  1. Even Manning has not impressed me much. Even when he is healthy, his performance is off and on. Skubal is very impressive. He just needs to stay healthy.
  2. I was actually going to say Mize, Manning and Turnbull but I though it was too subtle. Anyway, I would be willing to bet that none of Mize, Manning and Skubal becomes Verlander or Scherzer. They are far more likely to become Fullmer, Boyd and Norris. However, I am hoping they fall somewhere in between.
  3. The youth on the left don't remember any of them and don't care. That's different from the elderly on the right who still talk about Reagan. The left wants progress. The right used to want everything to stay the same. Now it wants regression back to the 1950s? Or is it the 1860s?
  4. Why did they not realize they could easily get free water during devastating droughts? I think Trump sometimes says stupid stuff like this just for attention, but the amazing part was they all cheered.
  5. Jung Hoo Lee. His season ended with an ankle injury, but should be ready for Spring training. Should fit right in with the Tigers! Seriously though, great OBP guy who hits for average, walks more than he strikes out, speedy, great defender.
  6. There aren't a lot of relievers who dominate every year, but there are a lot of guys who are good for a year or two. The Tigers finally seem to be good at identifying and developing those guys, so I am not too worried about the bullpen. They have a number of promising starters, but I keep coming back to the idea that they don't have one pitcher on their staff that has been dominant for a full year.
  7. I prefer to look at what they did for the full season. If we take what they did this year and transfer it to next season with the same number of innings, they would still need a lot of help.
  8. I don't have confidence that the current state of the staff will carryover to next year. It could be just a matter of timing of injuries and hot streaks. None of Skubal, Olsen and Long, the main reasons for their good second half, have succeeeded for a full season. There is also the problem of the first half stats which were bolstered by two pitchers that probably won't be with them next year.
  9. I don't know if it's a strength. They are middle of the pack in most statistics. They have gotten good contributions from a lot of pitchers, but they have a hard time getting pitchers to succeed for a full season. Until they can do that, I wouldn't call their pitching a strength.
  10. I am assuming that it was planned from the beginning that Greenberg or someone like him would be brought in at this point. I am expecting a much more active off-season this year and will be critical if it's not the case. Then again, I might also be critical if I don't like the moves!
  11. I think most of the young hitters won't prove themselves next year. If there were good hitters available, I would want the Tigers to pursue them. The reason I want them to pursue pitchers is it seems as if there is more of an opportunity to acquire pitchers than hitters this off-season.
  12. He's at the level of ace short-term, but he needs to show he can pitch for a full-season before he's considered an ace.
  13. Depending upon the return, of course, I'd be inclined to keep Skubal. The only reason to move him would be injury concerns, but other teams surely have the same concerns.
  14. Every GM will get criticism. I think Harris has received relatively little and I don't think he should have gotten much criticism at this point. I do think if Harris or Greenberg or whoever is considered responsible for building the roster will receive more flack if they don't make significant moves with all the money coming off the books this off-season.
  15. You have to understand, For people like me and Edman, seeing arbitrary end points is like getting kicked in the nuts.
  16. Unfortunately, That is all I remember about him. It wasn't until after he retired that I realized how great he was. There are probably kids growing up today that are having the same experience with Cabrera.
  17. The MAGA peaceniks are very proud of "no new wars under Trump". So, why do we need a huge military if we aren't going have wars anymore?
  18. What did happen was that he was a replacement level player for seven years padding his counting stats. The 500/3000/600./300 numbers are just arbitary cutoffs designed to eliminate guys like Ruth and Williams while keeping Cabrera in the group. Cabrera was a great hitter, easily the best Tigers hitter of my lifetime. However, he is nowhere close to an all-time great like Aaron or Frank Robinson. At one point, he looked like he was going to end up in that class, but he didn't have the lasting power. There is noting shameful about being in the class of Frank Thomas and Jim Thome though.
  19. What they need to be doing is cutting budgets across the board by cleaning up government waste and inefficiency, not cutting services to people who need it.
  20. It's that kind of crazy hatred of every Republican President which makes it hard for the left to be taken seriously when they say crazy (but true) stuff about Trump. I disliked pretty much all of Bush's policies, but he was nothing at all like psychopath Trump.
  21. I don't know. I haven't seen any minor league games the last couple of years. I hope the reviews are quick. The reviews they have now in the majors often drag on too long. Football reviews are the worst. In the rare cases which I watch games, It seems like every big play at the end of a game needs to be reviewed.
  22. I think the last 7 years were worse than pedestrian, but he did enough prior to that. What the last 7 years did was change him from an elite Hall of Famer like Hank Aaron to a surefire but not elite Hall of Famer like Jim Thome or Frank Thomas.
