Saw an interesting article in the Freep about Carpenter.  Robson was after to tweak his swing all last year.  Carpenter didn't want to do it, but tried a couple of adjustments in the offseason and eventually spent a few days with Robson's hitting coach.  The change in his swing seemed to result in a big power increase right away and its carried over into the season

ironic that I originally suggested that Carpenter and Robson should switch teams--probably not the outcome that Robson would embrace.

Peacock (NBC's streaming service) has a package of nationally televised games that utilize an early morning timeslot this season, so there's one of these per Sunday.

I'll be listening on the radio, because I'm not paying for Peacock lol

    Isn’t Peacock free?

Once we get closer to the draft I may get around to starting a thread about it if nobody else does but for now I figure I'd just post this in here. Kiley McDaniel of ESPN put out his 1st mock and he has us taking Jace Jung out of Texas Tech. Kiley has him listed as a 3B but MLB.com has him listed as a 2b, they also have him ranked 8th overall so getting him at 13 would be a slight steal.

Kiley speculates that where we are in our rebuild we probably want somebody closer to the majors especially since he took a HS pitcher in the first round last year and that is a big reason why he has us taking Jung.

I know you should draft for BPA, but there are also a slew of good hitting OFers who are being mocked to us, or adjacent to our pick.  Given the success we're seeing with Keith, Perez, Pacheco, and potential with our international guys (Santana and Sequeira), along with our long-term commitment to Baez, I wonder if they'll go OF, which all of a sudden seems a bit barren in our organization (both Cabrera and Packard have disappointed).

Roger Clemens is a douchebag.  When he played in Toronto he was meeting some friends at a high end public golf course and got into a physical altercation with the guy behind the counter in the pro shop who was insisting that Clemens pay the green fees, probably around $175 at the time.

Cut him some slack—was probably a ‘roid rage.

    WM wins a blowout - 8-0

    Colt Keith: 2 BB

Wenceel Perez: 3/4, HR(9), BB.  Wenceel's OPS at 894 over over 169 AB this season. Not bad for a middle IF. I would think he should be moved up pretty soon. I know they are high on Workman at Erie despite him not doing much with the bat, but Wenceel can play 2b so there should be AB to go around.

Seems like Wenceel has been around forever but he's still the same age as Workman.

Folks, I’m gonna need a ruling on Wenceel.  Only 22, so he’s not old for High A, and on pace for a 20-20 season.  Legit?

Sometimes when a guy is exceeding expectations you have to reward him.  Marcus Thames is an example, he destroyed AAA several years in a row but other than one season (during which he excelled) he was never given the opportunity to have a full time job with the Tigers.  Whatever groove Carpenter is in right now, see if he can hold it together at Toledo.

Toledo is a no-brainer.  Robson is getting steady AB’s.  Time to flip those two.

  7. Dickerson is the man and deserves to be mentioned alongside Ernie and Paul.

Jim Price is something else, though.  College kids have made a drinking game out of listening to him—take a shot every time he says “yellow hammer”

Exactly. I have no sympathy for anyone who has the twenty dollars to subscribe to MLB Audio and hack an audio overlay, yet still subjects themselves to Shep and Old Player instead and then comes in here and whines about how bad they are. What the hell do you expect, amirite.

I mean—I’m not saying stop. It’s entertaining to see posters whinge about things completely within their control. I’m just saying, come on, if you hate it so bad, take a little initiative here.

Can’t we listen to the radio and still bitch about the TV announcers?  What are the rules around here?

  9. If Peralta was stretched out, I’d like to see Brieske get sent down to Toledo after this game.  He needs to work on some things, which is probably easier against AAA hitters.  I still like his potential, which I think will be somewhere between Brian Moehler and Doug Fister.  Let’s hope it’s closer to the latter.  I suspect he goes down if/when Tyler Alexander or Michael Pineda are ready.

God damn that warrior mentality, trying to push through the pain and getting hurt worse because of it. Especially true for a guy who's going to get every chance to succeed.

He had a short outing a couple of days ago—that’s when he might have noticed it.  There’s no evidence that he has tried to pitch since.

  11. why are we even considering that either Mize or Manning might be a bust?  players get injured and often come back and can be productive.  Even if either requires a significant surgery, it's not a death sentence for their career.  Sure, it would be a setback and defer their contributions, but until we learn that they can't be productive contributors to a winning team, I'd encourage some healthy cautious optimism.

Meadows is the one I'm concerned with--I really hope whatever he's going through is temporary.  I was excited about adding him to the roster for at least the next couple of seasons.

The Padres signed a washed-up 39 year old Robinson Cano. So I think we could unload Schoop. Or start waiting for him to hit in June or July.

That’s the problem—we’ve endured his prolonged slump.  Now I want to benefit when he starts raking again.  Your point is valid, though, if you get tempted by another team near the deadline.  It didn’t happen last season.

Paredes with a 3 run bomb today. We gave up on him because he didn't have any power and kept Lugo around forever because of the "sound of the ball off his bat ". Diito Goodrum and Willie Castro.....

No, we gave up on him because he was blocked and had younger guys in the lower minors at his position.  But most importantly, we were able to upgrade our OF and lineup in Meadows.
