im glad i didnt go. sheesh. tyutayev, sebrango, cotton? that's about it. -
im worried about goff against the bears defensive line. they ripped up the browns and the browns o line is pretty good (by reputation). i'm not sure the offense will be able to do much. you would also think the bears would learn their lesson and get fields out of the pocket and on the run. that worrys me too, especially if the bears are at home. if they can force fields to stay in the pocket and the bears call as bad a game as they did against the browns, the lions should win.
-
the bengals are terrible. lions can win that game. they can beat the eagles and steelers too. those teams arent very good either. i'd give the lions a 50% chance against cincy, 20% rams, 50% eagles, 40% steelers, 20% browns.

next season will be the bigger tests for this year's rookies. they are really in bad spots right now. hard to judge them on it. tua is a different story. he looks the same and brisset has come in and played just as well or better. plus tua is hurt again now. im glad the lions didnt tether their future to that guy even if okudah is likely a bust. easier to start over at corner than qb.
-
its amazing how good he looks away from a terrible organization. of course, most lions fans could tell you that he's looked almost this good in the past too, but nobody noticed because he was busy losing in detroit.
-
fields, wilson, lawrence, and jones are all in the bottom 6. if tua had enough snaps, he would be in the bottom 4. his replacement is putting up the same production as he did when he was healthy.
-
stafford currently #1 in dvoa qb rankings. and that's after playing two top 10 defenses (tampa and chicago). goff currently #21 after playing 2 good defenses and the terrible packers defense. there is a big gulf between stafford and goff and you can see why the rams wanted stafford so bad. goff is ok as a (extremely expensive) place holder and potential game manager. but that's all he is. but it could be worse, he could be carson wentz.

nobody would give up anything for old and slow jaime collins? no way! he'll sign with the pats and suddenly be good again. he was bad after the browns signed him and bad after the lions signed him. hmmmm...might be a pattern here.

i think the lions have played pretty well thus far. i also think they have a lot less talent and a lot less playmakers than these other teams and it will take some turnover luck and in game luck to keep them close and when they get unlucky they arent good enough to make up for it. the 49ers were dominating them. conversely, they were taking it to the packers until they failed on a 4th and 1 and goff fumbled, and they should have beaten the ravens. the niners game was a fluke finish. the niners dominated them. but the packers and ravens games were good games the lions played well in and got a bit unlucky to lose. has anyone seen the jets? or the jaguars? those teams are much worse than detroit and arent even competing in the second halves of games. btw, how awesome is it to watch urban meyer lose?

it is possible that the clock on the field was different than the clock on the tv broadcast....just sayin.

a couple things: look who has been coaching the lions. no one i would define as a "radical thinker" other than maybe schwartz, but he never had the temperament to be a head coach. all that being said, the lions should have won that dallas game. it was literally stolen from them. -

i dont think Ras is close to Mantha. mantha was big and very skilled. his problem seemed to be inconsistent effort. Ras gives effort, he just isnt very skilled. i think he has a place in the league as a big center who can get in front of the net and get/give punishment. but a third line plugger isnt what you ideally want from a top 10 pick. mantha is a borderline first line winger. he's much better than ras. -
has there been a worse start for such a highly touted crop of qbs? they've all been terrible except Lance and that's only because he hasnt played yet. theyre all rookies and this is real early, but its pretty striking how bad they all are after hearing all summer how they were all going to be so awesome. especially lawrence. none of them have been as good as herbert was last year. they all look like tua (who still sucks).

its a big season for zadina. hopefully he continues to improve. he was working noticeably harder last season and sometimes you could tell he was the wings' most skilled player on the ice. is it a matter of "the pucks will eventually go in the net" or "he'll be a second line winger at best." -

its not just us! from the athletic season preview: Zadina is 21 now and his first “full” season left a lot to be desired. After two auditions where he didn’t seem to understand the assignment at five-on-five, Zadina continued to struggle mightily last season. He put up a 42 percent expected goals rate, which was the second worst on the team ahead of only Luke Glendening. That’s on a very bad Red Wings team and it’s not like he was scoring much either as he only put up 1.2 points per 60 at five-on-five. At such a young age it’s helpful to look at comps to see that current difference-makers also struggled early in their careers. While there are some optimistic trajectories (Sean Couturier), most of Zadina’s top comps were middle-six forwards at best. That’s better than MRasmussen at least, whose best claim to fame is that he is quite tall. He is 6-foot-6 every time he steps on the ice, but that doesn’t actually make him effective. His play-driving ability was also awful and he scored even less efficiently than Zadina. The large majority of his comps are other very tall fourth-liners. -
they got a little luck from the ravens dropping two wide open touchdowns. they also played really well on the defensive line. no trey flowers and no jaime collins might have helped there too. i thought okwara played an excellent game. bryant had some pressures. some of the dbs showed up too. it was nice to see barnes out there, even if he got abused repeatedly by the ravens tight end. on offense swift played really well. sewell got beaten a bunch but the other tackle held his own. the bears dline will be a real test next week because they are playing really well.

thanks?

good news for the lions: bears offensive line looks god awful. bad news for the lions: bears defensive line looks real good.
