  1. Or just don't throw him a hanging curveball.
  2. If the Tigers had been as healthy as the Royals have been all year I’m pretty sure they would have similar records. As it is, the difference is only 4.5 games. I still like the Tigers future better, although Detroit has no one like Bobby Witt.
  3. Tigers tied with Houston for best record in AL over last 70 games (basically last 50% of season played to date). Also tied for best AL record since July 1. Also from August 1. They have done this with one of the youngest teams in MLB. To think that it’s premature to invest heavily in the team starting next year is, frankly, malpractice. The opportunity is there. I hope Illitch/Harris seize it.
  4. Right in track for 7-10, right TP fan.
  5. 8-31 against Oakland since 2017.
  6. I remember that game. Listening on the radio in Chicago, where the signal wasn’t always that clear.
  7. I guess scouts have seen Rainer play in the Complex league or whatever they call it, because showing up on these prospect lists (and at 28?) doesn't make much sense otherwise, especially for a kid right out of HS.
  8. Interestingly the Orioles had losing records in July and August.
  9. Tigers with 7 top 100 prospects on BA list: Jobe, Clark, McGonigle, Jung, Liranzo, Rainier, and Hamm. Five of these are Harris guys. Add in Lee and that's 6 really talented guys Harris has added to the system in fewer than two years. If Briceno had been healthy he may have edged onto the BA list. Encouraging.
  10. Maybe that hit will get Keith going.
  11. Thankfully we miss Cease.
  12. Lemon hit .300 three times in six seasons with the White Sox. He never reached .300 with the Tigers. But his power numbers increased, not surprisingly. Good ole ballpark effects.
  13. Maeda and Wentz have accounted for roughly 13% of all Tigers innings pitched. They have allowed roughly 20% of all runs allowed by Tiger pitchers. I imagine you could identify the two worst pitchers on every staff across baseball and the ratio might be about the same, but who knows? What's obvious is that these two guys have really weighted down the Tigers staff.
  14. I guess that is why Wentz was warming up.
  15. So was G H W Bush, Clinton, and Obama.
  16. Brookens was my father’s favorite Tiger, for all the reasons you would expect. I knew it was fruitless to pick at his flaws.
  17. So if my math is correct the only RH bats are Ibanez, Malloy, Vierling, Baez, and the two catchers. Not exactly murderer's row against LHPs, but if you are going to lean one way, especially when playing in a park like Comerica, it makes more sense to lean left.
  18. Boesch needed to put up around 125 OPS+ to be valuable. If Meadows hits around league average he will still be an above average player.
  19. He is a plus defender according to Fangraphs. Hopefully he can stay at 2B
  20. Harris seemed pretty adamant that the Tigers were very pleased with the two players they received for Flaherty. Probably nothing but perhaps the Tigers saw something with Sweeney the Dodgers and Yankees missed.
  21. Injuries, or lack of, is an underappreciated reason the Royals have overachieved this year. Their top 5 starters have missed around 5-6 starts total all season. And Massey is the only position player of any note to spend bulk time on the IL.
  22. Nobody dreams on prospects like 1984Echos. Tough break for him that he follows the Tigers.
  23. This is all true. Health is more and more a pivotal factor these days. Look at KC. Not a single meaningful injury all year. Imagine if when we played them last week they were missing Witt, Perez, and 3/5ths of their starting rotation.
  24. Not a single Tiger in tonite’s starting lineup had an OPS+ above 100. Ouch.
  25. He just misplayed the ball. Meadows probably catches that without diving.
