for once he shot it to the top corner.

bork was seen as ideologically extreme and may have been. even funnier was his subsequent nominee was donald ginsburgh who had to withdraw because he smoked pot. a bunch of democrats werent going to vote for that hippy! as to "decorum", what happened to thomas and kavanaugh were seen by the gop as character assasinations that went over the line. but ymmv on that.

all the "moderate" gop-ers are going down. liz cheney (far from moderate but she was vocally pro impeachment) will be next.

i remember when they played the kings who are another young team but who are further ahead of the wings in the rebuild and still have some really good older players like doughty, etc. they played the wings off the ice and made them look like amateurs. they were faster and controlled the game completely. if the wings are miles behind the kings, they are more than just a handful of players away from competing. they are two or three offseasons away. the hope is that the swedish cavalry is coming. they are performing so well over there that it gives you hope. sprinkle in a carter mazur developing with a guy like elmer and wallinder and edvinsson and you have a really solid base. now give me shane wright.

fabbri too. he's a solid third line player who can play on the top two lines in a pinch for a while. hronek isnt a top 4 d man, but he can play in the league. lindstrom has been disappointing. walman hasnt been too bad, he's got speed and a good shot. he's worth keeping next year. but they need mcisaac to hit next year along with edvinsson. i think its still too early to count on them moving forward.

i'm a bit down on ned. he's had some good games and some very very bad games. we all know he doesnt have good defensemen in front of him, but that'a not an excuse for letting in some of the goals he's allowed. he's been very hot and cold. greiss may need to retire. regardless, ned is the starter next year. i wonder if they would bring back bernier on a one year deal if he's available?

i think the gop is more guilty of that than democrats, but the democrats are not without fault. i do think that mcconnell's refusal to give garland a hearing was a step over the edge. he should have given him a hearing and voted him down on a party line vote like what happens to every nominee now.
-
i think it would probably be less because he'll be at the end of his deal and he'll want an extension. unless you envision packaging contracts for a player on a large deal? but i dont see the pistons doing that or having the additional contracts - or being able to give up the picks - to do so.

so youre fine with 5 new conservative judges in 2024 if a republican wins the presidency? i'm not. i'm happy with nine but maybe 11? 7? since its become so politicized, perhaps the best scenario is to term limits for sc judges? the problem with that - of course - is that the side in power will not want to limit its next pick and it will take the side in power to enact the rule. maybe writing the law so it goes into place in 8 years would help?

women are getting abortions all the time, trans people have more recognized rights than ever in the history of the world and now can bring discrimination cases thanks to....checks notes....neil gorsuch and the us supreme court, lgbtq++++ people have more rights in america now than ever. that's only increasing, not decreasing. institutional norms are what protects you from becoming an autocracy. i'm fine with age limits for justices. it might even stop the practice of ignoring good justices simply because they've reached the age of 60 (or 50...). at the end of the day, for all the handwringing and apocalyptic talk, kentaji brown will be confirmed with more votes than coney barrett or kavanaugh.
-
that's the thing, do you really want seider amd raymond to grow up like this? losing every year? they need a new voice. blashill has to go no matter what yzerman thinks of his ability to coach young players. there are lots of coaches who can do that. find one.

and when president desantis comes into office in 2024, youre ok with him adding three more justices? or 5 more?
-
that assumes the portland trade is still there on draft night. lots of things can happen between now and then. portland could decide to cash in the lillard chips and deal him for a huge package somewhere. then were potentially stuck with grant or dealing him to the lakers for a 2047 first round pick.
-
what mcconnell did wasnt subtracting the number. there arent 8 justices now even if there was for a very short period of time. i think you open a big can of worms if you just increase the number of justices willy nilly because youre in charge temporarily. it compunds mcconnell's error and would erode the legitimacy of the court, for those of us who care about such things. i recognize that not everyone does.

oh come on now, the border crisis went away when trump was defeated.
-
how many judges do you want on the supreme court? 19? 39? should we just keep adding them whenever one side gets a majority?
-
new orleans might think this draft class is good.
-
it wont matter who biden picked, the republicans would likely not allow her/him to be accepted.
-
frank jackson is occasional bench scoring and depth.
-
but what about manchin and sinema!!!!!!! lol. she'll be easily confirmed. she's taking a liberal's seat so its not a fight. now....if thomas dies...then you'll see a fight. especially since republicans will likely control both houses of congress after the next election.
-
nope. need a #1 for next year.
-
lions better trade out of #2 and get at least one #1 picm next year or just draft willis this year, because too many teams are either gonna need a qb and be able to draft one high next year because they will be worse than detroit this year (carolina, atlanta) or will have more ammo than detroit to trade up and get one if they want to (houston, philly).
