I'm sure my view of Peds was vastly different than a nurse/doctor. Mom/Dad almost never left and often just cleaned up after themselves so I wasn't in those rooms with patients often. They had a big play area and the kids that were feeling alright and able to be around others were out there having fun. ER was hit and miss. A bad car accident and you see a guy rushed past you and into Trauma 1 and you'd take one look at assume they weren't going to make it. There were a few that were real serious that I remember and while I wasn't in the room, I've heard them work. Sucked cleaning a room after they were moved to the morgue. Nurses were responsible to clean up bio-waste, but if it was bad, I'd still have a little to clean up and you knew what just happened. But the euphoria that was shared by the entire ER if they were able to stabilize a very serious case was a great feeling.

https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2021/12/31/michigan-update-covid-19-quarantine-guidelines-follow-cdc/9062458002/ I want to make a comment like i'm glad to see Whitmer following science again, but admittedly, that would be a troll move. (Not below me mind you). But instead, I will give a criticism that I actually think is not only legitimate, but somewhat ironic. So Michigan doesn't follow CDC guidelines saying they need to know more. The statement from the State indicates they are satisfied now, but they don't give any details on what information helped changed their decision. So Delta buy off Whitmer too?

Right out of high school I worked as a housekeeper at a hospital. Occasionally if someone was on vacation i'd get put on a regular's job for a week. Surgical wing was great, you'd see folks right after a surgery and some looked horrible, within a few days they are talking/laughing and heading home. The cancer wing, oh man, watching a person in one week go from talking and being in good spirits despite some issues to family members whispering about next steps is brutal. Couldn't understand how nurses would chose to stay on those floors.

I don't want to get into a pissing match about who has the toughest job, especially when I know for sure mine isn't one of them. That said, imagine being such a manly man that lifts large objects for 12 hours a day, probably 7 days a week, 365 days a yearx, but a piece of cloth, which you openly mock as doing nothing when it fits your narrative, apparently is that extra physical issue that prevents you from doing your job.

Oh believe me, it did. And i'm not a fan of democrats.

History has shown that population immunity has always worked. It happened to kill a larger percentage of the population, but it worked. Damn kids wanting to change everything. Next thing you know my kids are going to be pushing for me to buy a toaster when building a fire every morning and flipping the toast on a stick has always worked in the past. Plus, how are you going to know if it's starting to burn if you don't even have eyes on it. Stupid kids.

Yeah, fuck Trump and his Project Warp Speed, just another failure on his belt, amirite?

I work from home, so prior to this week the longest I wore a mask was about 5 hours (entering airport, flying to Seattle, leaving airport, then back again). My wife spent last night in the hospital due to an allergic reaction (and i'm sure I have covid now from being in the ER, like 100% sure!). I had a mask on from roughly 9am yesterday until 8am this morning when I went home to shower/change. Just sat/slept, still horrible. I give props to anyone that has to wear a mask for an entire shift, especially if they are on their feet/moving/physical.

My mom did this with us in the 80's. I'd argue it wasn't moronic, as at the time, the medical community endorsed it. It was a well known disease and it was well known that catching it younger was better, and having it later in life was much more severe. We have a vax for that now, so it's changed. If onmicron is much less severe for all and gives me more antibodies to deal with the next variant, I want it too. Long term we don't know as much about this though, so while i'm triple vaxed and not as cautious as I used to be, I'm still going to try and avoid it as long as possible.

Absolutely true. And i'm not saying the CDC is beyond reproach. As i've said before, this virus has proved everyone wrong at one point or another, including the CDC. All i'm saying in regards to this specific issue is when members of a conservative party we have in the US have claimed the CDC is wrong or disagreed with a policy, members of a liberal party we have, have consistently defended them, with statements like, quoting a smart person I know (to be clear, there is no sarcasm in this statement) "Science can only tell you what the likely outcomes will be". I'd be hard-pressed to believe that the CDC has made this decision without some science to back it up, even if there was a political component that helped sway it as well.

The rest of us can't go on with our lives until nearly all are comfortable with going on with our lives. So maybe instead of telling everyone to get over it, maybe ask some folks what they need from you to help them get over it.

I'm not trying to perform any pretzel logic. Many folks felt the CDC wasn't acting in the best interest of their stated purpose in order to scare folks and hurt the economy. Now many folks appear to feel the CDC isn't acting in the best interest of their stated purpose in order to appease lobbyist/big business. In the first case, you joined me in shaking your head and wondering why those doubters weren't giving the CDC the benefit of the doubt. Now you're confused why I'm shaking my head at these new folks, that's some pretzel logic I can't wrap my head around.

