This site is becoming almost unusable now for me with all the pop up ads. Is everyone else seeing a big increase in ads?

I hope there is a good showing across the country. I'm just not expecting much from my town.

They've got a No Kings protest in my home town. It will probably just be three old ladies and couple of hippies with signs, but I'm probably going to drop by on my bike ride to see if it's more than that.

I never had a route, but I did my friends route a couple of times. I disliked the dogs who were a lot less tame in those days! Fortunately, I never had to collect.

AI has a lot of potential and some will use it well. I have been able to use it in my work a little bit. Ultimately, you are right though. AI is not going to work by itself and magically makes things better. No matter how muxch we hear about "machine learning", people still have to design it and manage it and know how to use it. There will be some good in it, but I fear most of it is going to be garbage in and garbage out and it will be primarily used to serve the needs of of corporate billionaires.

It really doesn't matter what they call the parade. Holding an expensive parade after gutting the government supposedly to cut the deficit is incredibly hypocritical and insulting. What do we need a military parade for? Everybody in the world already knows we have the biggest, most powerful military in the world. It's not North Korea.

I subscribe to nothing online unless I am going to use it frequently. That means baseball-ref and fangraphs for me. That's it. Sometime I want to read a Story in The Free Press of News, but it's just not worth it for me. The Tigers news will get to me eventually. If I miss a story about about how Jackson Jobe's grandma taught him how to throw a curve, then so be it.

It seems like every time Trump is President, we have these big riots. I don't remember that happenbing under Biden. Is it it because Trump deliberately creates division and chaos?

It does get stuff wrong. I sometimes use it to write Stata programs for me. It can do it faster than me, but I need to check it to see if it is right. It has a ways to go, but I see it getting better fast. I expect that there will be life changing improvements in the next few years. I expect it will be a lot more accurate and efficient than than humans in time. I worry more about ethics.

I believe AI is going to be more of a reality than people having self driving cars. It's already starting and growing at a fast pace. In one small example, I already see it very much changing education. Students can do most of my assignments using AI. It's now a constant battle between realizing students need to know how to use AI if they are going to survive in the new world and making sure that they work independently enough to learn the material and not plagiarize. None of my students use google anymore. They use chatgtp or something similar and it's a lot different. I no longer discourage it. I feel like it's very important that they know how to use these tools because knowing how to use these tools effectively and ethically is going to be more valuable to them than pretending they don't exist.

If he was knowingly bringing illegal employees to employers on a regular basis, then he and the employers should be punished. However, unless the immigrants were kidnapped and forced to work, that is not the type of crime which shoud warrant an ICE emergency which takes resources away from more violent crimes.

I think one reason it is done is to throw off the opposition by having he opener pitch with the opposite hand of the starter. They can't load up their line-up with left-handed hitters against the right-handed starter if the opener is a lefty.

It's concerning for multiple reasons. One is the potential for mass unemployment. Another is many of the people making the decisions will not understand AI well enough or not care enough to make smart decisions about what jobs can be cut which may lead to a lot of errors which do a lot of harm to people. That's just scratching the surface. One thing is for certain though. AI will primarily be designed to make the rich get richer while the gap between the wealthy and everyone else continues to grow.

I know there are many who now consider 1947 to be the beginning of modern baseball, but I don't believe that has been made an official designation
