Palacios is an arbitrage opportunity, nothing more. Wayyyyyy too much is being read into this. This doesn't indicate anything about the plans for the Castros or even Short. This is a guy on waivers they wanted to take a shot on. It wouldn't shock me if they try to slip him through waivers later this offseason.
Agree. This guy is unlikely to see any significant playing time and not worthy of this much speculation. He will only be notable as the answer to a future trivia question—who was Harris’ first acquisition?

Soto will fetch a decent chip.
The guy we’re trying to dump? If Fetter’s reputation is as good as we think, that won’t enhance his trade value.
Next year won’t be a rebuild or “tank” but will be equally painful to enjoy as we start to dig out of the sinkhole this season created.

I think I want to see a Yankees v Dodgers WS. 1981, redux

Kinda disrespected him, as it’s Colt Keith. Just sayin’

who? maybe Lange and Jiminez, though I suspect the latter was shopped at the deadline. And we're not getting a potential lineup piece (I don't think) for either guy. I hate to be all Debbie Downer, but this is similar to what Dombrowski inherited and he made his famous, "you try and trade them" remark. The only guys that I think we have on our 40-man roster with good trade value are maybe Greene and Tork, and their value is lower than it should be, not to mention those are the types of players we would want to acquire in any deal.
I really think the rest of the roster is going to get you a Travis Demeritte type of return. We're not going to be trading our way out of this problem--free agency is the only viable route to make any improvements in 2023.

It sounds like Harris is looking to fix the team via the trade route, instead of free agency. The Tigers might just need one more year before Keith is ready.
Trades? Do we have tradable assets that I'm not aware of?

Cabrera wasn't a prima donna last spring, so I don't know why he would be next spring. He openly said that Baez was going to lead the team. As for "the team is bad so might as well keep Miggy", that was never said by anyone here.
No one wants Cabrera on the team, but not many people want to release him either. So there we are. I don't think that there is any middle ground to fantasize about. The guy who gets the blame is dead, and there is nothing that Avila or Harris can do about it.

Okay, let me dream of this..................They'll have to do 2 things
#1- move that RCF fence in (to not be such a joke and to actually bring in players), or at least start the process for it.............
#2 - overpay. it's just a reality that the team will face. But they don't have to go after Trea Turner or Aaron Judge here, they can go down to the next tier. This team needs 3 hitters. You can't go into another season with old man Miggy and Harold as your best hitters.
Do I think they can do this? No - I still think Chris is going to be cheap, but I do wonder - if he lured a guy away from his hometown team to come here, wouldn't he have had to promise he's loosen the purse strings a bit?
Dreaming of this roster............Go ahead an flog me, if you will
1b/DH - Brandon Belt (we're talking one year here)
1b/DH - Spencer Torkelson (please get him right, please)
2b - Jon Berti (bring the guy home, you can fleece Miami, at least he can steal bases)
ss - Javier Baez
3b - Jeimer Candelario
RF - Riley Greene
CF - Brandon Nimmo (OBP OBP OBP)
LF - Andrew Benintendi (OBP OBP, not worried about HRs)
C - Tucker Barnhart (the pitching staff was the only bright spot, he had to have something to do with it.
Bench -
Harold Castro - I like him. He is a great ultility guy
Eric Haase - Second half saved his season and maybe career. He can be 1b/Dh/C/Lf role
Jake Rogers - If he can hit at all.
Victor Reyes, Akil Baddoo or Austin Meadows (if he ever plays again). Reyes has the advantage because he can play all 3 OF positioins.I really don't want to see Willi, Schoop or Clemens again.
Miggy? Just pay him to walk away His 40th birthday is April 18th. Retire his jersey that day, you don't have to wait for the Hall of Fame. Throw him a party and then move on.
The pitching? That's a whole 'nother day. They still need 2 starters don't they ? Manning, Skubal, Breiske, Mize........we won't see any of them until mid '23 at the earliest, will we?
Hitting Coaches GONE
Scouting Director GONE
Training Staff NEXT
What about Fetter? Has his pitching philosophy contributed to all of the injuries? I’m not smart enough to know, and not a conspiracy theorist, but Turnbull, Mize, Skubal, Manning, Brieske and Funkhouser have all sustained arm-related injuries. Bad luck? Sign of the times? Or something else? Cody Stavenhagen needs to get to the bottom of this.

We should be a highly desirable destination for minor league free agent pitchers when you factor in the Fetter Effect, as well as the opportunity we offer to make the MLB staff.

Except for Lange, whole post might be correct.
Lange is to me penciled in as 2023 closer. Unless they trade him, he will be one of the most important BP pieces, if not the most important
Yes—why in the world would we let Lange leave? Probably our best bullpen piece.
-
The funny name to see on that list is Willie Randolph--one of my favorite non-Tigers in the 70's, and probably an underrated guy (unusual to say for a Yankee).

for all of this talk of blowing up the roster, where do we think we will be sourcing better players? All via free agency? Signing 6-8 free agents? I think that's unlikely. I think we all agree we have few tradable assets in the organization, due to injuries and poor performances, so upgrading talent via trades will be a longer term play. The draft is an even longer term play.
As has been previously mentioned, this team will need to have 8-9 viable starters between Detroit and Toledo. To me, that puts Brieske, Hill, Alexander and Garcia in the mix. We don't know the extent of Manning's injury, and can't count on Mize, Skubal, and potentially, Manning. That leaves Eduardo Rodriguez and four other guys. Just to start the season, and doesn't account for injuries.
We're going to need to be patient with Harris--I think his hands are tied this offseason.

The other 40 man roster challenge is that we essentially have to consider protecting players that would have been eligible for the Rule 5 which was canceled last year, due to the work stoppage. So, we have two eligible groups to deal with. From the glass is half full perspective, we also could benefit from a deeper pool of talent in the draft. Get your party favors together.

Geez, that’s troubling. Could become a re-do, similar to what Holmes is attempting with the Lions.
