  1. Agree. His last name is literally a typo—really sloppy.
  2. I only listed those guys as examples. I agree that there are others more deserving of being cut, if necessary. But if pressed, Willi and Tyler are easily expendable. And please don’t start a response with “Ummm.” Comes off incredibly condescending (and we had made so much progress together lately).
  3. factoring in to these decisions around Tyler, Willi, Harold, etc... is less about their contributions, but instead that they are taking up a 40 man roster spot, making other prospects vulnerable in the Rule 5. Ultimately, we might end up picking up players of their ilk later on, but we should not put any prospects at risk for players who are easily replaceable.
  4. I think you get your wish—I believe players need to be added to the 40 man today, which might impact the Castro Bros and others. Will be interested in what they do with Tyler Alexander—he must be on the bubble.
  5. Age 28. 1,200 career AB’s. Wouldn’t take a walk. Adventures in the OF. 6’ 5” with no power. Time to move on.
  6. I could see him coming for what he believes is his last season, when options are more limited. Of course by then, hopefully, we might not have the need. Best case is a Kenny Rogers situation. But you’re right, all ties will be gone—Cabrera is the last connection.
  7. If I’m picking unsung ‘84 Tigers, I’m going with Rusty Kuntz, Rupert Jones, Johnny Grubb and Doug Bair.
  8. This is true. Would rather protect/select guys who will be longer term options.
  9. I’d like to see Harold return—LH bat who can play fill in many places. I like him as a pinch hitter. 150 AB’s. Not much more.
  10. Right. I’ll actually be concerned if we try and re-sign him, unless we’re concerned about our OF depth at Toledo.
  11. Agree. Just unsuccessfully.
  12. This. Here’s a more recent picture of Jeff:
  13. I could see Powers as Tigers GM—would be a promotion.
  14. I’m sure James Click wants a job similar to Scott Harris vs. working for him.
  15. Think you meant “two many castros…”
  16. And any chances that Hulu picks up their sitcom pilot, featuring the wacky hijinks of a couple of utility guys thrust into being full-time players.
  17. I can’t imagine we’re done clearing guys out. That means you, Castro Boys!
  18. I think with a lot of those QO’s, teams are willing to do an overpay for a season vs having to commit for multiple. And the compensatory picks are nice to have, too.
  19. Agree. I know he wanted the Dodgers last time. Angels could certainly use him.
  20. Probably. Just want them to be at least capable wherever they are playing. I suspect he’ll spend more time at 3B, given the organizational need.
  21. Was thinking more along the lines of his defense, once they settle on a position for him.
  22. A lot of talk, understandably, about sourcing player upgrades through trades and free agency. I’m also interested, though, in what Harris is going to implement to improve player development in both the minors and big league level. When you think of guys like Santana, Pacheco, Keith, Campos, Meadows, etc., can we see some of them take big strides and unlock some of their potential? Will he be making outside hires to address this?
  23. This is where we should take on a bad contract to get a better player and/or have to give up less in a deal.
  24. I'm encouraged to hear Harris say he's open to trading prospects--this is what a team in our situation should be looking at to accelerate our road to respectability. The period where we were dealing veterans went poorly--while that could be blamed on Avila, I think the rule that the team who gets the best player almost always wins the trade is valid. Given the fragility of young pitchers, I'd rather we look to move guys like Madden and Flores to try and get some lineup mainstays (i.e, the aforementioned Danny Jansen). Heck, even Jobe in the right deal. Instead of receiving Daz Cameron's and Isaac Paredes', let's move our equivalents to get players with a track record.
  25. hate to see Daz go, but it was the right call. guy needs a fresh start. I suppose more will go--we need to protect some guys, as well as save room for the Rule 5, free agent signings, etc...
