  1. But isn't that what all Republican Presidents are paid to do? It was easier for Trump to do because he had a 100% Republican Congress.
  2. What makes Trump appealing to fiscal conservatives? He hasn't been fiscally conservative his whole life. He has always been in massive debt (the king of debt) and then he added hugely to the national debt as President. He also imposed big tariffs and then bailed out corporate farmers when the tariffs failed.
  3. Is that a real video? It looks doctored, but I've seen a couple different versions of it and they look the same.
  4. Trump would have no problem running as a Democrat if he thought he could win.
  5. Then we can pump them and talk about how much depth is in the system.
  6. I think they lack talent. Bad hitters can't adjust. They hit just as bad before the organization stated focusing on staying in the zone.
  7. So, McKinstry still can't get on base at the base at the major league level, but he's one of their leading sluggers. Take what you can get, I guess
  8. Nobody on the roster is projected to have an OBP above .325, so there really are no other optuons.
  9. Doesn't being an asshole and not caring about people make him a good MAGA candidate?
  10. I do think the current franchise is in better shape than it was after Smith was done. On the other hand, the general drafting process has a little more certainty to it than it did 20 years ago, so it is a little easier to draft now. I think the difference between Avila and Smith was that Avila seemed to have an overall plan (although executed poorly). Not only did Smith execute poorly, but he never really seemed to have a plan.
  11. Matt Anderson may have been the dumbest #1 pick in MLB history. I remember being excited that they had the first pick in the draft. Then they signed a relief pitcher? Not a starter who might wind up as a relief pitcher, but just a relief pitcher! I couldn't believe it. Now, the Jobe pick was less than brilliant, but at least his upside was not relief pitcher.
  12. Apparently, the baseball gods didn't give Randy Smith many gifts. 1996 Seth Greisinger Right-handed pitcher University of Virginia (Charlottesville, Virginia) 6 [42] 1997 Matt Anderson Right-handed pitcher Rice University (Houston, Texas) 1 [43] 1998 Jeff Weaver Right-handed pitcher California State University, Fresno (Fresno, California) 14 [44] 1998 Nate Cornejo Right-handed pitcher Wellington High School (Wellington, Kansas) 34§[g] [44] 1999 Eric Munson Catcher University of Southern California (Los Angeles, California) 3 [45] 2000 Matthew Wheatland Right-handed pitcher Rancho Bernardo High School (San Diego, California) 8 [46] 2001 Kenny Baugh Right-handed pitcher Rice University (Houston, Texas) 11 [47] 2001 Mike Woods Second baseman Southern University (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) 32§[h] [47] 2002 Scott Moore Shortstop Cypress High School
  13. Yes, it was an easy play, but the somewhat impressive part was that he made i look easy and natural. Most major leaguers can make that play, but some would look awkward playing out of position.
  14. The string of first rounders under Smith was absolutely comical. All he did with Detroit was make one pointless trade after another. As bad as Avila was, I think Smith as worse.
  15. Who is going to be Trump's evangelical straight man VP if he wins?
  16. Fox News fired some of their extremists today including Dan Bongino. I remember a friend on facebook begging followers to read his link to Bongino. I went to the link and it only took me 15 seconds to figure out he was a grifter.
  17. But stock funds, which are streakier than bond funds, have historically done better than bond funds long term.
  18. I think consistency/versus streakiness could go either way. It all depends on timing. If his streaks happen when his team needs them (when his teammates aren't streakng enough!), then the streaky hitter could be more valuable in a given year. If not then he could be less valuable in a given year. In doing projections, you don't know what the timing will be, so WAR is your best guess. Do we even have a measure for streakiness? I did some work on that a really long time ago in other life and then passed it off to Bill Petti who did some more with it, but I don't think it's tracked anywhere. It seems to be mostly anecdotal.
  19. Or maybe he would have made a similar move with another team for players who were equally promising.
  20. which is pretty much where the projection sytems had him at the beginning of the season. I looked up Paredes (the great one who got away) and Candelario just yeterday and noticed they were similar.
