An interesting day in the NHL already, Kings really botched the PLD situation

Red Wings 2024 Off-Season Thread
slothfacekilla replied to Mr.TaterSalad's topic in Detroit Red Wings
I don't rate Laine very high so I wouldn't want to trade for him unless it is basically nothing or comes with a pick attached for a salary dump and even then I'm not sure he fits what the team wants on the roster. I think I would give Necas $7m but it is a gamble on him being in that 70 point range and not 40-50's getting out of Carolina's system. -
20234-24 14-68. Now what? (The 2024 Offseason thread)
slothfacekilla replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Pistons
I'm shocked they did it but it seems like the right move for sure. Didn't they have to cut Hayes just so Monty would stop giving him so much run time? It seemed like his rotations were a mess and I don't even know basketball. -
Mildly shocked since I believe Markstrom turned down a trade to the Devils last season (and for anyone wondering I would guess he'd turn down a trade to Detroit). Return is a future first (draft after the upcoming one) and a 23 year old D prospect. So would probably be like a future first + Johansson or maybe Tuomisto. Not a huge overpay but decent amount for a 34 year old goalie.

Tkachuk puts in all that effort only for OEL to give up on the play and let McDavid gather the puck unmolested, classic

Word I've seen is that the Wings would have taken Bouchard if Zadina wasn't there anyways. Still would have worked out way better...

Two more seasons of Buch in the KHL

I'm not a big Craig Button fan but he somehow has Catton sliding all the way to 15 to Detroit which would be unreal https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/canadian-nhl-teams-in-the-spotlight-in-craig-button-s-latest-mock-draft-1.2135788

Red Wings 2024 Off-Season Thread
slothfacekilla replied to Mr.TaterSalad's topic in Detroit Red Wings
I think you sort of have it nailed here. I think if they wanted to they could still go sign good players in free agency (they have some expensive RFAs waiting but still have about $30 million in cap space right now), the problem is in this salary cap world good players rarely hit free agency and if they do they tend to get overpaid so it really can be tough to build through free agency. So they are kinda stuck waiting for their young guys to take those next steps all things considered. I don't consider them in a cap crunch or anything though, the cap should go up in the future too. -

I don't think he's worth as much as being a cornerstone of a trade, but another team might be desperate for scoring and already have their defensive game well set or another GM might think they can make something out of him (or maybe just doesn't care that he doesn't play defense). I just don't think he has potential superstar value at all but I think some team will give him a chance in the NHL next season since he won't clear waivers. But GM's make bad trades all the time... -

I would lean towards no but it is a tough call, I'm glad I don't have to make that decision He doesn't go to the corners or win board battles and he doesn't play defense. His offensive output just isn't good enough in the NHL to make up for his lack of defensive game/being soft. -

It is a shame the Wings didn't just draft Necas instead of Rasmussen ugh. Necas would be an amazing add, someone will probably give up a lot for him. Aren't the Canes in a cap crunch? The part about wanting a player with star power back is kind of odd if that's the case (unless they think they can get a younger comparable player?). I'm not super excited about this upcoming draft after digging into it a little bit so 15 overall would definitely be in play for me in a potential trade. I'd be inclined to include Augustine in a trade instead of Cossa if possible, and probably push for a defensive prospect not named ASP instead. I don't think Yzerman would give up the farm either way and I am curious how solid Seravalli's intel even is. -
Ya they are just using this for a season while fans vote on their real branding, which seems to just be an elaborate way to build a big email database for the team's marketing department 😂. I feel like more effort could have gone into it (it seriously looks like something you'd get from a website you found googling "free sports logo"), but in the end it won't really matter since it is temporary.

Need a new Goalie (work with me here)
slothfacekilla replied to AlaskanTigersFan's topic in Detroit Red Wings
It is a bit tough to say since "true" #1 goalies don't get traded very often. I think your proposed deal is too rich honestly, probably looking at a first round pick + a mid tier prospect. Edvinsson to me is worth more than their current first round pick since he's NHL ready and still on his ELC. I'm sure the Wings would rather include someone like Johannson or Wallinder along with a pick since they have a decent amount of defense in their system. https://www.spotrac.com/nhl/transactions/_/start/2021-05-28/end/2024-06-11/position/g/type/traded Darcy Kuemper at the 2021 deadline got a 1st round pick + a former second round pick. Probably the closest thing I saw at the above link. If you go back to the Leafs acquiring Freddy Andersen a while back he fetched a first and second round pick. Markstrom is probably the best goalie available but he has been pretty up and down and is already 32 years old (older than both Kuemper--though he was 31--and Andersen for those trades). A bunch of other teams are rumored to be interested as well. With Cossa having a very strong back half to last season and Augustine waiting in the wings, I would be shocked if the Wings ponied up for a goalie via trade especially in a bidding war. Brossoit could be a decent option on the free agent market. I expect the wings to sign someone like Stolarz to pair with Lyon for a season then Cossa in the NHL the following year, something along those lines. -
Ya I'm kind of shocked at some of their rankings here, it should be interesting to see how these stack up after the draft because I'm not feeling super confident about them. Writeups are still super interesting but still...

he seemed to really come alive last season, would be a good potential pickup I think -
Here's their top 32...kinda surprised they have Hage at 40

Screw the Capitals, cry poor when they have to build a new arena but have the money to buy a site just to shut it down. Losers. https://puckpedia.com/ PuckPedia is probably going to be the replacement that emerges

Time to do some research!
-
I think McKeen has some respect in the industry but I'm not too familiar. The rankings seem about right for their system.
-
Seeing some rumblings that ASP might come over to North America next season instead of staying in Sweden, like a Leo Carlsson situation where he was supposed to stay but ended up coming over to the Ducks.
-
Ya I expect Iginla to be gone by then too. It does sound like a lot of defensemen should go after Celebrini so that hopefully will push some higher end forward talent down to the Wings pick.
-
I think MBN might be gone before the Wings' pick with how he played at worlds or whatever they call it. Eiserman scares the crap out of me since he seems to be all offense zero defense.

Agreed, a Zegras type player should be who the Ducks are trying to acquire not ship out, so I'm really curious as to what has gone on. I can't say I've seen much of his play over the last season or two though. I do remember hoping the Wings would consider him in the draft but I'm very happy with Seider haha. I think without looking into how he's been on the ice, my guess is that the Ducks are seeing if someone is willing to give up way too much for him (listening to offers versus actively shopping him). I don't see Yzerman being the GM to overpay for him, but I guess stranger things have happened. I really don't know what to make of the situation overall though.
