Thanks. Next question : Will his playing help or hinder our playoff chances ? Are we better with a zero power .680 ops DH ?

Miggy getting picked for the all star game is a nice gesture in what could be his final season. All Star and hit .300 would be a good way to retire in grace. We all know he will be paid next year but will he play ?

El Mago is frustrating at times but very entertaining. I am glad we got him. Defense is so good and we are turning so many double plays compared to years past. When he starts hitting it’s going ton very cool. He is a star.

I don't get the rebuilding and not rebuilding themes. Teams should always be rebuilding from their current position to a better one. Turnover should be accepted and almost embraced and $$ is an asset that can always be redistributed. Grossman and Candy out and the 15 million saved can get better players. Relief pitcher gets hot then trade them off for a better return. Good teams develop those and Fetter/Hinch seem to be doing that which is the best development this year after RG. Constantly add players to help now and some to help later. If you find a true cornerstone then sure cement it in. We currently have one. So keep working Al. Start by resigning. That would fix your mistakes.

590 slugging 902 OPS 1.8 War 13 Homers in 134 AB's....26 more already than he ever got in one season in Detroit (108) during covid no less and as a 21 year old.

Reyes drive in 3 and sits the next game.
-
If we platoon in left then that’s four outfielders so Reyes is out or he platoons with Badoo. But Willie Castro’s production as a righfielder can’t be ignored. Can’t believe I said that but the stats are real good and his defense and arm plays in right. I think he will continue to get playing time there so we will see. Meadows position is DH. The Miggy situation could get sticky in 2023.
-
I’m encouraged to hear you say that.
-
I am by no means saying that Willie Castro is a major leaguer better than the 2021 Badu or even potentially fourth outfielder Reyes but what I am saying is if there is a place to play him on the field it seems to be right field in right field only but it is improvement for him
-
I have been very down on Willie Castro defensively. Harsh even but he looks not too bad in right field and his arm plays. I would be interested if anyone else agrees ?

Best win apart from opening day.

Candy Lol

Hunch’s comment about him being safe is both curious and perhaps a hint. Maybe a divorce or marital issues led to mental issues or even suicidal thoughts which would result in him being paid and safe.

Our rebuild would have been better extending Verlander than trading him. Al traded a first ballot hall of famer for trash and sent them $$$. Think about that. How does he still have a job ?
-
Thanks Al for yet another trade deadline sell off. Well done. Mission accomplished. Rebuild over. Not. Soon we will hear the long and repeated list of bad luck...injuries...bad luck etc. 2017 Tigers worst record and Giants second worst. We loose 90 plus and the Giants win 100 last year and headed for 90 this year. I don’t know but guessing their payroll is lower than ours also. But have no fear the rebuild is over.
-
I have been teetering on the fence until this year when it became clear even for me and my eternally optimistic hope that Al has no clue and Chris has no 🏀 ⚾️⚾️ To effect real change.
-
Actually we all lose because our beloved Tigers suffer for the mismanagement. We need change at the top. Maybe the very top but in lieu of that at least have our players, good and bad, on the field.

Great article in the athletic today talking about the fact that in 2017 the Tigers and Giants had basically identical losing records and drafted one two in the next year‘s amateur draft. The Tigers took the traditional route of loose and pick low where the Giants found undervalued talent both in the minors and the draft and at the major league level in developing their rosters. Fast forward today the Giants are on their second consecutive year of winning big and the Tigers continue to lose big. The article points out again the Tigers lack of creativity with roster management and how younger more thoughtful GM’s value talent using a whole different metric.
-
I had reservations because it was Tampa Bay and said they would unlock his talents. I also was hopeful Meadows would be the last piece to get up in the playoffs so I was hoping for the best. The fact he looks so much better now is good for him but reflects poorly on the Tigers. And his 100 abs in 2020 during covid as a 21 year old is not an extended look in my opinion. That whole year throughout baseball was bad information with Willie Castro hitting case in point.

I choose incompetent. I am sick of myself talking about Esock but why didn’t they give him a decent run.

two in a row. I am so sick. Win two straight and I am looking at the standings. Hopeless.

Great that he is hitting but even better if he keeps his errors down also. I do think the better the Tigers get he will also play better. I think he likes pressure and the spotlight but we need to contend for that to happen.
