willIam clay ford was ignorant as to how to run a successful business. he never ran anything in his life and was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. he was loyal because he didnt have a clue as to how to run a successful organization.
chris illitch has shown no signs of being able to run a sports team. sure, his dad wasnt the best in the beginning, but did hire devellano and then dd for the tigers after initial missteps. chris lucked into steve yzerman and promoted avila and watched him fail and did nothing.
The joke around William Clay Ford was that he was the Fredo of the Ford family. Instead of sending him to Vegas so that he wouldn’t mess up the family business, they gave him the Lions to run. If he was held in high regard, he would have been more involved with Ford Motor Company

Sure looks like Soto to the cardinals is gonna happen.
Good landing spot for him—a well run franchise that seems to always be in contention with a steady flow of young prospects.

I’ve read the Cardinals are in the mix for Juan Soto—I don’t see any team that is interested in him (or Ohtani for that matter), trading any prospects until this gets resolved.

Would anyone trade Skuball for Joe Adell or is he a bust ? Or Marsh ?
I wouldn’t for either, but maybe as part of a package. Angels are a mess right now—with Trout’s health uncertainty, Rendon’s decline and Ohtani potentially getting traded before his free agency, will be interesting how they proceed. Without that uncertainty, Skubal would have made a ton of sense for them.

Over/Under 3.5 relievers traded?
I’ think it will be two—Fulmer and Chafin.

McKinstry would fit in well with the Castros.
I’ve read that the WB is optioning The Castro’s as a mid season replacement next year. Will also feature their wacky cousin, Starlin, in a recurring role.

This would be dumb on their part. Get the best prospects you can. You want a consistent pipeline on into the future. The idea of bunching prospects on the same timeline is an illusion.
Perhaps, but I’d just rather hold on to Skubal if we can’t immediately address our lineup.

Does the Luis Castillo deal change any perspectives on Skubal or the idea of it?
I would still keep him, and the Reds and Tigers situations aren't exactly parallel anyway, but while I dont think he would command the same haul that Castillo did because of how established Castillo is, I'm even more sure that he'd bring back a haul if he were to move. (At least for a competent GM anyway lol)
He might have similar perceived value, as he’s LH with more years of control, but I don’t think we would be pursuing prospects that are 2-3 years away from contributing. Teams would need to be willing to give up AA/AAA/majors players, which might be more of an issue to any potential buyers. Clearly, the Reds are embracing a rebuild and are OK with getting more talent that will take longer to develop.

Soto passes his test. 4-2 W.
Do the Jays bring one of our BP guys over before the end of the weekend?
Not Chafin 😄

Max Castillo pitching with Kirk behind the plate, makes for the most 40 and-over —looking softball tandem.

Dylan Smith (Lakeland) and Joey Wentz (WM) with successful two inning rehab starts tonight. Brant Hurter came in to relieve Wentz and was again very good.

It's the right thing to do, but he's been so solid these past few months. Even in his last outing he wasn't bad.
He might have the most trade value—controllable through next season, so more valuable than a 2 month rental. High K rate, too. And he’s vaxxed!

Joe might have sealed his fate as an ex-Tiger.

I'd be more interested in a change of scenery trade with the Yank-me's, sending either Fulmer or Chafin and Derek Hill for Florial and Andujar. Either pitcher upgrades the Yank's pen, and Hill could either be OF insurance, or a more useful Terence Gore-type in September and potentially during the postseason.
Given the challenges every team will encounter with their 40-man roster management (compounded by no Rule 5 this past offseason), teams might be willing to move more players they know they'll won't be able to protect, which could provide some opportunities for sellers, like the Tigers, to audition players (i.e, Florial/Andujar) for the remainder of the season before having to make 40-man decisions, pre-Rule 5.

A change of scenery trade with the Yankees—Fulmer (or Chafin) and D. Hill for Florial and Andujar?
Coolbaugh can get those guys on track, I’m sure.

Andujar is a high-risk, lottery ticket at this point. He hasn’t been good since 2018. At most, I’d move Fulmer and someone like Workman, Cabrera or Packard for him.

Clearly he believes he can do better than 20th round in a few years.
Or wants to avoid getting the TJ that seems to like our young pitchers .

The guy advocating for Skubal to be traded and who appears to have invented the "AJ Opt-Out" myth appears excited by Daniel Norris being back for some reason....
Hate to pick on the guy, but he's losing it.
He hasn’t had it for a while. He epitomizes clickbait, but he’s really just struggling to stay relevant at any cost. Best to just ignore him and avoid getting sucked in. Nothing good will come from it.

Mike Schmidt's early career (not suggesting Tork will be a HOF'er, but that even some of the greats struggled):

Gallo is on a one year deal. Maybe if the Yankees wanted a team to assume most/all of his salary for 2022 and that sweetened the return you'd get back in a reliever deal it would make sense, but outside of that, it would be pretty pointless to take him on.
It seems likelier they just DFA him after the deadline, but maybe I'm wrong.
Agree—you only take him in a salary dump where the Yankees add a nice prospect to the deal.

He and Carpenter both with pretty dramatic recent reductions in K rate also. SSS anomaly, or something in the water in Toledo?
Kreidler experienced the same last year after he was promoted to AAA.

I think his sister is the only with business savvy. One is a musician and another is a Fredo. Not sure about the others, but it appears Chris is the most competent.
