  1. A positive outcome of this drive would be to let the defense rest through the half.
  2. Truly unique, though. Not sure who a comp for him would be.
  3. I think the Tigers are being prudent, waiting out players whose price might drop. I also think they don’t want to block young players, like Jung. They need either a RH bat that can play either OF or 3B, with Vierling filling in the other spot. And 1B insurance for Tork. Ideal acquisition is a 1B/3B that hits RH. Frees up Vierling for the OF, where he can fill in in any spot.
  4. Ok, who do you all think we won’t sign today?
  5. Stocking up on guys to be Fetterized. Hopefully one or two pay off.
  6. If true, time to capitalize.
  7. RH bat options (via free agency) are starting to dwindle. The expensive guys are still there, though (Bregman and Alonzo). Maybe a trade is still possible, or do we pivot and try and solve our RH power bat via the OF (Teoscar or Santander)?
  8. Very few players will ever be replicated. He and Ted Williams. Short list.
  9. He was on mine. Checked every box. Let’s go get Santana now.
  10. These are good and valid points. And I’m not suggesting that Ilitch has been cheap at all, because I think that’s false. However, I do think he takes a measured, businesslike approach, unlike his Dad who led with his emotions and was as much of a fan of the team as the owner. And his actions reflected that. Ishbia strikes me the same way—local billionaire that would throw money at a problem, salary tax be damned. And now he is in the mix for the Twins. One advantage we always had over them was payroll.
  11. Thanks, killer of dreams
  12. Speaking of rolling the dice, anyone think Jose Abreu can be salvaged?
  13. Rumor mill in Bham is that Chris Ilitch is getting a divorce. Let’s hope he has to sell the team—Mat Ishbia would be a great owner (if he doesn’t buy the Twins first)
  14. I do think they’ll bring in veteran insurance, but are also hedging by having Keith and Malloy get reps there.
  15. We have a home at the Homestead Resort (in nearby Glen Arbor) and Michigan license plates are now about 50%—tons of Illinois and Indiana plates, but now starting to see Pennsylvania and New York, too. Our little secret up in Leelanau County is becoming more well known.
  16. Agree—can understand wanting to avoid the commute, but don’t base it on the offseason. We still have a foundation of a playoff team that was largely populated by rookies, who should only get better. And it’s not like the rest of the AL has improved much (yet). Most of the free agents and trade targets are still out there.
  17. Want to make baseball more appealing? We need more Morganna’s running on the field, kissing batters.
  18. I think some contending teams are willing to assume that risk if they think they have an immediate window. Skubal is arguably the best SP in MLB right now and could change or ensure a team’s fortune.
  19. Some ‘84 Tigers fun for the locals.
  20. I can’t tell if he’s goofing and it’s just a bit or he’s the internets biggest idiot.
  21. It would be part of a long term contract, like Gehringer more articulately conveyed.
  22. He had an outstanding season at age 23 in AA. Might be a case of a guy who took some time to develop (he was also a COVID kid). Still, was probably worth the risk of getting selected. And likely he doesn’t make it through the season with the Cubs, who appear to be trying to be a contender. I’d like to get him back, but won’t lose any sleep over it.
  23. The advantage we have is that we could extend him now and pay him $30M per season for his two remaining arb years—he wouldn’t get anything close to that going to arbitration. And if he has another serious injury over the next two seasons, he may never get paid. Just comes down to how much risk he wants to assume.
