Semien is 31 so he is the best shot at 5 years. Also Baez because he isn't as good but I agree with the board he is not what we want but still way better than what we have.

I hope your right since it means we have a chance but Lindor's 10/341 deal is the sugar plum they will seek. I doubt they reach that but still think 300 ish will be attained. Also don't forget the Yankees spending big or discount the Dodgers retaining Seager especially if the Angels come calling. I think LA will sign Seager for 10/300 + and The Yankees Correa for 12/ 342 both of which will drag Story north of 200 and Simean 6/180. But thats just a guess. Probably will be February until we know.

Houston, Texas, Dodgers will stay in on Seager , Angels and Mets for Baez are all in the mix for shortstops plus the mystery team ! I still think Correa, Seager and Story all top 200 million and the first two 300.

I agree that 2 stud free agent pitchers and a shortstop will blow the budget. But we do need pitching especially for next year and Turnbull in 2023 is still iffy since it will be first year after TJ. Boyd is gone in 2023 for sure if not 22. So which do we prefer : 1.) Paul Dejong trade if it allows us to add one of Stroman/Gausmen and one of Gray/Rodriguez level. Or 2.) Trevor Story and Gray/Rodriguez and Wood/Heany

I would guess Trevor story will cost closer to 200 million than 100 million. Ray would worry me on a 100 million plus contract banking on just one years performance.

Huge long term contracts would be forbidden if it was my $$$. There are so many options to put a team together why commit 10 years. Lindor was average this year and they still have 300 mil + on the books. Gerritt Cole slumped and now he as 36 mil/year for the next 7 years ? It can work..Trout..Max..but even then injuries take a toll. Can any human really stay motivated year round with 300 million in your pocket ? That takes a very disciplined human being.

That could also bring down the overall cost of pitching which might be motivation for teams.

I think Al will definitely add a catcher and probably even pay some money to do so. Gomes, Barnhart , Pina , Perez or similar. We need someone very competent to handle our young pitching even if they do not hit much. I also don't know if we can rely on Rogers bat nor is it a given his arm will recover after Tommy John surgery. The results are good but no guarantee. And yes we should "go for it " in 2022. damn straight we should !!!

If the Tigers sign Carlos Correa for 10 years 350 million I will be very surprised. I won't be unhappy but I think its better to go a different direction as I have been advocating. These playoff games are another example of the importance of pitching ,defense and quality roster depth on the 26 and I would spend my money on that.

I love Marte and maybe his price does slip after shopping for shortstops but I think he will still be expensive and want 4 years. I look at Canha as much much cheaper and shorter term. Line 15/2 verses 70/4. Save $ for pitching. I keep thinking plug the defensive holes at short and catcher at reasonable cost , add a solid bat at low cost/short term assuming Greene and Tork to come up and contribute slower and save big money for pitching . Lots of it.

Canna is very underrated and probably requires only a 2 year commitment.

I agree we should not sleep on the bat. My off season would be something like the following : Paul DeJong - SS Barnhart - Catcher if the reds don't sign him. Maybe Perez from Cleveland if they don't though less interesting. Mark Canha - 3 to 4 years. Gets on base. Underrated ala Grossman . Hedges against Badoo and a slow start for Greene and can play first base if Tork starts later. Max Scherzer or Jon Gray as second choice Alex Cobb or similar level starter

DeJong is making 4.3 mil per year to ride the bench so he should come reasonable in trade.

They could trade for Paul DeJong of the Cardinals. Poor hitter but great glove and was 1.6 war last year. Then load up on pitching. After all the expensive free agents shortstops get signed then circle back and try to trade for good minor league shortstop thats blocked even if they are two years away.

Live I thought he swung but replays did show different. The batter lunged forward and I think thats what gave the impression of the swing. Why can't they just review it if it ends an at bat ?
