  1. I believe that is a big part of the reason. She deserved some kind of response, but butch is a derogatory term. If a Republican used it against an unattractive Democrat, Democrats would be all over it.
  2. I believe you are right. I also think it is really difficult to compare today's pitchers to pitchers in the 60s and 70s because the environments are so different. It's hard enough comparing hitters from different eras, but pitchers are used so differently today that it's really not even the same role.
  3. 1971 Mickey Lolich pitched twice as much as the even the more durable pitchers today which made him more valuable. It's apples and oranges, but I don't think you can say he had the same rates from game to Skubal has had which is what Randy was talking about. And you wouldn't have expected him to given his workload.
  4. I think injuries are the most common reason why players - even young players - have slumps. I also think staying healthy is one of the most important skills a player can have. If one player has a slump because he is out of it mentally (also a skill) or because of random variation instead of an injury, it's still the same result. Lets say Cabrera's slumps were due to injuries as you say (and you are probably right). That doesn't make him any better than another hitter who slumps for other reasons. It's still a bad overall performance. The sum of his skills at the end of his career were not helping the team. As for Ibanez facing a RHP, Cabrera was hurt as often as Ibanez faced a RHP the last few years!
  5. Celebrities can say whatever they want just like everyone else. The media should stop giving them attention when they stay stupid things about topics they know nothing about. They won't though because stupid quotes are worth big money to them.
  6. The stock market rising is ALWAYS good. I loved when the stock market rose during Trump's presidency. It had little to do with him just as the current rising stock market has little to do with Biden. I will say that the Dow Jones is a stupid measure. It's just that they don't have SP 500 5300 caps!
  7. AOC was appropriate in her comments. People here are defending Crocket because she is a Democrat, but her comments were cheap and crude. I mean it it was humorous, but I'm not going to defend it as appropriate.
  8. She is smarter (the bar is low) but it's hard to call someone sophisticaled when use the term "butch"
  9. Crockett's response was no more mature. LOL
  10. Ibanez can do that too.
  11. Me neither, He had not been good for years and the last two years he was terrible - a DH who couldn't even hit league average.
  12. I was going to say that, but there are libertarians who believe that is the only thing that should be funded by the govt as it is their only role.
  13. Conservative's favorite group of people - the police - is funded by the government.
  14. "Socialism" is now just a word people use for anything they don't like.
  15. Is there such a thing anymore? They play by the same rules, every team plays every other team and the AL is no longer superior.
  16. Baez's decrease in ISO over the last three years is remarkable: .229 .155 .104 .056
  17. Gunnar Henderson!
  18. How much would they have to pay you to watch Baez?
  19. Gibson did OK in his second run with the Tigers. In his last season, he hit .260/.358/.449. His performance would make him one the best hitters on the current squad.
  20. They are doing about what I expected. I thought there was a chance they could do better if they had a break out from some young hitters, but it hasn't happened. I don't know if I am encouraged, but I an not disappointed or surprised.
  21. That Fielder photo is one of my all-time favorite Tiger photos. I remember seeing it in the local paper and thinking how cool it was to have the slugger on the roof where he hit some of his most majestic homers. His first season with the Tigers was really special. Having a relative unknown coming to the Tigers and hitting 50 homers in an era when that just didn't happen was magical.
  22. I played baseball, but my love for baseball started before I really played it much. I was mostly a box score and radio fan as a kid, so it was the numbers that drew me to the game. Other games have a lot of numbers now too, but I don't how many fans get into basketball/hockey because they love the stats. Probably not as many as baseball, at least not initially.
  23. Offensively maybe. Defense would be more difficult. The end result is there are probably available shortstops better than Baez, but probably not so much better that the Tigers would be tempted to eat his contract.
