  1. Frank Tanana taking over the whole show. I like it.
  2. Todd Jones has let himself go. Too many peanut butter sandwiches.
  3. Joe Castiglione has made that work for 40 years in Boston. I don't care for him, but he's very popular.
  4. No, I wouldn't offer him 4 years. He is better than what they have, but not worthy of a long-term deal.
  5. I think that is the opposite of what he would have done. I think Avila was pretty consistent in his goal of acquiring and retaining young players. He just wasn't particularly good at it and he was bad at other things such as free agent signings.
  6. There are always things going on behind the scenes that fans don't know about and they are more informed than us. That was true even with Avila. However, that does not mean everything they do is in my interests, nor does is mean that they never make mistakes.
  7. I understand that. I did not like the Candelario move when they made it, so I am being consistent too. I think the Paredes move gets less push back because most people liked the move when it was made.
  8. That was his best year though. Candelario did that in his worst year. I agree none of this stuff really matters, but this whole discussion started when people were defending Harris/Hinch for not having a decent 3B because there was nobody available. The fact is they already had one which is the main point I've been making on this topic the last couple of days.
  9. He had more bWAR in 2022 than either Maton, Vierling or McKinstry has had in their careers.
  10. You can also keep track of the posts saying that he is 3rd in majors in WAR among third basemen. 😃
  11. 2020 - Candelario led the Tigers in WAR 2021 - Candelario led the Tigers in WAR 2023 first half - Candelario has more WAR than any other Tiger. You know, I don't really care that much about Candelario, but I have a difficult time understanding why the majority of posters here seem to be trying to convince the minority that there is no possible reason why the Candelario would have been any use to the Tigers at all this year.
  12. It's better to just let him go and get nothing.
  13. I still don't think I would have noticed a significant difference on Twitter if everybody wasn't talking about Musk. Maybe I just don't use it enough. But if a new site can destroy the little bitch and still give me the news I want, then I am all for it. I am going to go wherever Tigers fans and sabers gather.
  14. They've been telling me Harris is a genius.
  15. I'll take the player having the better year. If he doesn't fit in the future, then trade him.
  16. Candelario is having a better year than all the role players they acquired. I'll take the better player every year. The only baseball reason to let him go was they didn't think he'd do this well.
  17. I agree. I just won't let anybody insult my adopted Tiger.
  18. Cabrera hurts the team every year now. When you've got a manager who mixes and matches as much as Hinch, you can't have a replacement level DH on your bench. And don't talk that away about my adoted Tiger Justin Malloy. He'll be at least as good as Raburn.
  19. Then they would have made a similar trade with someone else because I don't think there was any chance they were keeping Soto.
  20. He told a fan to get off him yesterday. I don't see how scolding fans can ever turn out well for a beat writer.
  21. Yes, I think they would have made the Phillies trade. They still needed depth which Vierling provided and Maton was supposed to provide. I also think if they knew how good Candelario would be this year, they would have kept him (and then traded him at the deadline). They gambled and lost (but saved some money!)
  22. The Tigers are 25th in the majors in RA/G, so run preventon has also been a problem. Their bullpen has bailed them out a lot, but their run prevention would be a lot better if Skubal, Mize, Manning, Turnbull were healthy and living up to their potential which is pretty substantial collectively. It's probably unreasonable to expect all of them to succeed next year, but I think that is their only possible route to a quick turn around. Their offense is terrible and I don't think any amount of mixing and matching will make a big difference. They need better players which means young hitters will have to develop or they'll need to acquire position players outside the organization. I am curious which depth players you think they need to tap into more?
  23. If the Central Division remains week, it doesn't have take three or more years. If (and I know it's a big if) the Tigers get their pitching healthy, they can contend sooner than that.
