If the Walmart parking lot is 300 miles away from the shore then I would take that over a hurricane 2 miles away, even with a car packed with kids. And I also already conceded that if they did not have a car and there was not a state run program they could call, then it is understandable. Also I do not know that for a fact. Do you know for a fact it is not something that is offered? Because I am pretty sure you do not need a computer or a smart phone to get help. I would assume there are places to call if you live in an evacuation zone to get assistance. A good ol fashioned rotary phone will work if you still have your wits....and if you do not...then again I concede that point. And when was it ever cheap to live by the ocean? And for the hard of hearing...some people may have legit reasons for not being able to leave...some. Can I be sensitive to those who had nowhere to go and at the same time realize the majority of people who do not leave are just lazy...and not care as much about those people as I do those who legit had a reason they could not leave? I am pretty sure both can be true.

I hear the "sometimes people can't leave" thing and wonder why? If you do not own a car and the state was not offering rides/shelter of some kind (which I am not sure if they do or would, but I assume they offer it) I get it. But if you own a car, pack it up with what you will need for a few days, drive far enough away...even park in a Walmart parking lot or something and sleep in the car for a few days and come back. Does the state not offer some kind of ride for those who do not have one and a shelter of some kind? All of that is better than dying or waiting for other people to rescue you. I imagine there is a small minority who have no family, have no vehicle are infirm to begin with. I am not talking about those people, but again...even then I would assume you could call Red Cross or someone and they would get you out while it was safe to do so for them.

It just multiplies your winnings based on long odds. You make multiple bets and they all have win for you to win. Even "good odds" bets are tough to get right with so many in a row. You can do any combination of parlays...ex Lions to win, Jets to cover, Goff throwing over 300 yards, Swift running for under 100 etc etc.

When my wifes mother was alive, she was not good about making mortgage payments. My wifes name was on the mortgage and it was affecting our abilities with credit so I started paying the mortgage for her, did this about 3-4 years then we went through the process to have the mortgage assumed, but was not approved for it. It was basically taking my wifes name off and putting it in the mother in laws name only. I am guessing this is the same thing?

Week Two: Washington Commanders (1-0) @ Detroit Lions (0-1)
John_Brian_K replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
Glad I was wrong. The first quarter was one of the better halves I have seent them play in a long time. -
Speaking of roads....before I even knew the history behind 375, I thought it was a stupid place to put a freeway. Completely cuts the city off...all that area behind Ford Field and CoPa was a HUGE waste before.....now when it is finally razed it should open up a whole new area for Detroit to expand. So not a peeve, but kind of an anti peeve...I love that they are finally getting it right....or trying to anyway.

I cannot wrap my head around the idea that people think it is fine to just speed up to the front of a closed lane and cut people off to get in. This is normalized now? When did this happen?
-
Yeah that is the problem right....trying to blast down to get ahead of everyone else because they are in "more of a hurry" or think they should be in front or something? I have no idea. You see the signs miles ahead 90% of the time, if everyone just merged casually after they saw the sign there would be very little slow down at all. Do not get me started on those who drive like a mile when the entire lane is barely moving.
-
Our differences of opinion on this probably explains why we have butted heads in this forum...moreso even then our political differences I think. Speeding to get to the front of a lane closure is the definition of selfishness and disregard for those around you. I hate it, but you do you.

So Leos SHOULD win this game... -
Was listening to Clapton....Live at LCA. Dude can still kill a guitar. I did not expect him to bounce around the stage..even in his hay day he was not that, but dude moved maybe 5 feet the entire concert. 🤣

They scored 35 points...this game was on the defense. -

Yup that was before the huge TV deal IIRC. They make more on the TV deal then the tickets now, I do not think that was always the case, but could be wrong...I did not look it up. -
I think this fits here....sitting outside waiting on the bus with my kids (the bus stop is at the end of my driveway) and my daughter points to something on the ground on the lawn. A Winchester knife, half open, fully functional and in good shape. I did not notice it before. I usually have to pick up the random water bottle or monster energy drink can etc to throw out and did not see it, but it was right there. Picked it up by the blade just in case. No signs of blood or anything and no recent occurrences in my area of a stabbing or attempted murder etc.

Super Storm (August 28th). Did you lose power?
John_Brian_K replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in General Discussion
I almost kinda wish I did lose power more often so I could get a whole home generator for backup. Feels like a waste of money now because we have been in this house for 9 years or so and lost power for a few minutes a couple times and that was it. The first time it is a major inconvenience and we lose it for a few days I am going to wish I had a generator, but right now it feels like a waste of money. -
I am honestly surprised they did not already do a BHC 4. I am looking forward to it...I would think they should go a more serious route...not that the last ones were not serious, but they were a little more campy. I would like a deeper dive into Axels life and add in a cop caper in the mix. If done right I think could be really good. If they just rinse and repeat the same type of story I would be disappointed.

My regular stocks are all over the place, up and down, but my kids MESP accounts.....they are invested in the most bland low growth and almost no risk funds somehow lost a grand over the last year....I do not check these regularly and every month they get deposited to and once a year on their birthday we dump a bit more from family making contributions instead of gifts. I have not researched it a ton yet, but have no idea where that 1k went. It is weird.

I always thought the idea of living on an island and taking a boat into the main land where my car was parked would be a cool thing. I wonder how long it would remain cool before I got completely sick of it? I like to think I never would, because I love being on the water, but a part of me thinks I would get sick of it after awhile.

Hardknocks/Preseason Thread - Including OTAs
John_Brian_K replied to TP_Fan's topic in Detroit Lions
We have legitimate reasons to be excited for decades....a few of those years were actually decent years...Hope and kool aid is all Lions fans have to grasp onto in the preseason. I would like to be proven wrong since my decent into apathy about 6-7 years ago, but I would not put any money on it. -
Speaking of peeves....the word "hack". When did a good tip become a "hack"? Back in the day a hack was someone who could not do a good job and had to "hack it".

I almost never answer my personal phone. I have like 2-3 people I will answer my phone for and that is about it. Unless I am expecting a call because of an email. I prefer everything in writing so I do not have to rely on remembering what was talked about. Send me an email, if it is important it will be there forever for me to look back on.

Hardknocks/Preseason Thread - Including OTAs
John_Brian_K replied to TP_Fan's topic in Detroit Lions
I agree this is about a 6 win team, but I do not think that will show improvement...unless they lose 2-3 games in the last second of the game again. -
You know what else works great? Simply getting over when you see the signs that a lane is closing instead of racing up to the front...just a thought.

Baseball players popping up from a slide after getting called out IMMEDIATELY looking over and doing the ear phone thing to have the dugout look...especially when it was obvious they were out. Baez does it a ton and I hate it. Do you think the coach is not looking at it? It is like "no way I did something wrong here or got caught...you better check that!" It makes me cringe every time I see a player do it.
