  1. I think Cobb should also be considered a question mark, based on recent history. He’ll be in the rotation, if healthy, though.
  2. I think Jamie Moyer may have single-handedly skewed that data.
  3. He was way better than Sabathia (see above).
  4. He didn’t cheat or hurt anyone. He’s only guilty of having political views that are contrary to the baseball writers, which is egregious in evaluating his HOF credentials. I don’t personally like the guy, but that should have zero bearing.
  5. All of the ones that voted Sabathia in on first ballot should too. Another case of a likable player from a big market getting special consideration. He had 8 seasons with an ERA over 4.00.
  6. Why are we trading Hooker? What a luxury to have him continue to develop and be available as insurance.
  7. Sam Darnold says, “hold my beer”
  8. I’m bullish on Torres—he signed a one-year prove it deal. NY fans and press were rough on him and now he gets a fresh start.
  9. I think it’s Game 163 for me, since it was a single elimination game.
  10. I don’t buy that the Tigers are cheap. Free agents have been flawed the last few seasons and the few that aren’t (Soto, for example) weren’t coming here. Ilitch has spent on long term deals in the past. I think this is Harris’ call and his preference is to build from within and not block highly regarded prospects, until they prove otherwise.
  11. Now it’s like they are just messing with the rest of MLB. 4 yrs/$72M to help their bullpen. Now they should sign Bregman to a 6 yr/$180M contract as their utility guy.
  12. Look at how having Baez has handicapped the Tigers. They’ve stuck with him way too long and the commitment to giving him AB’s at the expense of potentially others impacted on field performance. I don’t think Bregman will be anywhere near that bad, but as the payroll grows and they need to extend Greene, Skubal, Carp, others, having payroll flexibility will be crucial. Our payroll is incredibly low right now, and we could afford making a splash for a few seasons, but as our young core moves beyond their arb years, we won’t want to be saddled with bad contracts. Hell, we still have to pay Baez for 3 more.
  13. I don’t see the Chiefs beating either the Ravens or Bills, even with the refs on their side. Now I find myself in the uncomfortable position of having to cheer for the Eagles. Not fair.
  14. Honestly, I don’t know what would make me happy. Bregman and Flaherty give me Baez and Zimmerman vibes—both seem like they would not fulfill a long term contract well. I would like to see a trade of some sort that could move some depth from our minor leagues for an established hitter. However, I’d prefer to see our young guys get more opportunities, too. We really don’t know what we have in Jung or JHen, for example. And, stubbornly, I’m not ready to give up on Torkelson, either.
  15. Nice sentiment, Bert. I’m a fan of all Detroit teams, so this one was tough. A couple of the Tigers Twitter dweebs seemed to relish in the loss, especially with Goff playing poorly.
  16. Great season, tough way for it to end. I thought we were going to fold earlier when the injuries piled up. Get healthy, make some defensive additions and we’ll get after it again next season.
  17. As a friendly reminder, still some dudes out there.
  18. Bregman’s career stats in Comerica no es bueno. I can see why they want to avoid anything short term with us.
  19. Would like to see Sasaki go to Toronto, especially if we’re supposed to face LA in the World Series this year.
  20. Not sure if we have any International budget left, but it sounds like Dodgers and Padres are trying to find more to sign Sasaki. Maybe capitalize on their desperation?
  21. I had a Detroit News paper route in 1978. My route was along Ryan Rd, from 11 to 12 Mile roads. I’d collect from a handful of houses each day and take my earnings and buy baseball cards.
