  1. He's 32 years old. I bet if they offered him two years, he would have taken it. I think they just weren't focused on relievers. If he had not opted out, they probably would have traded him.
  2. If the morgue offered him enough money/years, I bet he would have taken it.
  3. Maybe he really wanted to play in Arizona, but I think he over over estimated his value at the time of the opt out. It seemed like a good move at the time. I thought he'd be able to get a two-year deal.
  4. I am confident Chafin would have made himself available to the Tigers at some price. He said he wanted to stay in the Midwest so he would be close to his farm and then he went to Arizona who made the best offer. The Tigers didn't want to pay whatever price it would have taken to sign him. I think adding relievers was not a priority of Harris during the off-season. I don't really fault him for that.
  5. Ibanez has 1 hit in his last 40 at bats. That is a .025 batting average. They might as well let the pitcher bat instead.
  6. So, go for the high OBP and high SLG and don't worry about batting average.
  7. Still can't hit lefties, but the Tigers like to platoon so they can carry a hitter like that more easily than they could in the past.
  8. One of the rare times lately that the Tigers bullpen couldn't keep the lead late.
  9. There will also be days when you don't get a lot of hits. In fact, it's easier for players to consistently get walks than to get hits. Average is OK, but above average is better. Above average contact is also good.
  10. That seems to be one of Harris's big themes and he did get rid of most of the players that can't walk. Still only average for the season, but they were LAST in 2022. On the pitching side, they have allowed the second fewest walks in MLB.
  11. That will always be funny. It even beats the Delmon Young videos.
  12. I believe he will too. He needs to do so if he is going to have a career as a regular first baseman.
  13. If they made the picks now, I think they'd have to go with McKinstry and Rodriguez. You can make a case for Greene, but I think they wouldn't take him due to lack of power.
  14. Ceiling usually means what someone is potentially capable of doing rather than what they actually do. By most accounts, Torkelson's cein\ling is higher than .240/20/75. Whether he actually reaches his ceiling, of course, remains to be seen.
  15. He has gone through some periods of a few weeks at a time when he has been decent, certainly better than what Wentz is doing now.
  16. I am thinking he could be one of these late bloomers that is effective a couple of years and then fades away. That is probably his best case scenario. He's 28, so he is probably already past his peak defensively. His history is that he was good at drawing walks and getting on base in the minors. He couldn't do that initially in the majors. He's doing it this year. Walk rates usually normalize quickly, so I am hopeful this is not a one-month blip.
  17. I am a Liberal, but If Trump ran as a Democrat, I would vote Republican. Before you say that is a ridiculous scenario, consider that he used to be a Democrat. He'd be a Democrat again if he thought he could win as a Democrat. Also, it's really stupid to say that every Democrat is a POS. I don't think every Republican is a POS.
  18. No, he won't hit for a .388 OBP forever. A second baseman with a .340 OBP with average fielding can be a regular. I am not assuming he will do that, but his walk rates in the minors and this year suggests he has the potential to do it.
  19. This year, so far, he is looking like somebody that could be a regular starter. Kelly never did.
  20. They could also be doing that now! He has been walking consistently though which was my concern in his previous MLB trials.
  21. I don't really think of facebook as a news aggrgetor, but that's probably because I blocked all their "news" a long time ago. It's harder to do that on twitter. I mean you can avoid it but not without some continuous effort.
  22. With the Tigers closing in on first place, I don't think Harris is going to allow the weak spots to just keep playing. I can see him making a minor trade for a Kerry Carpenter type (preferably right-handed) who isn't going to be a long-term regular, but can play a role. Or maybe there is another McKinstry out there
  23. The biggest network in the country (Fox) is far right wing. The biggest social news network (Twitter) is now right wing. The second biggest network (CNN) is now owned by a right winger and recently aired a complete Trump rally which last more than an hour.
