Honestly I wish it was in the collective bargaining to just max contracts at 8 years at the least..not sure if the players will sign that though. I mean I get that it is the landscape now and if you want those top tier guys you have to "play ball", BUT in this class of SS...I just do not think you throw the check book at Correa and just cross your fingers and hope it works out. We are not one guy away from a WS...I think right now we are 1-2 good guys away from the playoffs. Honestly I would be more happy if they said they got Correa for 200 mil over 5 years than 300 mil over 10. He would still be the highest paid SS per year and we are only on the hook for 5 years. I KNOW that will never happen, just sayin.

10 years 300 I may be able to stomach, but even then I would prefer one of the other guys on a shorter term. We are seeing this all over baseball. Guys getting 10 year deals and just not really living up to them, but it is what it is for now so the term is pretty much set in stone at this point. Correa will get 10 years...how much over those 10 years? Like I said I could stomach 300, but if he wants what Lindor got? No thanks. And yeah I would 100% let him walk for that extra 41 mil...even at 300 it is hard to stomach, but I would be ok with it. I just think there is a better than average chance there will not just be a couple years regret with this contract at the end...I think the regret will start pretty quickly and just get uglier from there. The key thing to your entire second paragraph is "when he is on the field". There may be no cap in baseball and we did have an owner who was willing to throw the book at the salary to try and make a contender we cannot just assume Chris will follow that legacy. I expect the Tigers to be in the top half of payrolls on most years, but I am not going to just expect them to be in the top 5 every year. Correa is not a slam dunk and giving him over 300 mil for 10 years just makes me nervous. You guys were right about some of the others in the past. Miggys extension, Fielder, Dantrelle etc and I was on the wrong side of those arguments...if they do sign him I hope I am on the wrong side again.

I think Seager is going to sign for a pretty substantial amount less than Correa, but again that is just an opinion. I guess we will all see pretty soon how much these guys get and where they go. Give me Story or Simeon on a 5-6 year deal for 20 or so per...or whatever they may get. I would be ok with that.

I guess, but most injuries are fluky anyway. Once in awhile you get a guy that is pretty brittle compared to the norm and that is what I am worried about. I think there is a real possibility wherever he ends up the team/fan base is going to REALLY hate that contract REALLY quickly. Again that is just my gut though, but it is pretty substantial. I am 100% honestly shocked I am one of the only people on here who seems to think signing him for over 300+ would be a bad idea. Usually I am on the other side with the "It is not my money" type takes..

Even giving him 152 his rookie year he is averaging 115 games a year....300+ mil for 115 games? Now he could very well go on to play 150+ games every year from here on out, but to me that is pie in the sky thinking...something 2010 JBK would be doing right now...while I am still an optimist...I also want to see the team contending every year for a long time.

Seager is not any better in terms of injuries or games played. He is actually worse, but he is not going to require 300+ mil over 10 years either...

I watched most of this one. Good win for the boys. Cade played well enough. I hope he stays healthy, I hope he continues to grow and I hope he stops making commercials...man those things are BRUTAL. -
Not really with Correas injury history. He has played what I would consider a full season twice in his first 6 years in the league. 99 153 109 110 75 58 148 You are at your best and most athletic when you are younger of course...his history does not bode well for a 10 year deal worth over 300 mil IMO. AGAIN, I will not be devastated if they sign him. He is a great player and it will make the next few years a little more exciting to watch if he is on the team, but not THAT much more exciting than if they got Story or Simeon or Baez et al
-
On the contrary I think the length is the most relevant thing. I remember when we got Prince...I was super excited and was told by MANY people on here what a horrible contract it was and how the Tigers would rue the day....they were right...I wised up. I want the team to be good for long stretches with outside chances to win it all every year as opposed to teams who SHOULD win it...don't, but mortgaged the future and now you have to wait for the rebuild to be competitive again. I was also wrong about Miggy...he has not earned that contract in many years...he was paid for what he did and I think that is an honorable thing, but not necessarily the best thing for the team. I honestly think the bargaining agreement will address length of contracts in the next session. I would not be shocked to learn they max them at 8 years...players would not like it of course, so maybe it leads to a lock out..., but who knows.

And the non answer of the year award goes to....

What do you guys think is too much for Correa? For some reason I am stuck on nothing over 300 mil...In an ideal world he would get no more than 7 years, but you have to bid against the market...and the market is all 10 years on these guys in their mid to late 20's so it is what it is. I just do not think he is worth 300+ especially in a market with soo many other legit SS's as free agents.

Even considering it was the #1 pick -v- the #2 pick...both teams had still, up to that point, only won 2 games total. I think a million is pretty darn good considering that. -
The Browns will probably pay the salary the rest of the year and give them a first round pick next year...

Jerami Grants thiiird quarter was pretty impressive...dude could not miss. Not having been following the past 3-4 years I was not sure who he was, but he had a heck of a game last night and when Green dunked over Cade and was talking smack....I knew right there the Pistons made the right call...he fell back on defense and we ended up getting 4-5 points immediately after that dunk. That fire 100% has a place in basketball IMO, not in the 3rd quarter of the 11th game of the year when you have only won 1 game so far. -
I am still not ready to start in on the historical/cultural stuff. I enjoy my reading as a means of escape not for further education, but I know a day will come where I will get caught up in them. I have tried maybe a dozen or so over the years and finished some, but for the most part I never finish them and go back to something more for entertainment. Those Cork O'Conner books sound interesting...there are soo many of them. I think I will give the first one a try and see if it catches me. Thanks for the recommendation.

I was not trying to be funny, but real. Oh well.

Carry on My Wayward Son is simultaneously a very popular song and a very under rated song. It may just be the words for me, but I love that tune.

Wings will make the playoffs this year if everyone stays healthy. They will be a bottom seed and get bounced in the first, but it will be nice to have playoff hockey back.

Maybe you do not notice because I think you align with that party (which I honestly do not care about), but that is ALL the dem party has been doing the past 10-12 years...what you are suggesting about being more upright etc. I really do not want to get into a conversation about the good/bad of each party, but being a republican on the internet is a fruitless waste of time and it can be frustrating sometimes.

I didn't get out of the A's.

Watched most of that game...they were playing really well the whole game, keeping the puck in their zone which seemed like 90% of the time up until the thiiiird when the Oilers got desperate. Having Larkin back really makes a huge difference. Also Seider can skate.

Man, I always thought you were better than these types of posts.

Why? There is holding, literally, on every single play from scrimmage...some get called some do not. I am sick of looking at plays that do not get called. It will never be perfect and yet I hear you "have to earn" those calls...just like the NBA. If you are a huge fan I apologize, because I know the feeling. I used to watch soo much football and just got sick of seeing calls go against the Lions that were passed over in other games. I do not know if it is simply human bias or what, but it just sucked the love I have for the game right out of me. That and replay...cheering a play on only to have it come back because of a foul or something. Took all the spontaneity out of the game for me...I have been an apathetic football fan for about 4-5 years now and glad for it. -
Every once in awhile I whisper the Liberty biberty thing to cheer myself up a little. Legit...it makes me laugh. Almost every time I see the word Liberty.
