  1. True enough - but it's not only about getting the first, it's about clock management. A run keeps the clock moving.
  2. Statistics show teams blitz a lot more on 3rd down than they do on 1st. If you run & get the 1st, you'd probably have a better look if you decide to "go for the win."
  3. Goff should have never been given the opportunity to make a read or throw the ball. It's 3rd & 1. You're in FG range. There are seconds left. Run the ball. If you don't get the first, let the clock run & kick. If you get it, you can call TO & set up another pass play.
  4. We hired a consultant for our fundraiser this fall, & he sent us a whole box of Buc-ee's. He just raved about what a fabulous company they are.
  5. Minneapolis is the best large airport I've flown thru. Detroit's pretty nice. LAX is hell on earth.
  6. I'm praying for a strong wind out of the north to bring some of those colder temps in. My biggest concern in the game is JJ McCarthy. Even if we have our 2 top RBs back, if JJ has to throw the ball for us to win, my confidence is waning. This WR group was so highly touted, & I don't know if there's inability to get separation or JJ's lack of ability to hit them, but it's not been good for a while now.
  7. JJ has worked the game plans to perfection - Run the ball, Use your own feet if you have to, & pass enough to keep the defense honest. I've felt the entire receiving corp, minus Ronnie Bell, has under-performed - but again, I think that's due in part to the way they're game planning.
  8. As difficult as it's been, I think we're seeing improvement in not only the play & the result on the field, but in how Campbell calls a game. & it's more than just a willingness to move coaches out. There were 4th downs early in the game that I feel like he would have gone for last year or even earlier this year. This time he took the FG, or punted and made the Bears move the length of the field. Having corners not playing the way you want them too & giving the opponents a short field is a recipe for disaster - He has corrected those.
  9. It would be really nice if the Lions blew somebody out once.
  10. Yeah. This is all I've ever done/wanted to do. & living in northern Michigan limits the # of opportunities.
  11. It really is amazing to me the difference in the secondary. That feels to me like the best game a Lions' secondary has played in 20 years. I don't know if Aubrey Pleasant was teaching something differently than DC wanted or if his players just weren't listening to him - It was such a stark difference.
  12. This is a guess, but it could be Hippa rules. You cannot disclose the personal medical information of other people.
  13. I think this is it. I think they've seen how much it's going to cost in FA/Draft to upgrade this defense, & they decided there's no way we can pay that much to a TE, no matter how good he is.
  14. That's a good reminder. I was going to add pushups to my routine as I continue to try to lose some weight, but the rest of the routine has been in tatters since our fall fundraiser - which is 5 days of 12 hour shifts & is a routine killer. If I do add them, it will not be to impress anyone. I don't even wanna look in the mirror & see myself!
  15. I've been thinking Corum too. I love what Swift brings, but this is the 2nd year in a row he's missed significant time. I believe Corum has the body type & strength to succeed & stay healthy in the league.
  16. We have exactly 6 people employed .. All on salary. A very small, non-commercial radio station. After coming from a much larger organization 5 years ago, my biggest ongoing complaint has been the lack of protocol in almost every area. Even some holidays are just given on the whim of the exec. dir., because he wants to feel like he's benevolent. Every ethical bone in my body wants to run & find other work - but my wife & I made this move to be closer to kids/grandkids. That is the one saving grace, but it can get pretty maddening.
  17. This isn't exactly a peeve, but I've got to vent somewhere. As someone who's been in radio for 33 years, I have learned to be careful what I say publicly about struggles in the office. Our executive director is out of the country for 2 weeks. Every time he is gone, almost without exception, our pd/morning guy calls in on the first morning shift. As the asst. pd, it is my job to cover the show. I have no problem with that - I am up anyway & prefer mornings. This week however, he just completely no-showed for his Monday shift. Didn't contact anyone until 1/2 hour after he was supposed to be on the air - & then another hour later texted back & said he still hadn't made it in. He is in incredibly poor health, but what happens now is the rest of us have the inner battle of do we report our supervisor to his boss and risk the consequences of him doing nothing - which is a distinct possibility - or do we do nothing?
  18. It's been pretty much what he was before - He looks good when the Lions are running the ball well & his first-string RB is in the game. When they're not running the ball well, the defenses change & he's deer-in-the-headlights.
  19. I have not been a fan of expanding the playoff, mostly because I haven't been a fan of what the current system has done to the bowl games. I guess I'm a bit of a traditionalist. However, once it became obvious that the playoff was here to stay, & watching how there are about 3-4 power schools that seem to just bounce around in different orders every year, expanding is the only thing that will open that up, & as you said "expand the talent." Couple that with the transfer portal, & teams should be able to get better more quickly.
