  1. It only took the Tigers 3 games to do what the Yankees and Dodgers couldn't do in three years: fix Trey Sweeney. If I knew how to add a sarcasm emoji I would.
  2. T Sweeney has 900 OPS against RHPs this year, for whatever that is worth. Is he at SS for Toledo?
  3. The Tigers, with their current healthy roster, doesn't look much better than the White Sox right now.
  4. If you look at the Royals lineup it's Witt, early in the season Perez, and then a bunch of guys at or below league average. Timely hitting has kept them afloat somewhat. Since early May they are .500 team. Credit the White Sox for keeping them in the playoff hunt. They are 12-1 against them. .500 against the rest of the league. Lugo signing worked out great. Ragans was a steal. The bullpen is pedestrian. The key, besides 13 games against the Chisox, has also been health. Very few guys have hit the DL. I really don't think long term the Royals are in a better position than the Tigers. A lot has gone right for them. Who knows if that continues next year.
  5. The Tigers have actually hit on a fair number of these deals (Candelario, Paredes, Lange, Olson, Sawyer-Long, Rogers) and yet they can't seem to solve the issues that keep putting them into sell mode. One can hope that next year is last of these deadline deal player dumps.
  6. I agree with this approach. If health holds the offense could be decent, although I wouldn’t be opposed to a 2-year deal for Walker at 1B. Completely agree with your roster strategy for the pitching staff. Will need to spend to shore up the pitching.
  7. Not only did they never win a WS (which can be forgiven) they never won 100 games or were considered the best team in baseball in any particular year. Those were fun years, but, in retrospect, the results were a bit underwhelming.
  8. Sweeney has an OPS just shy of .900 against RHPs. .500 against LHPs. Sounds as though he is a below average SS (although opinions seem to differ) but I'd really like to see him platooned with Javy.
  9. And I believe MLB still ranks the Tigers system in the top 10. So does BA and the Athletic, I believe. Fangraphs seems a bit of an outlier. Seeing Sweeny ranked ahead of McGonigle stands out.
  10. Conflicting info on return it appears.
  11. The fanbase will lose its collective mind if this goes down, mostly because he’s on the DL. Hampton is Fangraphs #67 prospect, so some in the industry are quite high on this guy. But you really hate trading for a pitcher with his injury history.
  12. June 30 I believe. So he's out for at least another month.
  13. McKinstry to the rescue. Probably means Maeda back to the rotation.
  14. How is the depth of next year's draft?
  15. Kelly, traded to a team with a worse record than the Tigers. When is the last time the Tigers made a deadline deal that sent one of their players to a team with a worse record?
  16. Fangraphs rates Keith's defense has average to slightly above average. Maybe they use statcast.
  17. Colt Keith is signed through 2032. I think they will find a spot for him.
  18. Baez's OPS+ is typical of what your average pitcher used to put up pre DH era. Some were worse, some were better. But playing Baez is like giving up your DH.
  19. Or maybe don't walk the No. 9 hitter on four straight pitches.
  20. If they are serious about contending over the next few years they will need to sign a guy like Flaherty. So why not just sign the bird in the hand, assuming he is amenable. And maybe they are trying, I don’t know.
  21. Three years ago the White Sox looked to have a bright future. Now this. Go figure.
  22. For all the kvetching about the offense the Tigers are 15th in MLB in runs/game. They are 14th in runs allowed/game. The epitome of a .500 team. Considering they are one of MLB's youngest teams the future isn't as dismal as some around here think.
  23. The Yankees have two hitters above .800. Every other non-injured regular is under .700. And they lead MLB in runs scored. The Mariners are in second place. Their top regular has a 716 OPS. I'm not arguing that the Tigers are playoff contenders right now, but I don't think they are that far off.
