The right is cheering it on. It was either Bondi or Patel that posted 'no one is above the law' in regards to it. Umm, seems to be at least 1 person above the law.

All my co-workers in the Ashburn area always brag about Wegmans.

Absolutely! When I buy gas I just utter under my breath 'fake news' as I look at the pump, knowing full well that Marathon just wants to humiliate Trump and they are obviously only going to charge me 1.99/gallon.

Only argument I have is that I would substitute 'good' with 'great'. Additionally, it hasn't only helped ensure police follow the laws, but helped police that do follow the laws from getting unwarranted complaints as well. I have a family member that is a Wayne County Sheriff and complaints have dropped tremendously since they were required to wear them. For the majority of complaints he still follows up, he'll show the body cam to the prisoner if it's been deemed not credible and the response most of the time is they just hoped the sheriff had it turned off so they could get in trouble for that. Probably the only group against them now would be defense attorneys.

I rewatched it and there were blue and red lights. I can't say what the laws are there, but in Michigan you can't have the blue. Initially I didn't catch that, I was focusing on the interaction. I'm guessing the guy is going to be tried with obstruction and assault on an officer. That said, I can understand the guy resisting initially, seemed like he had no clue they were law enforcement at first. As for the assault, the two guys had him on the ground, seems like you're typical over policing scrum which led to the one officer getting hurt. Legally, it doesn't appear they did anything wrong. But I can't believe you don't show pause when you see action like that on a street because the guy hasn't taken care of some traffic tickets (and is on a moped, not a semi).

There have been a few well known cases of folks with legal status deported in error. As far as citizens, that one child with cancer enrages me, but you have an argument that it was the parents deported. Note, they claim they wanted the kids to stay, which they would have a right to do. I don't know more details on that though. Definitely tons of US citizens detained. There was that dad with DACA status that was legally here that made the mistake of visiting family in Mexico and he got deported back before finally getting it cleared and getting back home a few weeks later. Heck, might have been under Obama there was a citizen that was detained for almost four years before ICE finally stopped trying to find a way to deport him (if I remember correctly, he immigrated from somewhere with his mom and later became a citizen, but they were arguing his mom didn't have rights to bring him here, so he technically shouldn't be a citizen). So if that can happen pre-Trump, with administrations that were pro-immigrant, I'm guessing the rhetoric of a non-lucid old man that cheats at golf and spouts that he wants to find a way to deport actual citizens might be the reason there is a lot of concern.

I'm on your side that they are illegal immigrants. There is a full spectrum on this board on how to deal with that, ranging from invite more to come to deport them without even bothering to let anyone know we scooped them off of the street. Speaking on behalf of others, without their consent, my guess is most are along the lines that they are already here, mostly good people trying to make a living, and unless they do something additional to warrant deportation, give them a path to citizenship. Where the push back from most of the people on this board, including myself, is how far the pendulum swung from an administration that seemingly invited folks to come in (I know some will reject that statement) to the current administration that is fine diverting money away from tracking down tax cheats, white collar criminals, and even many of your basic governmental services in order to find people that are trying to become citizens and abiding by the rest of our laws. Additionally, when we see legitimate stories about actual citizens or others here legally that are detained (even deported) for days, even weeks at a time, it doesn't make me feel confident that this administration cares about making mistakes as long as the deportation numbers look 'bigly'. If you lean towards the conservative side and hated voting for Kamala (just like me), I would expect you to hate the idea of the government detaining/deporting citizens because of their incompetence.

I have no issue not citing sources, especially if you think it's common knowledge. But getting mad because someone requests a source and telling them to find it?!?! As Biden would say "C'mon man".
-
Galaga, you're not entirely wrong that many of the reports have been blown out of proportion, but if the base of your party makes fun of 'face diapers', but celebrate and defend when their law enforcement is wearing masks, maybe you should reassess your position.

Gavin has been hilarious all week. I hate the idea off what he’s calling for in California to combat Texas, but it’s clear his gloves are off and he’s willing to fight any style Trump wants to go with.

Rumors are he had to OK any decision with Bessent and he didn't like it. Bessent was the one that put him in the position as well. Guessing Bessent just wanted a puppet.

https://archive.ph/YrFmr#selection-1705.137-1725.287 I know I'm in the minority, but I think it would be good for Ukraine to stop this war, even if they lose land. They just upped their conscription age to 60 years old. I'm not even 50 and what a joke it would be to put me in combat. Still, it's too late and Trump can't force Zelensky to abide by a deal he makes with Putin. Guess you could argue that our mineral rights deal would help protect, but that's overhyped crap from Trump already. He probably believes those numbers, but once he finds out its not panning out like he was told, there is nothing preventing Trump from tossing it away. Still, it might give Zelensky and Europe a few years to regroup.

The other part Todd mentioned, and I do agree with, is ultimately everyone is looking for the next big scandal that can bring Trump down and he doesn't think even this Epstein stuff can do that, which I'm all for keeping up the heat on him over Epstein, but probably think Todd is right. What he did say and this was right as he was asked about BLS and how can we trust any numbers out of them, is that it really doesn't matter what the numbers say for your average person. Time has proven again and again that if your average American has trouble paying bills, it doesn't matter what the stock market or economist are saying, they will revolt.

Looks like Southpark is going to find a way to get Trump's tiny weiner in every episode! How they portrayed Vance was fantastic.

