  1. I think consistency/versus streakiness could go either way. It all depends on timing. If his streaks happen when his team needs them (when his teammates aren't streakng enough!), then the streaky hitter could be more valuable in a given year. If not then he could be less valuable in a given year. In doing projections, you don't know what the timing will be, so WAR is your best guess. Do we even have a measure for streakiness? I did some work on that a really long time ago in other life and then passed it off to Bill Petti who did some more with it, but I don't think it's tracked anywhere. It seems to be mostly anecdotal.
  2. Or maybe he would have made a similar move with another team for players who were equally promising.
  3. which is pretty much where the projection sytems had him at the beginning of the season. I looked up Paredes (the great one who got away) and Candelario just yeterday and noticed they were similar.
  4. I remember that too. I wouldn't vote for him, but I don't hate him. I compared him to DeSantis (who I can't stand) only because he is someone who was the presumed favorite but never got off the ground.
  5. They kept talking about Rubio in 2015-2016 and he never got anywhere. He just got humiliated by Trump and MAGAs loved it because they love seeing Trump humiliate people. DeSantis seems the same to me.
  6. It's funny seeing politicians try to be the cntrolled version of Trump because his supporters like that he is out of control.
  7. McKinstry can draw walks and get on base (although he hasn't done that much at the Major League leavel to this point) and play defense. Castro didn't really have any assets other than versatility.
  8. It is interesting to hear someone outside Boston describe Rice as charasmatic, as Lynn was seen as the charasmatic one here. Both were awesome in their primes though, even if that didn't last too long. Evans was just the opposite. He was like the lou Whitaker of the Red Sox, really good for a long time, but never regarded as a superstar. I'd put him in the Hall of Fame over Rice.
  9. The gun nuts have already started with their "you can't ban assault weapons because you don't know what an assault weapon is".
  10. I believe he has the athleticism to handle any outfield position, so I don't think CF would be any more difficult than a corner for him. His fielding ability, in general, seems to be the question. I have not been watching on a regular basis and am just going off reputation.
  11. Yes, I have heard gun rights people talk about satefy and responsibility in gun ownership before. I would imagine some of them might not like it when people trivialize gun ownership such as wearing tee shirts glorifying guns or making a family Christmas photo where everyone has a gun. It seems that the country is getting further and further away from responsible gun ownership all the time.
  12. I run/bike on trails like that all the time. I always get a little nervous when it goes too close to a house. 1. I feel like I am invading their privacy (even though I don't leave the marked trail). 2. What you said.
  13. I have done that more than once in my life - especially as I get older! It last happened when I was tired after a hike in NH. I tried to open a door of a car that looked just like mine. It only lasted a second before I realized what I was doing. This was open carry no license MAGA country, so my first thought once I figured it out was, what could have happened if the owner saw me. It was maybe an irrational thought...but maybe not.
  14. They don't have a very tough looking roster. They mostly look like pampered boys that played for travel teams and then got scholarships to top baseball universities. However, Foley has a pretty good name for a brawler. He's not strong and scary like Willie Horton but he'll be the first one in there throwing punches.
  15. Wow, the local GOP politicians are all trash too.
  16. Unless they are somehow in realistic contention at that time, then yes.
  17. Hopefully, he doesn't get hurt or disinterested before the trade deadline.
  18. I don't think there is any smart way to support conservative cultural crap. There might be ways to talk intelligently about financial/economic stuff, but I don't think Disney is about that.
  19. Baez is the MVP because they have started winning since he returned from his benching.
  20. He was 3rd in Win Probability added behind Maton and Foley coming into today. Could be #1 now.
  21. Deuce has the goods on Bally. He can help you out. The question is what can you do for deuce?
  22. A red flag of him not being as good or as ready as his numbers suggested?