https://www.michigan.gov/coronavirus/ 2 day average smashes previously 1 day high. Somewhat hoping some of these are an accumulation of test results that came in late due to the holiday, but if not, we're heading back in the wrong direction after no reprieve.
-
Yup, my wife wouldn't allow me if I wanted to anymore.
-
I agree with you that I believe the left feels like lobbyists influenced the decision. I don't believe that the CDC was pressured by Delta/lobbyists into making that decision against their will, which you seem to be open to that idea as well when you say 'regardless of the truth, they should be out providing rationale'. Then, I pointed to the fact that if you don't agree with it, it looks a little sketchy and you're open to the idea of allowing the CDC to explain further. But if you do agree with it and others don't, wow, what a bunch of anti-science assholes.
-
yeah, i'm sure it's something else that would explain the flip by so many 'science followers' to get mad at the CDC.
-
I don't disagree with you, but I'm laughing a bit as there have been things the right hasn't gone along with the CDC on and instead of the rationale that the CDC should explain themselves it was just chalked up as the looney right ignoring science. Now that it doesn't go along with the narrative the left has been sold, well obviously they just need to explain it better. To be fair to the CDC, i'm sure Delta was not the only one asking, just the one publicly asking at a time where the media cares about air travel (holidays) and the CDC made the decision. My brother (health care facility administration) mentioned that he's seen a push from health care facilities on this for awhile to help get nurses back to work. Apparently quite a few studies have shown for awhile that the asymptomatic transmission happens in early onset and subsides quickly. I personally never heard this and I'm only taking his word for it as I'm confident (hopefully rightly) that the CDC isn't just bending to pressure.

I'd caution against this statement. Maybe word it more specifically, like 1st generation of mRNA vaccine efficacy may wear down or not be as effective against later strains of Covid. Up until seeing these numbers, the indication I had seen is that the mRNA was still effective against serious illness/hospitalization from this illness.
-
The stats from Delta regarding efficacy likely meant no herd immunity level for that one either. Add in the fact there was never a serious push to actually reach herd immunity for the world and we are where we are. Over time, it was expected to weaken. The 'what if' was always what if it had a much more severe version prior getting to that point. With the preliminary info on Omnicron, Delta might have been that 'what if' variant and it wasn't as bad as it could have been. In terms of admissions, i'd be interested in age/weight breakdown. Still, that's a crazy high admission rate for vaxxed.

Most times I would only take 1 or 2 pills before dumping the rest in the toilet, if I took any at all. It dulled the pain a bit for me, but made my stomach upset. Can't remember what it was, but I was in a lot of pain and for a few days I used them and they worked well, than it felt like I only ate cheese for a week and had to deal with that fallout (or lack thereof rather).

I'm certainly no expert, but a broken arm/knee surgery probably would the times you would want an opiate. My father in law had a bad knee, but instead of having surgery right away, the doctor was all to willing to keep giving out Vicodin. He was probably on it 2-3 years. He wasn't doing anything illegal, just asking for them. He was lucky enough to realize there was a problem and cut himself off. That was probably more physically taxing for him than the knee pain ever was.

Monday’s Bullwark was a guy that has specialized in making movies more marketable in China. Much of it was stuff I think most on this site are aware of with China, but some specific examples made for an interesting podcast.

I talked Covid with my long term care / rehab center working brother and he mentioned they get fined 65k for every patient that develops Covid while they are there. Technically the state has to prove they got it from a staff member, but they are a bigger facility and the only question the state asks is "has any employee tested positive in the last two weeks'. If the answer is yes, they are fined and they also get some other mark against them that affects their rating and can impact federal payments. Apparently it's a federal agency that set it up, but it's up to the State to enforce and Michigan has chosen to follow with the above procedure. Mind you, they can only enforce mask mandate in the common areas. They aren't allowed to force testing, even on their own dime, and once family is in the room with a patient, they are allowed to unmask if they are vaccinated, but they aren't allowed to demand proof. All visiting limitations were completely removed by the feds as we were heading up in our current spike as well. Oh joy! Fast forward to today and my wife woke up with a rash all over her body. Doctor office tells her to get a Covid tests before they'll let her come in or go to the emergency room. Looked around the house as I knew I had a few, but with company/family in town, we moved everything and the kids helped. Finally decide to run up to the store, none at Walgreens, try CVS, none there either. Wife ended up going to the hospital. They don't get her a covid test and diagnose her with an allergic reaction, but want her to follow up with her doc. Tonight I searched again and found a test so now she can see her doctor tomorrow, but this crap is ridiculous. Luckily I have insurance that covers most of the emergency bill and I can afford my 200 dollar copay. Many people can't though.

97.1 was talking about football players as they head into january 1st. You can be damn sure they need to be dying from Covid before they call the team doc up and let them know they have symptoms. They want to play and even moreso, they don't want to be the reason themselves and those in close contact with them don't have to go into Covid protocol and risk missing the game too.

I'm not going to say you're wrong, but there are some legitimate complaints from the anti-vaxxer side which IMO, 'science' hasn't clearly dictated how we should react either or at least shown the side that touts 'science' doesn't necessarily have a great grasp of everything either. There was a recent poll where roughly 40% of democrats polled believed that 50% of unvaccinated folks that got Covid would need hospitalization. I guess creating fear helps drive up vaccination rates, but in turn i'm sure it hurts in other factors associated with our society and certainly leads to more hostility/division. Just Christmas day, my aunt/uncle that tout 'science' and decry the Trump voters in my family showed up at my Grandma's. Their daughter usually hosts Christmas, but didn't want people together due to Covid. My aunt was wearing a mask. I know she's vaccinated/boosted, but just figured she was playing it cautious. I don't feel the need at this point, but i'll respect it from anyone that choses to do so. Soon after they got up to leave and she mentions to my brother and I how she just hasn't felt good since the day before, headache, runny nose, sore throat, and occasional cough. Are you freaking kidding me? It was at least a KN-95 mask, but seriously, wtf? If Grandma gets Covid soon after Christmas, I'm sure they'll be the first to blame my mom or uncle (Trump voters and both vaccinated (which i'm guessing she doubts)).
