  1. an armed security force of off duty cops? nothing wrong with that when youre facing drive by shootings and shutting down north/milwaukee/damen on saturday nights after hours. its like a neighborhood watch group. of course, if youre uninformed about what's happening in those areas, you probably think nothing is amiss about 57 carjackings in december this year as opposed to 37 last year and 7 in 2019. nothing to see here.
  2. i dont see how. are they going to unionize? a draft a follow system like hockey might work.
  3. the mayor of san francisco of all places just came out and gave a big anti crime speech and is requesting more money for police officers. saying they've been too easy on criminals and its time for tough love. the former mayor of philly just came out and said woke white people's racism is abetting crime in black neighborhoods with their soft on crime stances. so the tide may be turning as democrat mayors realize people are pissed about crime in their expensive city neighborhoods. chicago has 821 murders this year. more than new york. more than los angeles. that should be unacceptable for politicians in charge of the city.
  4. https://cwbchicago.com/2021/12/armed-men-rob-at-least-13-people-across-north-side-including-a-group-of-8-victims-who-were-walking-in-lakeview.html 13 people mugged in lakeview in one night. https://cwbchicago.com/2021/12/amazon-truck-hijacked-in-lakeview-one-day-after-armed-men-confronted-an-amazon-driver-in-boystown.html right in front of my friend's million dollar house. the same friend who had someone try to carjack him in his garage a couple months before. https://cwbchicago.com/2021/12/thieves-confront-diners-at-roscoe-village-restaurant-getting-away-with-wallets-and-purse-cpd-report-says.html at le sud in roscoe village. they walked into the restaurant and just mugged people and then left. is that ok? is that safe? i would argue things are getting a bit out of hand, even in the safer neighborhoods in town.
  5. https://www.google.com/amp/s/chicago.suntimes.com/platform/amp/crime/2021/10/10/22719077/wicker-park-shooting https://www.google.com/amp/s/chicago.suntimes.com/platform/amp/crime/2021/6/20/22542423/karina-paredes-killed-bucktown-shooting https://www.google.com/amp/s/chicago.cbslocal.com/2021/09/29/ariola-family-bucktown-carjacking-shooting/%3famp i guess if you look at the whole city and realize crime is up everywhere you can convince yourself that bucktown is "safe" and laugh at people concerned with crime and call them racists, but i'm not sure that would be an accurate portrayal of what is happening at the moment. i mean, you sort of scoffed at me when i told oblong that downtown was a little rougher than it used to be, and then in the next week police arrested a bunch of people with a car load of guns across the street from the hotel he's staying at and then a group of teens ransacked downtown, pulled a bus driver from a cta bus and beat the shit out of him right in front of the bean with traffic everywhere. cta bus drivers protested downtown last weekend because there have been so many incidents of them being assaulted lately. i guess if you think that's ok, or a one off, or what happens in big cities, but i dont. chicago is undergoing a big crime surge for whatever reason, and it is not restricted to the south or west sides.
  6. when is the last time you were in bucktown? my friend owns a bar on milwaukee near the six corners of milwaukee/damen/north. people come and shut down the street on weekends. just park their cars in the middle of the street and shut the whole intersection down for hours. local business leaders met with the cops who told them they could identify some of the biggest gang members in chicago there at the time. a couple weeks later there was a big driveby shooting right outside the bar. my buddy was also shot coming home from the bar a couple years ago. bucktown can get sketch at night. especially on the weekends. and have you seen what's going on in lincoln park and lakeview? robberies are up tremendously over last year. i dont know why youre so blase about it.
  7. we've had a bunch of family gatherings. in the beginning we were concerned about it, but once the evidence got less convoluted we were ok meeting with family. since then we've had the granparents and great grandparents over many many times with no issues. everyone is vaxed and boosted now, i'm not worried at all.
  8. you're thinking that harbaugh is a normal person. he's not. he's a freak. i dont think he's going anywhere.
  9. is the equivalent cars or perhaps alcohol? if you give your kid a car and he kills someone, i dont think parents should be held liable criminally. however, if they give their kid alcohol and they kill someone they probably should. im not sure where guns fall on that scale, but its probably closer to alcohol considering guns are inherently dangerous.
  10. michigan finished strong. still have some guys who might sign late too. getting a top 10 class out of this with the way they started is a testament to how important this year's results were for them. the next two years - if they can continue their success - might see them get closer to having top talent again.
  11. dabo went so far to say that the transfer portal takes away from the focus on education. lord, give me the strength to lie and have no shame like dabo. one of the biggest cheaters in college football has the gall to say that the transfer portal belies college football's educational mission because clemson cant compete with other schools on nil money. that slimy pos is giving urban meyer a run for his money as the worst person in football. what a fucking phony.
  12. i dont have faith in sheila, but i think holmes as a good choice, spielman was a good choice, and campbell was a good choice. i am cautiously optimistic that the lions are finally on the right track.
  13. there is a less than zero chance jacksonville would trade a top 5 pick for decker. come on. there is an almost 0% chance they would trade anything more than a third rounder for him. a contender might give you a second. maybe. the rams might be crazy enough to give you a first but they've traded all their firsts!
  14. it wouldnt surprise me to see 4 or 5 qbs taken in round one.
  15. what part do you disagree with?
  16. i stated my position. the fact that you didnt read it isnt my problem.
  17. i think you CAN ban semi automatic weapons. there was a case post heller about a suburb in illinois that banned them. the seventh ciruit upheld the ban and the supreme court didnt grant cert. but i dont know what this supreme court would do. they would probably have four votes to hear a case like that.
  18. 1) you always take contrarian positions against people who criticize the lions. fact. 2) i just saw the thread today, so that's why i commented today. want to keep going for another 10 pages? i know you need to have the final word.
  19. so you'll keep incessantly arguing for page after page after page after page after page about the meaning of the word "ruined" until somebody says "you're right mb, they werent ruined, but they were left incomplete and unfulfilled because of organizational ineptitude." which is more or less what i said above. but since i didnt say "they werent ruined", you felt the need to comment and continue this stupid thing going for another few posts. and then you'll go and find something in that sentence that you dont agree with and spend the next ten pages arguing about that. so please, continue.
  20. the lions left hall of famers' careers incomplete because they have always failed to hire a management team that could bring them sustained organizational success. period. the term "ruined" is open to interpretation. the sentiment of making fun of the lions' organizational ineptitude by stating that you dont want players you like to come here because the organization will always be a failure should be a joke we can all share in. its the nature of internet message board posters to argue incessantly over what the term "ruined" means. that silliness aside, realizing the lions have left talented players' careers unfulfilled in terms of organizational success is not disputable.
  21. i'd rather pass on a qb this year and wait until next year when we pick in the top 5 again. use this year to get your myles garrett/jj watt at #1, then get your obj at 25, get a quality safety or lb at the start of round 2, and get solid depth in round 3. use your two #1 picks in 2023 to trade up for your qb of the future.
  22. the way some people defend the lions no matter what is hilarious. theyre the worst franchise in american sports history. yeah, theyve had some great players whose careers have been squandered in a history of failure. just embrace it and stop arguing just to be a contrarian. william clay ford ruined this franchise. now that he is gone, they have a shot at becoming a good team. be happy. but dont be stupid and think they're actually not a tire fire of a franchise.
  23. stafford will not be a hall of famer without playoff success.
  24. the isles are such a boring team. regardless, good win. and all those in attendance get a free "i saw rasmussen score" t shirt.
