  1. Playing games with hiding him on the roster defeats the purpose.  Either you DFA him or you make him a part of the team in some regard.  I vote for the latter, but in a reduced playing time scenario.  Let him retire as planned—we’ve gone this long, why sully the relationship at this point?  He retires as a Tiger on his own terms.  We have enough versatile position players, that we can carry a part-time DH.

Godspeed Kids... hope the org doesn't **** up your hitting abilities lol

it will be interesting to see where everyone plays and how often.  We already have Santana and Sequera at 2B/SS.  Wonder if Graham will see time at 3B and OF?

Whatever one thinks about Austin Bergner or Reese Olson or Wilmer Flores and how "real" they are or not, they are all guys we would likely see before we see Gipson-Long in the majors.

Olson has taken steps back, so I wouldn’t put him in with the other two, but agree with your general point.  Hurter looking good, too.

One of Scully's great skills (and Ernie's FTM) was he could translate excitement without shouting. He'd just pitch a little higher and that was all you needed to know the action had picked up. As good as Dickerson is, that would be my one critique - he shouts into the mic too often when the action is exciting.  Scully's approach was more artful for radio.

Probably just style or personality, but Dan might be more a product of our times.  Subtlety is certainly not in vogue these days.

The Avila regime has been taking a lot of heat lately for the failure of their past drafts and development efforts, so I can see them front-burnering promotions of multiple Pipeline-ranked prospects desperately seeking some win, any win on that front.

In that same vein, I also would not be surprised to see Sawyer Gipson-Long appear on the mound for the big club sometime before the end of the year.

Might be out of necessity at the rate we’re going through our young pitching.

Several comments from other media make note of the fact that Scully, for the most part, called games without a sidekick in the booth. One comment noted there were no “analysts” in the booth back in the day. I have seen other comments noting that Scully was comfortable with not filling the air constantly with conversation and/or talk during a game.
    Good points.

Big deal—I want to know what his record was in “Pick the Stick”

Avila has said repeatedly that one of his priorities was finding guys that strike out less and walk more. Like everything else with Al, it's not his objectives, it's his execution.

Tork, Keith and Jung reflect this. Maybe Greene, too.

honestly, this was the only reason I was bullish on Paredes for so long.

Don't we have enough low OPS guys already?

that was more of a general comment, not specific to Marsh.  Agree, he's a bad fit--K's over 30%, too.

Our issue is that we can't be sellers because our only tradable assets are relievers, which we're seeing over the last few days, are a commodity in the league.  We can't be buyers because we don't have the prospect capital that others teams do (which is criminal given where we've drafted the last few years).  Even if we wanted to flip our recent 1st rounders, how much value would Mize, Tork and Jobe have?

  9. Still a lot of time left, and teams always need more bullpen pieces.  However, the closer we get to the deadline, the less leverage we have trying to get any value for Fulmer.

We’re not privy, but you have to wonder if Avila gets too aggressive with his ask, that teams just look elsewhere.

My own guess is that the two best suitors for both Chafin and Fulmer are the Mets and Blue Jays respectively, both of whom are angling for players on the Cubs (Ian Happ, Willson Contreras) who in theory could be packaged with relievers as well.

One would hope that there would be movement whenever that unwinds, but it's still unsettling that theoretically both teams could resolve their needs without availing themselves of the Tigers BP options. Which could be used as yet another piece of evidence of Al getting played.

    Maybe the Yankees, too?

Adinso Reyes promoted to Lakeland. I have a feeling this is one of many promotions today.

Sounds like the draftees (position players) will get assignments this weekend. Will be interesting with all of the middle infielders—wonder if they’ll challenge Pacheco at WM?  I don’t think Santana or Sequera look ready yet.

  12. Grossman trade is addition through subtraction—more AB’s for Greene, Baddoo, and possibly Cameron.  3 guys who could have a future vs one that had zero.

It’s  a shame that Grossman fell off so sharply this year—easy to forget his contributions last season.  Hope he can turn things around with the Braves.
