. I will be interested to see what they do with 1B this offseason.

2024 Trade Deadline Rumors and Discussion
Nate7474 replied to LongLiveMaroth's topic in Detroit Tigers
I’m not who you asked but for me it would be something close to this that would make me consider it. Holliday, Povich, Young, Fabian -
I agree that you can’t count on him for 200 innings and that they will need to get a veteran to fill in for the rest of those. All I’m saying is if he’s ready and the best option to get MLB hitters out then he should be in the majors. I don’t believe that the amount of innings he can safely increase should have any bearing on where they are thrown at.
-
No, he makes a valid point. Not having the innings is not an argument for being in the Majors or Minors. He’s either capable of getting MLB hitters out or not yet. This is even more true on the pitching side where arms tend to be injuries waiting to happen.

No problem, Went to Clay myself and was coaching there when Chris was at Genoa.
-
Actually I think they mean Clay Township in Ohio which is also out that way but he went to Genoa School system. Right next to Clay High School though.

2024 Trade Deadline Rumors and Discussion
Nate7474 replied to LongLiveMaroth's topic in Detroit Tigers
I think it would obviously take a lot but I don’t think it’ll only be the major league ready prospects. I just don’t think the Orioles would accept all major league or close ready prospects. Secondly I don’t think the Tigers really want to trade Skubal so the odds of getting a package good enough to trade him would be slim. My guess is at best it would be one of - Holliday, Basallo and Mayo. one of- Norby Cowser and Stowers one SP of- McDermott, Povich, Johnson one- young high ceiling low floor flyer. -
At what point when do our pitchers get to throw against our hitters? But instead of throwing strikes they just get to hit them with the pitch and take out frustrations…
-
I disagree. I actually think the black ones are my favorite ones of the release. It could be that I don’t love the team colors to begin with but that’s what they have to work with.
-
I don’t disagree with you on the preference of those 2 players. I just think we have to look at it from the perspective of who are GM and coach are. They seem to be very loyal to their guys and want to build from within while prioritizing their own players via resigning them. With that said and with them in charge I doubt we will see them go out and give big money and long contracts to free agents. They are going to fill gaps with vets and useful players while protecting the culture at every turn. My guess is they are going to look at finding a ceiling developmental CB in the draft. Also looking for a starting guard within the first 3 rounds to keep the whole OL salary lower as they look to give out big money to Sewell. After that it’ll be about rounding out depth across the whole roster. Whatever they miss out on they will look toward camp casualties to fill out the rest of the roster.

I'd take him back if its at the same cap number as last year or lower and no longer then 1 year, otherwise let him walk. His mouth gets him in trouble but he does add some emotion to the defense and plays with a chip on shoulder. I'd also resign Moseley to a prove 1 year deal and bring in a rookie CB in the first 3 rounds to fight it out in camp at CB3 Sign someone like Gilmore to fill in the other side opposite of Sutton. I'd rather look at vets on 1-2 year deals but If I were to break the bank for anyone is needs to be a younger player at either CB, DE, or pass rushing DT that also deosnt include a franchise tag. ( Allen, Burns, Johnson, Sneed come to mind but all could get franchised)

In hindsight its easy to say he should have kicked the FGs but at the end of the day 1 TD is worth more then 2 FGs and the plays were there and not made by the players on the field. I believe that we have 2 glaring weaknesses that make me good with those decisions. Our kicker is below average for an NFL kicker and our defense is prone to given up lots of chunk plays and points. To finish this year in this spot is a positive and I believe we are here one year faster than Campbell and Holmes were planning on which is why the above weaknesses are still there. This offseason I believe we correct these issues as we have a good drafting GM, cap space to use and a young team with energy that free agents are going to want to be part of. It was a fun season and should be a fun offseason as well. However ,this loss stings for now.
