Catchers - Tucker Barnhart, Eric Haase, Dustin Garneu Infielders - Javier Baez, Miguel Cabrera, Jeimer Candelario, Harold Castro, Jonathan Schoop, Torkelson Outfielders - Akil Baddoo, Riley Greene, Robert Grossman, Victor Reyes. Grossman, rf Greene, cf Torkelson, 1b Baez, SS Candelario, 3b Schoop, 2b Cabreara, dh Barnhart, c Badoo, LF Haase will play more outfield, DH and first base than catch or AAA. I fear he will wash out and I really like him.
-
Not necessarily but happy as heck with Baez at 5/140 and totally agree that 10 year deals are super risky.
-
yes. Guessing of course

Philadelphia . Feels like a DD signing . Go BIG and leave the mess behind after he departs..
-
It seems more and more teams are just not willing to go long in years for anyone. DD hiding in the bushes setting his sights on Carlos to pair with Harper ?
-
Not to date myself but my top 5 teams in order : 1968 - The comeback kids 1972 - last hurrah for the Series champs and Billy Martin 1987 - you could sense the late run coming mid summer. Also the last hurrah for the 84 champs. 1984- should have had more... 2006 - out of the blue... The best decade was the 80's followed by the DD decade.

I read he has been DH'ing more than playing in the field....yikes...

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?

I think we all can agree that pay for minor league players should improve but then again thousands actually PAY for College degrees. It's the cost of chasing our dreams and nobody is forcing them/us to do it so let's not shed too many tears. Plus it's a great way to get laid. As for the MLB players and owners ? They are all pigs at the trough fighting for their share. I don't "feel" for either. We just have to wait and see if their greed and egos lead to missed games which is really stupid if it does as there is plenty to go around. My idea is a version from the late Charles O'finely owner of the great A's teams who said "make them all free agents". Then the players will be negotiating for more restrictions as big paydays dwindle with too much supply of talent each year. As for increasing the "minimum" salary from $570,000 please. Just eliminate all the "gimmick'" and restrictions on free agency. Embrace capitalism by eliminating the service time manipulation and make it only four years , dump the cap altogether , no more arbitration and no more qualifying offers while instituting penalties for tanking. Serious penalties. Tee it up for 5 years and go.- 1,851 replies

Grosman Baez and Candy are all better hitters than Schoop right now. And by the end of 2022 Green Tork and Badoo will also. Scoop will be our seventh best hitter going into 2023 assuming Grosman is retained or replaced in equal. That’s a good lineup

Wojo - Detroit News November 30. 9th not 8th : Defense is where the Tigers needed help for Casey Mize, Tarik Skubal, Matt Manning and newly acquired Rodriguez. A quick dive into advanced metrics, via Statcast, shows since 2018, Báez ranks ninth out of 4,053 players in defensive runs saved.
-
I read it somewhere. I think the Athletic. I will back burner this and look for it when possible. I remember going "wow"...but I don't claim anything but a sub standard memory at this point .
-
Thanks for that. Lets hope they all do better !
-
Maybe Grossman will be a good example. He had career high in homers while walking 100 times. At least Hinch can emphasize patience equals homers ? Having said that as is Baez is our best bat heading into 2022 is he not ? Best defender also. I think he was 8th in all of baseball.
-
Miggy is in the way of that. Hill can't hit but his defense over Grossman and whatever Hill hits might surpass Miggy's production ? Don't know but could be close.
-
That's not too bad assuming the rookies don't struggle more than expected, Miggy doesn't crash and Badoo isn't a mirage/sophomore jinx victim. Lots of assumptions but the upside is very high. One solid bench player would be great insurance. Chris Taylor ? Probably need pitching more. maybe we can find a cheaper version.
-
Correct. The value play is Baez. Correa will get on base 23 more times over 500 ABs ( .356 x 500= 178 / .31 x 500 = 155) and Baez will hit 7 more homers.
-
And if both Baez and Rodriguez opt out after 2 years then along with Miggy's expiring contract that about 71 million dollars freed for shopping. I wonder who the available free agents in 2023/24 off season are ?
-
My bad for not coming here first ! I will not let that happen again ! But in consolation the best Baseball analytics are indeed found on this board. True. No joke.
-
I am very happy with this signing. Detroit is now in the pennant hunt for 2022 ! Great day indeed.

It seems Christmas this year came early. Very nice to sit at my desk and open up MLB Trade Rumors and have "Tigers sign Baez" on the headline. I am 100 % happy with this hire. I think it will be the best value of all the 5 shortstops and a potential steal if his OBP ticks up just a little. It's the safest bet considering Correas back, Segers injury rate and defense , Semien's age and Story's arm issue. We need to have shortstop who plays great defense and contributes to the offense and most importantly for the $$ is on the field. Baez more than fits the bill. Plus he is certainly the most entertaining to watch.Best of all we can now contend next year !!! We are relevant again 😀 Congratulations to Al Avilia. I was worried but he "got er done".
-
It absolutely could be and I hope it turns out to be.
-
Gray was a huge bargain at 4/56. Matz at 4/44 not so bad. Marte 4/78 acceptable as replacement bat for a weak hitting defensive shortstop. I know the market is still early and Al has done very well lately but I don't know if he moves and adjusts quick enough from his plans. This market is on warp speed due to the looming lockout and our Captain Kirk is the current 90 year old not the 1960's TV version. Warp speed mr Avilia !!!
-
Cobb now off the board. The problem is not only might Al snooze on the shortstop market...and maybe rightfully so if prices are nuts and the Rangers are high..but by waiting too long to adjust the free agent pitching options are gone as well as additional bats. I don't want to be lamenting in May about how truly turrrible Simmons hits and what happened to Badoo and why are Greene and Tork are struggling while Manning and # 5 stiff starter are getting lit up as the season crashes early again.
