Skubal looks good and Torkelson hit was nice to see.

In hindsight I think Boras didn't offer the "one year " contract to any of the "big market" teams on purpose to keep them viable for 2023. He works all the angles and when he found himself out of time and options for 2022 Boras made sure not to poison the well for next year. You have to tip your cap to him.
-
Boras will get his agent paid but you might have to play in Minnesota and Colorado. Nice places but not exactly solid contenders year in and year out. I just can't believe Houston didn't resign Correa for that or many others on the edge of contending. Maybe Correa is "blacklisted' of sort ? Give the Twins credit for getting the Yankees to take Donaldson so they can sign Correa instead of the Yankees just signing Correa.
-
Makes sense..Thanks
-
Why didn’t Correa just re up with Houston or a true contender ?
-
So are we better with Pineda than Boyd ? They both signed for the same contract.

Rich people don’t lose money willing. Sam Walton drove an old Ford truck forever for goodness sake. Making money to them is “Scoreboard”.

Are the showcasing Willie Castro at SS today ?

I think Kreidler is a keeper. I would hesitate before trading him. He very well could be our starting second baseman by year end/2023. Eventually paired with Santana after Baez leaves after 2023. We should just get the best possible free agent at this point as Montas will bring a haul at this point and Oakland, as someone noted, is a savvy trader.

It was a simple calculation. He was looking at 7 mil or so before the injury so 5 mil is prorated. I think the tigers should have done that and pieced it together until June in the 5th spot. Maybe Al will do better.
-
Or package in trade for a starter ?
-
Colin McHugh to Braves for 2yrs/10 mil. I think that's aBIG miss for Al and Chris.

I have always been high on Wentz. Hope the TJ is fully in his review mirror.

Best we add some MLB pitching depth. It's like we built the house and still haven't planted the grass. Don't need to but it sure looks better.
-
Agreed and it seems he was not hitting at mini camp which doesn't mean much.
-
Al probably tried to sign Peralta to a minor league deal during the lock out. Better options out there. I am very curious to see if Mike wants to dispel his "chepo" vote and sign someone good like Greinke or Rondon for one year.
-
Greinke anyone ?

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
SoCalTiger replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
Whatever level the agreement lands on the owners will find ways to "work the new system" so locking out for a lower number is a waste of time. MLB should concede this point and hold the line on early arbitration and minimum salary which does help the lower tier/revenues/ tight a** owners since its only arbitration and minimum wage that forces them to pay before free agency. That will make it easier to get the 24 votes needed as well. Cost certainty for those who need it or think they do and flexibility for those who don't. And the players who are negotiating, like Max, only care about the big payday anyway. Both sides are negotiating for the wrong thing. The players should want a high floor not a high ceiling and the owners the opposite.- 1,851 replies

The reason many teams, and it seems Detroit is included, want a low cap is because it's another revenue stream when teams go over.- 1,851 replies

The longer this stoppage goes the harder it will be to settle with player "service time" lost becoming another issue, and both sides trying to recoup lost $$ during the delay. Maybe floating 14 team playoffs will allow owners to meet the higher payroll limits and clear a path to agreement. What a mess.- 1,851 replies

LOCKOUT '22: When will we see baseball again?
SoCalTiger replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Tigers
Just read in the Athletic that the Tigers are one of only four clubs that ruled against the "final offer" MLB presented to the union. Looks like he is happy to not have baseball. Very disappointing. The others were the Reds, Angels and Arizona.- 1,851 replies

I don't understand it either. I mean nobody is forcing you to have 240 million payrolls. It seems to me the Union should agree to cap if they can get a high floor requirement that HAS to be met.- 1,851 replies

Well you can’t blame the owners for using analytics and avoiding stupid contracts. Having said that I think the onus is on the owners since they had the better deal last time- 1,851 replies
