I'd personally be happy with Jung or Crawford if we go down the HS bat route.

Would be nice to draft a hitter that doesn’t have “swing and miss” issues.  How about someone who walks as much as they K (or close)?

i mean, it was for nick quintana, another great al avila second round pick who is now 24 in A ball.

heck, as bad as barnhart has been, that might be one of avila's better trades!

Agree we didn’t give anything up, but doesn’t excuse the fact that he has sucked.  We could have pursued someone else that might have been a better contributor.

We got him for a player who we all feel has almost no shot of even making it to the majors.   he was not even in our Top 30 prospects, was he?     Nick Quintana is Still in A ball at 24 and he's hitting .240 with 5 HR in 200 AB.........with 49Ks.      That should have been a sign for what Cincy thought of him.

We believe the hype because we want to.    Like believing Craig Paquette was gonna be good or the amazing pitching prowess of Jose Paniagua

That's what Al is........he's like Randy Smith talking up scrub players.

Don’t get me started on Jermaine Clark and Travis Chapman.  Thought we had solved our infield woes with both.

do we know if the wife and kids in the US or are they in Venezuela? If ERod left the country it's easy to imagine the situation extending.

good question.  certainly could present some complications if out of the country.  I wonder at what point the Tigers would void his contract, if they are able?  Certainly would not put them in a very good light, but everyone already thinks the front office is inept, so probably would not do much more damage.  In reality, this season is sunk, so getting him back this year doesn't really matter much, except that we have a lot of starters out and could have used someone eating some innings.  If he's back and ready to go in 2023, that would be wonderful.

btw, anyone read the Ken Rosenthal piece in the Athletic today?  Took the Tiger's front office to task--not a good look for Al.

Same with the ERod signing as well btw, since I've seen  people call him Jordan Zimmermann from practically his first start.

I haven’t seen that.  For me, the only comparison is that they were both long term deals that didn’t/haven’t panned out (yet for ERod).

Zimmerman was a much riskier signing.  Hopefully ERod returns and his personal situation doesn’t become a distraction for him when he does. I would not be surprised to see him sit out the balance of this season.

You don't want to read too much into a waiver claim, but my first reaction to them claiming Sanchez was that it may speak to how the organization feels about Barnhart going forward.

I don't know that he's a major league starter, but I doubt he's a guy that is stuck on a AAA roster for the next three years.

I think he’s in the mix as Jake Rogers backup next year.

where did Ali Sanchez come from? ..... waived by StL AAA on the 18th.

Policelli looks like he will vie for the Shane Halter award if he ever makes the majors. Has already played pretty much everywhere.

I think Policelli is the heir apparent to Haase, who I suspect will not be a Tiger beyond this year.

  8. I hope I’m proven wrong, but I don’t have a lot of confidence in Akko being a major contributor.  He seems very raw and undisciplined in all aspects of his game.  He is young and relatively inexperienced (rushed to the majors last year), but for me, anything we get from him is a plus. I have him behind Cameron and Hill.

Yeah hard to imagine another team picking up Hutch and even if they do its not like it will be a major loss.

2nd time for him this season.  I believe he could elect to be a free agent.  He didn’t last time.

What is the rotation now? Skubal, Faedo, Brieske, Alexander and Garcia?

How badly will this board melt down when Al drafts Porter?

My issue with him is 12th seems too high.  His value is in that he is one of the top starters still standing.  Without all of the other pitcher injuries, he would be pushed down the draft boards.

in all the scenarios in all the world, there is nothing as fragile as a high school right handed pitcher.

mayer was there for the taking and they doubled down on an 18 hear old's recent ability to spin a baseball and took jobe.  it was too risky for me.  we'll see how it goes.  i hope he's another verlander.

When should a RH pitcher be drafted?

These city connect uniforms are on balance pretty dreadful, and I hope the Tigers are the last team to get one.

I like the concept, and think a few have been well executed.  I’d like to see the Tigers lean into Motown and incorporate  “Hitsville”, though this current roster is not worthy of that moniker.

i'm worried about jobe.  not because of a small sample size at A ball, but because he's a high school right handed starting pitcher.

I don’t get that concern.  Would he be healthier if he went to college for a few seasons and then drafted?  Instead, he has the benefit of better coaching and concern for his arm health.

If your concern is not health related, but lack of a track record pitching against college hitters, that I understand.

I just wouldn’t read too much into his performance so far.  Manning had some bumps along the way and was able to work through them, without the benefit of having Fetter in the org, which Jobe has.
