I’ll admit, these numbers surprise me… From the Wall Street Journal: The former president nearly won a demographic that Republicans haven’t won in at least five decades—racking up 42% of the Latino vote, compared with 35% in the 2020 race and 28% in 2016, according to a survey of voters by the Associated Press and data from the Cornell University Roper Center. Trump very nearly won Latino men overall, garnering 47% support, the AP survey found. The results confirm a trend that pollsters first noticed in the 2020 election: That growing numbers of Latino voters, who for decades have voted roughly 2-1 for Democrats, were becoming far more open to voting for Republican candidates, especially Trump. That has huge implications for both parties. There are now 36.2 million Hispanics eligible to vote, more than double the 14.3 million eligible in 2000. Latinos now are ahead of Black and Asian-American voters and behind only whites.

On a side note, Daniel Lurie has defeated London Breed in the race for SF Mayor. Lurie is heir to the Levi Strauss family. Breed has conceded the race. He’s a native of the city and promises to bring it back to its more appealing past. I wish him well and hope he succeeds.

I commented to my wife twice that her actions are to be commended. Seriously. I thought the political texts were over but no, I’ve received two asking for money on behalf of Kari Lake in her race. I’m going to let you guys take it from here. 🍿

Using your logic it’s as simple as saying that anybody that casts a vote for anyone other than Harris is a racist. OK

You’ll never win with this guy. He is considered extreme in his viewpoints. He IS a good Democrat, but you’d be out of business when you’re appealing to the full electorate for support.

This is the case every election. Most voters never care for specifics. That’s too much to have to remember.

To start, and I’m not trying to be difficult, I don’t particularly agree with the way the question is presented. The sole focus of this question is based on the man being gay. I can’t speak for all of America but I believe most Americans would vote for a person that they can trust to do right by their country. I realize that there are those that will never support a gay person because of their sexual orientation. Voters can, and will, find many different reasons not to vote for certain candidates because of personal dislikes, you name them. It’s doesn’t have to anything to with their sexual orientation. I commented last night, I voted for Chase Oliver of the L.P. He is openly gay. I didn’t vote for him because he is gay. I voted for him because I liked his political perspectives ten fold above the top two primary candidates. I know you didn’t vote for him but I also know it had nothing to do with the fact that he is gay. I don’t know how to put this into words exactly, but it bothers me that some people feel like “gay” has to be a thing, one way or another. For example, you might hear someone say, “I was hanging out with a gay friend.” What would compel you to mention that he was gay? Is that some kind of qualifier or something? Another for instance like, “I was in the store the other day and I ran into this Black guy I used to go to school with.” Why the mention of his color? Maybe this should be in the Pet Peeve thread. Maybe I’m too…whatever. I probably need another cup of coffee.

This from today’s WSJ: In Michigan on the eve of the election, one vivid sign the Democrats were in trouble came at a rally thrown by vice presidential nominee Tim Walz, held at downtown Detroit’s Hart Plaza. The venue can accommodate thousands of people, but the crowd filled only a fraction of the space, according to one volunteer. At one point, campaign staffers asked people to cluster in bleachers that were in view of a camera, so it would give the impression of a full crowd. …you guys didn’t report this?

Where do you think all the money comes from to provide all these goodies listed? Taxes. Who pays the taxes? It’s just reality. Specifics are always helpful as well.

I’ll bet she’d have a better life than most people that voted FOR her as well. 😉

I voted for a gay candidate for president, Chase Oliver of the Libertarian Party. I’d vote for him again tomorrow.

All she did was read from existing scripts on existing policies and such. Again, no track record. And again, I’m not blaming her at all.

In the four years Harris was VP she was invisible. I’m not blaming her for that but if the party thought she was going to carry the torch forward post Biden they sure didn’t prepare her for it. And yes, Biden’s short notice exit didn’t help. Additionally, and this never made sense, why did the party pick the least successful primary challenger in 2020 to be the VP candidate? She made zero traction on the campaign trail and bailed. So who thought bringing her in as VP was a smart choice? And then she does nothing for four years. You could make a legitimate argument that she was set up to fail. Like Trump or not, he was in office for four years. You didn’t have to wonder who he was, good or bad. Harris? No track record in the executive. Only in the past six months or so does it seem she began getting some ‘look busy’ assignments. I will always believe that Harris was an Obama pick, fwiw. Bad move on whoever was responsible.

Like him or hate him, I don’t believe any person above the age of 18 and breathing would wonder what he’s been up to. You’d have to be from another planet to be in the dark about a man that is obsessed over by every media outlet 24/7 for the past 10 years.

Yeah, I can’t see it. Over half the NC registered voters had voted here before election day and I would imagine that story is similar across the country.

Am I the only one that has reservations about bringing Flaherty back? I was all in on the signing last year but I’d prefer moving on from him at this point.

I’d guess this is one piece of the reason. Regaining control of the Senate as well. The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) of 2017 included significant changes to the tax code. Many of these changes were enacted on a temporary basis and are set to expire at the end of 2025. Former President Donald Trump favors extending all the expiring provisions. Vice President Kamala Harris hasn’t been specific, but says she opposes any tax increases on people making less than $400,000, which implies extending some provisions of the TCJA.

The not so silent killer is going to be the deficit. Neither party wants to talk about it or acknowledge it. Left unchecked, there won’t be an economy worth taking credit for.
