I will predict MBN but don't feel strong about it at all. Wouldn't mind a trade up if Demidov falls.

The Sharks didn't extend Zadina a qualifying offer, talk about fumbling the bag betting on himself and terminating the Wings deal. If I ever start feeling too good about myself I'll bring my Zadina jersey out of the closet to remind myself that I am a moron.

20234-24 14-68. Now what? (The 2024 Offseason thread)

This is probably a dumb question, but do NBA teams trade first round picks for multiple second round picks often? I was kinda surprised to see that that was the goal with the trade, but I also am NBA-illiterate so I apologize in advance for my stupidity. -

I feel like that Draisatl trade hamstrings the Wings more than it helps in the end, but what do I know. Ideally to me, they would wait out the Oilers and ultimately send prospects and picks instead of roster players like that. I would ship off 2-3 top prospects and picks for him. -

I wonder if the trade(s) would have been better received if it was just one trade with one team, say just all Preds: Gibson + Walman for Kiiskinen (or insert mid tier prospect with some intrigue). Probably still some push back but I think it would have been less without seeing 2nd round pick going out for future considerations? -
Semi-interesting even if it wasn't the second rounder the Wings sent them. Probably kills any pipe dreams in regards to future considerations being involved with the Sharks' and Wings' mid first round picks.
-
I wonder if part of it is because Kenny didn't want to be there when it's time for the Draisaitl and McDavid decisions come up, but probably just my own conspiracy theory. From the rumblings I see it seems like there are going to be teams who want to bring Holland in, good luck to them.

It also just hit me while working out that your post was a great joke that originally went over my head, bravo haha

It is amusing to me that Suter has now been bought out twice by two different teams

God I worded that badly in my work induced rage (yesterday was a doozie for me), I really meant nothing in my message was of value as it was unnecessarily catty and didn't add anything to the conversation. Probably without knowing was getting frustration out! I wanted to delete it but there was no option lol. Anyways, don't want to clutter up the conversation with my annoyance born out of my crappy IRL coworkers so ya. Wish I could have just deleted my post there.

Meh editing this, done with the conversation as nothing of value is being discussed. Enjoy!

This is a....very interesting logical jump. I'm not sure how you equate future considerations to an actual concrete asset in a trade when looking at the reality of NHL trades. But go off I guess? All Longgone and I are trying to say is that in trades that actually have happened in the NHL, future considerations more often than not turn out to be nothing. I am happy to listen to any counter-examples you have where teams did what you're suggesting, otherwise it just seems like that is what you want to happen....

Not super thrilled on Gibson either... -
lol okay, people can get their hopes up but I'm struggling to come up with an example of future considerations turning into anything substantial. You have anything to back up your call or just your random gut feeling? I used the $1 example because that's what the Wings paid to acquire Kris Draper...

I'm more than okay with losing Walman, he didn't play well last season and seems to have fallen out of favor with the organization being demoted to a third pairing then healthy scratched a bit. I'm just more shocked it took a second round pick to get rid of him since his contract is pretty fair for what he should bring to the table. I don't know if he got complacent after getting a multi year contract or what (he always did seem to rate video games above hockey in interviews that I've seen) but the Wings were definitely done with him for some sort of reason, and it seems like the rest of the league realized it too. One of the interesting theories I've seen on future considerations is either the Sharks claiming someone on waivers and sending them to Detroit or the Sharks claiming Holl on waivers to bypass his 10 team no-trade list (which most certainly has the Sharks on it). There is also buzz about Sharks agreeing to not draft someone the Wings want at 14 right ahead of the Wings. In the end I think they're fun theories but "future considerations" is just going to be a $1 or nothing at all.

I am absolutely shocked that they needed to include a pick to dump Walman, let alone trade for one to make it happen. San Jose wouldn't just take him to get to the salary floor??? Matt Roy time? -

OH MY GOD WHAT ARE THEY DOING -
Agreed, I'm still kind of shocked. Mostly because after ASP there isn't much on the right side in the pipeline (Tuomisto I guess...) so it makes me wonder if they have some sort of deal in principal with a free agent RHD or want to use the pick in a bigger trade.....or both?! Apparently they really liked this Finnish kid last draft too, seems like he could be something.

Wheeler on our newest prospect after the trade, from February as Nashville’s 10th best prospect and Nashville as the 8th best prospect pool: Finland’s captain at times with their U18 team last year, Kiiskinen really impressed me at the fall 2022 Five Nations in Plymouth, where he was in on eight of their 12 goals, led the team in points and shots, and showed both skill and a respectable work rate. He was also one of the more productive players in Finland’s top junior league (which included a 20-shot hat-trick performance) and had real chemistry with countryman Jesse Nurmi on a line internationally throughout last year. This season, though he didn’t make the Finnish world junior team (he’ll be a top-nine winger at the Ottawa tournament next year), Kiiskinen was Finland’s best player at the U20 Five Nations in February, has played almost exclusively in Liiga this season and has lit up Finland’s junior level in brief loans. He’s dangerous on the flank and point on the power play because of his shot (both a quick wrister and the one-timer on his off-wing) but also a willingness to use his shot as a decoy into a pretty compelling passing game. He plays hard and gets off the flank to finish plays around the net. He has a pro frame and strong balance on his skates playing through bumps. But he’s not a quick north-south skater (due in large part to short, almost stunted stride extensions) even though he evades defensemen with cuts and stop-ups to change directions and has looked a step quicker this year. He’s also got a pro shot and deft handling skills, with a knack for having the puck in good spots a lot and a confidence flipping the switch to attack mode. That includes skill at catching and giving saucer passes and good dexterity around the net on tips and redirects. He doesn’t turn 19 until the end of August either, giving him good runway to become a productive Liiga player and then come over to North America to try to work into the call-up conversation in the AHL eventually. My only complaint about his game is that it can lack pace at times. This is the point in Nashville’s list where the players’ odds of making it get a little longer but I’m a fan of his game and felt he was a worthwhile third-round pick.

Maybe they think they can get a higher upside player with this draft's second rounder but I'm going to delude myself into thinking it's a precursor to a big move haha. The forward doesn't sound too bad though. -

Gibson was probably a second pairing defender at best in the NHL but he had a nice OHL system and RHD isn't super flush in their system...........Yzerman setting up another move now with two second rounders?? -

What the ****. I know we have a lot of defense in the pipeline but I liked Gibson as a prospect. News about Kane seems to be that his agent wants 3 years on the deal, Yzerman only wants to do 2. -
Super interesting (and encouraging) to see Buch in Detroit training with other prospects. Usually with the KHL / Europe schedule he doesn't come over.
