He's been pretty mediocre to bad the last couple of seasons it has felt like sadly. I used to think he was just overwhelmed with the minutes they were asking him to play but he makes some bonehead plays.

Well the Blues strike first on their power play, hope the Wings fight back here.

https://themalikreport.com/2021/10/22/roughly-translated-20-questions-with-elmer-soderblom-via-icehockeygifs/ Some q and a with Elmer, he says he's bench pressing 300 pounds this season 😳

Undrafted guy, been in the AHL for about four years. I imagine he's going to be the Wings' Lashoff type guy the next season or so where he gets the call when they need a roster filler defenseman who can sit in the press box if need be. Mildly surprised Witter wasn't called up though I guess Smith is there for toughness if need be?

Really been enjoying the Wings talk here lately 🙂

To me Soderblom actually has good hands. Rasmussen "had good hands" around the net on the power play in his draft year because he was just being lanky against guys who couldn't stop him. Soderblom makes puck plays with confidence that I don't think I've seen Rasmussen even attempt. Part of it in my opinion is that Soderblom has improved his edgework a lot which lets him try these things at his size. Rasmussen still looks quite stiff despite his overall skating improvements, at least to me. Whether Soderblom can do it against NHL players is another story, but I think they're different players outside of not necessarily being punishing hitters for being enormous. Soderblom was pulling off between the legs power play goals in the World Juniors before he ever really blossomed at the SHL level. I would faint if Ras ever did that. I think that right there just shows that Soderblom knows his body and how to manipulate it a lot better even at a young age. Creating space with your body, using your huge reach, and being able to quickly snap a shot through your legs is quite impressive. Rasmussen's ceiling to me appears to be a shutdown type third line center at best (which I would NOT complain about, he could be a very valuable player depending on how it all works out) and I don't see that in Soderblom's game at all. Hell it seems like Frolunda are sitting him a bit at the end of SHL games even if he scores well earlier in the game. I'm still not convinced that Soderblom will flourish in the NHL but I have a lot of excitement to see them try it. Hopefully he comes over to North America soon.

Gretzky had it.... lost it.... Yzerman picks it up. Great memories!

Carter Mazur is having a strong freshman season Some Hanas highlights there

Looks like Mo skated at practice today which is good. Could you imagine their defense without him eating up the minutes he does?

Man that's a bummer! -
Do we think anyone goes after Benn in any way for the Larkin neck cross check at the end of last season?
-
I did previously at least, usually if I stop posting in the middle of a game it's because I've moved to the couch and figure mobile won't work haha
-
Well Columbus sure dominated that period and the shots reflect it. Hopefully the Wings regroup and can put in a better effort in period 3 and win this thing.
-
Boqvist picks up a rebound and it's all tied up in Columbus
-
BJ's make it 2-1, missed the goal due to work.
-
Greiss making some key saves to keep the Jackets off the board!
-
DDK over the glass penalty oof, cmon PK
-
Ras looked pretty relieved that went in, nice to see him get a good bounce. 2-0 good guys!
-
I'm not a huge fan of Ozzie doing color myself Larkin makes it 1-0 as I type this and I miss it!
-
I laughed pretty hard at Veleno running into Greiss after his hard backcheck, it looked like Greiss was thinking what the hell is this kid doing?! Good to see the kid hustle back after Seider made a bad play in the neutral zone.

Apparently he looked really good: Detroit Red Wings 2021 first-round pick Simon Edvinsson is already playing to rave reviews at the U-20 Four Nations Tournament. He posted two assists in Sweden’s 5-0 opening win against the Czech Republic. A source, with ties to the Swedish team, told Detroit Hockey Now that Edvinssson “was a monster” in the game. “He looks better than Rasmus Dahlin did at the same age,” the source said. “He has the same offensive game and is much stronger.” Simon Edvinsson, 18, plays at high-caliber level for Frolunda in the Swedish League. He has one goal and eight assists for nine points in 16 games. He owns a +7 plus-minus. The 6-foot-4 defenseman suffered a minor injury, but it wasn’t serious enough to keep him out of the Four Nations Tournament. Edvinsson will play for Sweden’s U-20 at the World Junior Championships. Edvinsson is a full-service defenseman. He plays physical, is mindful of his defensive play and carries the puck with authority. “You have to go back to Victor Hedman to find a comparable Swedish D-man, aged 18,” the source said. “The Red Wings have a gem in Simon.”

Hronek just basically took a slap shot into the crowd trying to clear the puck on a penalty kill. Hit a woman (seemed like pretty hard) and took a penalty, yikes.

I promise they were playing well at the start haha
