The Wings front office is notoriously tight lipped but we've still been hearing plenty of rumors that they're poking around in the trade market, I think he's trying. Outside of a couple teams, the standings are fairly tight so there might not be too many selling teams at this point of the season. Something needs to happen somehow though. At a minimum I would have said call up Lombardi but he got hurt. Maybe call up Cossa just to see him but maybe you don't want him behind this defense right now. I turned last night's game off pretty early on, with the way they were playing it didn't seem like they had a chance to win. The Wings really needed ASP to keep his hot start going (and for Edvinsson to be alive) if they wanted this group to look half-way solid every night. Crappy teams like the Predators look like worldbeaters on offense against them. But hey I had fun playing Arc Raiders last night, so that's cool. -

Soderblom has been making some solid plays tonight, getting more from him would be big -

Cat stays hot with a nice power play goal, 1-1 in the second -

He has the best face off percentage on the team, surely another team can fix him! -

Part of me hopes that some of the scratching is to keep him from getting hurt so he'll be included in some trade (cmon some dumb gm has to see a tall first round pick reclamation project) but it probably is just that he sucks at the nhl level. -
Tralmarks and Shine had hat tricks. Looks like Lombardi is hurt again

Petry is currently holding down 14 and a half minutes per night on the Panthers, so it isn't like the Wings are the only team with these "issues" -

My guess on the Holl vs Hamonic decision is that the Wings want that roster spot eating PK minutes as a crease clearer and be hard to play against. Hamonic theoretically brings that stuff to the table, whether he can do that in practice at this stage of his career is up for debate though. -

Well my Holl post was a joke so I feel bad that you wrote a long post off of it. I do disagree that Holl passes any sort of eye test, to me he largely plays fine and then is responsible for really weird mistakes and busted coverage. He isn't as bad as people on the internet make him out to be, but I wouldn't say that means he's "good". There's a reason he's been buried in the minors two seasons in a row and no one wanted to claim him. Ya his contract sucks but I'm sure the Wings would be giddy to trade him with major salary retention, if nothing more than to get rid of a veteran contract in GR because right now they have to rotate sitting veterans because of the vet rule in the AHL. Slotting him in instead of Hamonic is really just moving deck chairs around on the Titanic. Wings are probably trying to showcase Gustaffson hoping he plays well enough that a team gets desperate with injuries. Wallinder probably gets the AlJo treatment where he makes the Wings when he has to pass through waivers. But I don't know anything, just guesses. -

We're in a dark place when we're pining for Justin Holl in the lineup -

They called up Gustaffson so you have to think he gets in for one of these two next game -

Thought Bernard Docker looked pretty solid early on this season but god he looks awful now. Him and Hamonic both are having bad games, missing Edvinsson really shows how bad the d depth is. -

There are very few players I would swap for him one for one that’s for sure. What a snipe by Cat in ot, wow. That Raymond goal was pretty too. -

Finnie has had three great chances in the first here, the CBJ goalie is making great saves -
Seems like Twitter is down right now but Plante had a natural hat trick (and a five minute major for boarding!) last night, he leads the NCAA with 26 points in 15 games so far this season (13 goals, 13 assists). https://www.duluthnewstribune.com/sports/bulldogs-hockey/max-plante-gets-hat-trick-to-lead-umd-to-victory Bear seems to be heating up after getting his groove back, 2 goals and an assist for him last night.

No it does not, before this season Cossa was a better prospect than Wallstedt based on their body of AHL work to date. Wallstedt has largely looked not good before this season from what I've seen. I don't see much value in making sweeping generalizations about drafting or development based on either the past AHL seasons or 7 NHL games this season. Is it possible that Wallstedt ends up being better than Cossa? Ya for sure, and he's looked good so far this season. But goalies are strange and it is 7 whole games. -

Cossa was up and down at the back half of the last AHL season, so it was tough to give him any sort of guarantee in the NHL this season especially with Talbot being old/an injury risk. Fans especially seem to want the team to make the playoffs so it would have been a pretty volatile tandem with that in mind. Goalies usually take time, I'm not personally worried with his timeline so far especially with him playing very well in Grand Rapids so far this season. Askarov was a better prospect than him and drafted a season earlier, and he's just having his NHL breakout right now. I suspect we'll see Cossa at points this season honestly but I'm personally not concerned he isn't in the NHL at the moment. If he keeps up his play I don't see how they don't give him a look some time this season. -
Wow I must really not pay close attention to the NBA, I thought the Lowe proposal was some sort of joke I didn't get, and then I got to the Mitchell trade. I had no idea NBA teams were including that many first round picks in single trades, wild!

Gibson used to be really good on some bad Ducks teams so I was hoping he'd be used to a sub-par defense in front of him. I do think he's having a lot of bad puck luck but he also isn't making many big saves and certainly isn't stealing any games. It's a shame he doesn't seem to have a ton left in the tank but I appreciate the swing by the Wings, there weren't many options out there. I turned the game off when they went down 2-0 last night, they looked really bad. -
I hope Eddie can make the NHL just because he seems like he'd be fun to watch at the very least
