Things didn't go bad at the trade deadline. Things went bad when Riley Greene got hurt. Whenever they have lost Carpenter, Tork and/or Greene, the lineup has become much easier for opponents to navigate. That's why they need to add a couple more good bats, especially since Carpenter and Greene have dealt with injuries and Tork's lack of performance. Keith and Malloy were feasting on pitching with Greene hitting behind them. They have guys who can get the job done but they need more threats in the lineup.

Emotions are high after the deadline and giving up nine runs. Chafin and Flaherty were big contributors but that's why I said add a starter and closer. Overall their staff has been middle of the pack this year.

I don't think we're going to see a complete overhaul. They have over 20 pitchers on the 40 man roster. I could see signing a starter and a closer and then the best 11 other guys make the team.

A competitive team wouldn't have the amount of question marks the Tigers did entering this season. They answered a lot of questions on players this year and still have time to answer more. Then we'll see what happens in the offseason. Does Harris add proven players or not? We have a pretty good idea about most of these guys at this point. I'm sure there will be some of them being evaluated next year but the majority will be expected to perform. I think it's time to compete next year or Harris should have traded Skubal.

I'd like to see Jung too but he's not rule 5 eligible until December 2025. There's going to be limited spots on the 40 man roster this winter so I doubt we'll see him. After Guenther and Hanifee were called up today, it looks like we'll see fringe guys getting opportunities. Guys who are minor league free agents if they're not on the roster. Not exciting, but Harris has been trying to retain people like this all season.

Hanifee has a 3.86 FIP and a 5.17 ERA at Toledo. 34 games and 47 IP.

Looked like he was squeezed in the first as well.

Jobe struggled with his command. 94 pitches with 55 strikes.

Jobe two earned runs but the defense has been awful. Shortstop lost a pop-up in the sun and the ball fell right in front of him. Catcher dropped a ball that hit his glove, runner advanced and he can't throw anybody out stealing second.

I wonder if they will call someone up to start. They have a bunch of guys who will be rule 5 eligible so I'm sure they are looking ahead to 40 man roster decisions.

Hinch will find a spot for anybody who can hit. He can find a spot for guys who can't hit at all.

Flaherty has been great but nobody is concerned about his back? Signing pitchers long term is scary enough with arm issues.

Easier said than done but instead of guys like Canha and Urshela, I'd like to see a player or two with real power. A good starter and closer would be great too.

I was critical of Harris last year and I can understand the sites that are critical this year but I'm happy with the trades he made. I would have preferred to just bring back Chafin but it's tough to pass up two good young arms for him. Harris keeps adding talent to the organization. I think the 40 man roster next year will be significantly improved over this year.