I spend most of my day trying to find a way to clean up data and you're not wrong (although I would offer pause on the less accurate data), even small changes to our process requires various verification checks making it a tedious project. But overall, compared to reports that were auto generated once a day and then had to be processed by a person and moved to another system, just for another report to be generated for the next day, so on and so forth... it's been worth it to my company to find better ways to get data to a useful endpoint quicker. In doing this, we've found different ways to spot patterns in near real time, instead of finding the patterns in hindsight when upper mgmt wants to know what changed a couple of months down the line and we've had to go back and do an analysis. Overall my point on this BLS stuff though is Trump didn't like the numbers and used the revisions as 'proof' the numbers were cooked. Yet his own demands to cut federal spending appears to have shut down efforts by BLS to improve on their ability to give more timely and accurate reports to the administration.
-
They were giving examples of the steps that data goes through from the Survey until it hits the Jobs report or the revision and how it could be automated to provide real time data right to the BLS commish.

Still very leery of AI generated reports regarding news, but I was listening a podcast talking about the BLS numbers, in which they agreed that it's ridiculous that in 2025, that wide swing of numbers can be discovered in a revision. Point being that BLS has some antiquated systems in place to obtain these numbers. And with that, here's Google Gemini talking DOGE: Based on recent news reports, it appears that Howard Lutnick, the current Secretary of Commerce, has taken actions that have impacted efforts to modernize and improve the reliability of government economic data, including some that were relevant to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Specifically: Disbanding Advisory Committees: Lutnick disbanded two expert committees, including the Federal Economic Statistics Advisory Committee (FESAC), which advised on economic statistics, including those related to inflation, employment, and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Concerns over Data Quality: Reports suggest that the disbandment of these committees, combined with previously existing budget cuts at the BLS, could negatively affect the accuracy and quality of future economic data. Criticism of Economic Metrics: Lutnick has also floated the idea of changing how GDP is calculated, suggesting the exclusion of government spending, which has raised concerns about potential political interference with official data. While the exact nature of any specific "project to modernize BLS numbers" that may have been canceled or impacted is not detailed in the provided search results, Lutnick's actions with the advisory committees and public comments on data collection have raised concerns about the future of such modernization efforts and the independence of economic data gathering at the BLS.

If you look at my posts, you'll find me rooting on the Cheney/Kinzinger's and hoping for more folks that will push back and attempt to make that party better, rather then just falling in line. The left wants people on the right to 'stand up for their principles' and 'speak their truth' if it's against the republican party, but when folks like El-Sayed have a major concern with the democratic party, 'shut the f up and get back in line'. If we got Biden, you actually believe there is any difference in terms of Gaza right now? El-Sayed didn't tihnk so and he spoke up. He apparently got enough assurances and endorsed Kamala. Honestly, forcing Kamala to defend her position on Gaza to El-Sayed in a stronger fashion might have actually helped her more. The fact that El-Sayed caved might have cost her Michigan (didn't matter, she still would have fallen way short).
-
That's the democratic party that I've grown to love (slash hate). Unless you shut the hell up and fall in line, you are not good enough to be a democrat worthy of our vote, not then, not now, not ever. Having any disagreement with your party only helps your opponent. Meanwhile when the opposing party falls in line to their parties leader, make sure to point out that's a fascist theme.

Exactly, remember back to the Drew and Mike days (for the Detroit area folks)? It was a big deal that they got to come back for a week after it was announced the show was over and in hind sight, half of the folks already agreed to jump over to the new sports radio station the company was launching. At the time though, that wasn't known and it was kind of shocking they were allowed to come on the air and say goodbyes. If CBS really was trying to shut Colbert up, they could have done it a lot easier, and like you say chasfh, they could have probably saved some money too. I get Trump sucks, but not every bad (or good) decision being made by a corporation is because of him.
-
Colbert was contracted out for 9 months, guessing most of the senior folks on the staff are on contract too, so cutting it immediately may not have really saved them a ton of money. But again, if the late show is still valuable to them and they simply wanted to please Trump to get rid of Colbert, you get rid of Colbert immediately and you find a replacement for the supposed lucrative late night slot.

I'm bouncing between MCS and Edman's thought process here. I definitely would have loved to add at least 1 lights out reliever, for whatever reason that didn't happen. Harris definitely didn't stand pat though. Outside of Skubal, every position on this team is upgradable, yet there weren't that many clear upgrades that appeared to be on the block. We have some depth, let's hope we get and stay healthy now.
-
This Colbert thing makes about as much sense as the WNBA players demanding NBA salaries. 40 million dollar loss is bull****? Because sources state that if they continued it past it's current contract, it may have lost around 40 million dollars a year, but it only lost probably 25-28 million this year, so the excuse that it was losing money is not fair?!?!?! If it was about Colbert and Colbert only 1) they send him packing immediately and pay out the rest of his contract and 2) they announce a new (cheaper) person to replace him. They immediately came out and said there would be no show going forward.

I feel like our lineup would welcome a 'maddeningly inconsistent' .900 OPS guy. Granted, I feel our defense is a bigger reason for our 1st place position then just about anything else, and we'd take a hit there.

He doesn't need the money and it's worth to Bezos is far beyond what someone would be willing to pay. The hope is, once Trump is gone, it's use will drop to nothing. Rather it's restored or just curls up and dies at that point is probably the real question.
