Are they really that far apart or financially strapped that they can’t just split the difference and settle?- 1,851 replies

Baez seems to be the type of player who excels in the spotlight. If the tigers are contenders his stats will be better.

Although I really don't care I think this new agreement should tilt slightly in the players favor since the last one went the owners way. But the minimum salary ask for a raise from 570 to 775 or so makes me think they are trying to both improve their deal and get payback for the last 5 years.- 1,851 replies

I would like to see the shift toned down by requiring 4 infielders on the dirt. Shifting in the infielder is fine but the softball player in shallow right field I don't care for . A line drive to shallow right should be a hit and the game needs base runners.- 1,851 replies

The Big watch is Jobe. He should totally dominate low A if he really has better than MLB spin rate. Most evaluators would have gone with Mayer but Al is huge pitching guy so he is still making the decisions. At least up to now.

Interesting idea. I also think Lotteries are silly but teams should not be allowed to pick low year after year without penalty or ownership change. Your idea will fix that.- 1,851 replies

I agree with your point that sometimes teams try and injuries etc prevents them from being successful but that and pure tanking is a big difference. Why are some teams low in the standings almost every year ?- 1,851 replies

1. I think tanking is more acceptable to ownership when they can have a much lower payroll. Forced to pay they might actually put a respectable team on the field. 2. Well so be it. If the management is poor nothing will ever help them. Maybe hire some talent instead. Yes I do or at least its worth to incentivize teams to try because some teams are not trying to be competitive. Just the opposite. 3. Or rewards teams that actually are trying to win. They still have the main draft to help weaker teams. There are only 30 teams in a world full of Billionaires. If you don't want to compete year in and year out just sell your damn team to someone who will. Tanking is purposeful suck and it's a disgrace and insult to the fans and game of baseball. It's not rebuilding its sucking.- 1,851 replies

Eliminate tanking by : 1. Having a team spending minimum. Say 1/3 of the maximum. Say 75 million and base it over two years ( team could spend 50 them 100 mil yr 2). All underages are taxed at 2 times the shortfall and go the the players union. 2. Limitation of low picks in the draft. A team can not pick top 5 two years in a row and top 10 more than 3 times in a five year period. 3. Turn the international signing into the international draft. About 10 rounds and draft order ( per Jason Stark of the Atlantic) top pick goes to the team that was closest to making the playoffs and then down the line and all playoff teams by reverse order of wins as usual.- 1,851 replies

Baseball is unique because of its historical statistics. It's the "back of the baseball card" and what connects one generation of fans to the next as points of comparison. As Baseball becomes more and more money driven those statistical comparisons are fraying and the connection to the past diminishes. Complete games, innings pitched, great starting pitching matchups are all going down the drain with "one time through the order" pitching. Playoff records are getting diluted, and soon more so, when so many games are "playoffs". Heck it used to be only two teams in the playoffs for about 100 years. it just seems that as baseball tries to negotiate more money into the game by changing it the quality of the sport just suffers. Games used to be 2 hours and now they are four and its progress. Just go back to 2 leagues and the World Series. 25 man rosters with limited "up and down" from the minors. Pitcher have to pitch more so the offense can do more. Everyone's a free agent at 28 or 29. Let the market determine salaries. Limit the draft and combine it with the international draft.Let teams scout and recruit players left out. Just get the non baseball folks like Manfred out of the decision making.- 1,851 replies
