Agree—very bullish on him this season. Always had the hitting talent and is highly motivated to get his next contract. Better career numbers in Comerica than Bregman.
Even if we whiff on Bregman, I suspect that Harris likely has a Plan B to address 3B, likely via trade. Given how long this has dragged out, he’s had plenty of time to develop this.
I would be shocked to see Alex sign a short-term deal with us (or rely on an early opt-out). Boras and Co seem very analytical and would factor in his performance last season and career stats at Comerica and realize it would be risky for Bregman to improve his stock in Detroit for a better contract. Fenway or Wrigley would be more desirable to achieve that..
For next season, we are. Dingler still unproven (though optimistic) and we’re a Rogers injury from Brian Servan or Tomas Nido getting extensive playing time.
Much different situation from last season.
It was mentioned we’re thin at C—any interest in bringing Old Friend, James McCann, back as insurance.
He’s currently a free agent and had a solid season (by catcher standards) last year.
McCosky would cream his jeans
Half-joking—definitely not an ideal scenario. Wonder if we didn’t already have Baez if we would have reunited with Iglesias as the RH platoon with Sweeney, with the ability to play more if Trey ****s the bed.
Still have Leonard and Navigato in the system that could be plugged into SS, but I think they would punt on offense and put Kreidler in for his stellar D (and send out an APB for Zach Short).
I think Dingler will develop, but agree we are wafer-thin at C right now. None of the guys at Toledo look viable if needed for an extended period. You could make the case that Jake Rogers staying healthy is pretty critical to our success in ‘25.
A lot of money and effort for a guy who has not hit in Comerica in his career. The Astros are laughing—they got max value out of his arb years when he was at his best. Now he’s on the decline and wants to be rewarded for his best seasons past. There is a reason the Astros moved on from him quickly.
F him. Let him continue to decline with some other team.
I don’t understand all of the Mize hate. He was serviceable last season, coming off TJ and major back surgery. I do think his time could be running short, but I’m anxious to see how he does this season.
I would think so, especially since it’s not a long commitment. Nice to see a guy who wanted to be here come back. Makes the LA trade even better. Shades of Jim Slaton and the Brewers.
Also makes me wonder if one of our young SP could be dealt (Mize?) for a bat.
