  1. what a great day in michigan sports.
  2. this is almost perfect for abc/espn. bama, michigan, georgia? perfect. the only hiccup is cincy preventing notre dame from making it.
  3. michigan/bama or michigan/georgia will be the highest rated college football game of the year. only topped if michigan reaches the title game.
  4. bama just dominated the consensus #1 team in the country. they will be #1. bama michigan georgia cincy
  5. the concept started in the middle ages. when you captured somebody, you held them for ransom. but then you would let them go on so they could rustle up the money to pay the ransom and then come back when its paid. the french king captured at poitiers being the most famous example. or richard the lionheart. but i digress. i think bail is possibly unconstitutional. you get arrested, you havent been convicted yet. by what right can they hold you? so im sympathetic to "anti-bail" prosecutors (like our own here in chicago). but with that is going to come increases in crime because you are likely putting people back on the street who are in criminal gangs who will return to do criminal things. as i believe you noted before, the reasons for crime are society based reasons, and local prosecutors and cops arent the ones that can really influence that on a large scale. bail reform has its positives - not locking people up for minor offenses cause they cant pay - and negatives - letting out people who will commit other crimes again before being tried for their last crime. i tend to favor the bail reformers.
  6. the boosters will pay for it. like they do now.
  7. the draft was put in place by an ownership group determined to 1) strike up interest in the league, and 2) make sure their lowliest franchises have a means to get better and thus raise revenues for all the members in their ownership club. you dont have either of those drivers in college sports and there will be no draft. more likely will be the big schools breaking away and forming their own league separate from the ncaa. then they can pay whatever they want for their "student athletes." and honestly, it will be the best thing for the players. they will get money and have the opportunity for a degree from the best educational system in the world. should they choose to take it.
  8. what should american sports "do" about legalized gambling? sports in every country in the world have betting houses in the stadiums and are sponsored by betting houses. are those sports illegitimate in some way? i cant get over this american notion of purity in their sports that is somehow despoiled by any association with people betting on the game. as to college football, its just another sign of the erosion of the fiction of the "student athlete." just get it over with and make it an official minor league. make the nfl pay them.
  9. everything politicians do is political. news at 11.
  10. everything the prosecutor does - or doesnt do - is for political purposes. see the jussie smollett trial going on right now in chicago.
  11. they sat down and brought in a defense designed to beat osu. the offense is a return to "pure harbaugh." power run game. theyre running some of the same stuff his brother is running for the ravens...only without lamar jackson at qb. in fairness, michigan's rbs might be better than the ravens rbs. i think osu's offense is the best offense in college football, by far. michigan didnt "shut them down," they got 500 yards on them. but they made them drive the field and take a lot of time off the clock and made them kick a couple field goals instead of getting tds. the josh ross stop on 3rd and 2 to start the 3rd quarter was the play of the game. osu only down 1 at that point. the real surprise to me was michigan's offense being unstoppable in the 2nd half. i did not see that coming.
  12. tp tends to view michigan players through maize and blue colored glasses. but hutch is a really good player. but is he the next jj watt? who knows.
  13. its about projection, not what they did in college.
  14. then he should have taken the trade offers supposedly on the table. passed on mitchell for luke too, if you recall. van gundy's time as gm was an unmitigated disaster that set the franchise back a decade.
  15. the annual "fuck you stan van gundy" game.
  16. brugler's new mock is up at the athletic. has hutch #1 to the lions. also says hutch and thibs would be borderline top 10 picks in last year's draft.
  17. almost all of osu's offensive line will be drafted. most of them fairly high. of course, hutchinson is a top 5 pick and ojabo is a top 15 pick.
  18. iowa's offense has been terrible all year and ferentz is notoriously conservative and unimaginative. here i am talking myself into them being able to move the ball on michigan at will. this is what its like to be a michigan fan in 2021: perpetual dread and waiting for the other shoe to drop and us to lose some game we shouldnt.
  19. i think they schemed to take away osu's run game and it worked. iowa has the best offensive lineman in the country on their team at center, but their tackles are bad. they may be able to run on michigan. and i was assume they could scheme a better gameplan than ohio state or penn state did to avoid michigan's rush. msu made um's defense look bad. iowa doesnt have kenneth walker, but they are a better coaching staff than ohio state and penn state and can presumably figure out how to get michigan's young linebackers in bad positions.
