LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
Tigermojo replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
The owners keep trying to add something new every time. "I guess we could add more money for that but you have to wash our cars every weekend." Where did that come from? If that's something you wanted, why wasn't it in the discussion from the very beginning? It looked like things could have been settled by now if they didn't keep trying to add something which hasn't been discussed. Then the players have to take time for all of them to get on the same page for the new item. I thought they were close but the owners keep changing the fine print and that is very shady on their part.- 1,851 replies

Reading about each side's current position doesn't seem that far off. Both sides have made some concessions. Both sides are trying to add things they have never had before. I think it would be smart to be conservative with those ideas and they can easily drop some of those proposals or set them up on a trial basis year by year. They don't have to be part of the five year deal.- 1,851 replies

They have some good young players on the 26 man roster who are controlled for five or six more years. I think they'll be ok.

One thing not being factored into to this discussion is injuries. The Tigers invested a significant amount of money into Zimmerman for example and received nothing in return. Should teams who try to be competitive but lose multiple starters to injuries be punished?- 1,851 replies

Owners looking desperate scheduling a counter proposal the next day. What happened to playing it cool by locking them out for 7 weeks? Players have the power in the relationship now.- 1,851 replies

Players are making a proposal currently. I think both sides are too far apart for the season not to be impacted at this point.- 1,851 replies

They had meetings twice in December regarding issues not related to economics. No meetings have been scheduled since then.

Best shape of his life and he's working on a new change up.

I'm very happy with Baez. I think his overall game will fit well with this team. Durability is important and Baez has been durable. I would have been happy with Correa as well, maybe not as happy five years from now when Correa has five years left and Baez has one. Someone will pay Correa what he wants. They will market him as a star player and make plenty of money compared to what his contract will cost. The difference between the two is payroll flexibility. The Tigers can potentially add another player.

Still a lot of question marks on this team but huge upside with all the young players as well. We'll probably see some busts but others could step up. I think the lineup will be ok. They will not crush the ball all over the place but they'll play solid defense with good baserunning. The problem will be injuries. They still don't have much depth past the top 26. I'd really like another starter and a couple guys for the bullpen. I'd prefer they do it now than trade away talent in July.

They made some improvements to their running game with Hinch last season and I think they can be even better in that department next year. Maybe near the top of the league in baserunning. That really disrupts the opposing team.
