  1. That is probably the biggest problem, but another thing is there are a lot of advisors who try to pressure people into poor investments because it benefits them.
  2. Using social media for advice isn't usually a good idea. but part of the problem is there have been so many dishonest financial advisors working for dishonest companies that people don't trust them anymore. Financial advisors are useful if you can find the right one though. I currently have a self directed account which is good because I do most of my planning myself without paying fees, but I have access to advisors who can do things like find the best short-term CD for me.
  3. This guy can hit! Maybe, he can change the Tigers offensive indentity. 😀 Or maybe the Mets, Yankees and Dodgers can stockpile more talent. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/01/kbos-kiwoom-heroes-to-post-lee-jung-hoo-after-2023-season.html
  4. "You guys?" I hope I am not included in that as I never mentioned politics at all!
  5. You can't make blanket statements about any generation. Every generation has a lot people that are irresponsible when young. Maybe the generation that came before the boomers is the exception. They got no breaks at all going through the depression and then WWII. Every generation after that thinks that they had it tough and that the younger generations are too soft. Let's see where the current young generations are at when they grow old.
  6. It's always been a big thing, but more so now. You can never ever have too much starting pitching!
  7. My question is: Is that a generational thing or an age thing? The boomers weren't a particularly reponsible bunch when they were younger either ! Young people are unsettled and irresponsible and then they grow up and complain that young people suck!
  8. Yeah, I don't think they'll finish .500, but they should do better than last year.
  9. The Tigers had everything go wrong last year and still won 66 games, so I don't think they'll lose 60
  10. It would bother me. The Tigers need to get away from that player profile- no walks and no plus skills. Try something else.
  11. It reminds me of Jack Morris talking about Ohtani with a bad Chinese accent, except I don't think that was premeditated, just stupid. His apology the next inning was even dumber, comically so. "I apologize to Jose Ohtani." LOL
  12. Kim is interesting. Maybe take a flyer on Grisham if he comes cheap.
  13. While am skeptical of the Tigers prospects, I do think amateuir scouting has advanced a lot since the Smith era, thus increasing the chances that a weak organization can draft the right guys based on consensus.
  14. They had a sign at the register saying they would be able to lower prices if customers paid by cash and another sign saying cash onlyh The store has been in operation since I was a kid, although the ownership has changed a few times. I have seen some cash only stores in small town NH, not in Massachusetts before.
  15. The worst may be yet to come...Although I would bet that the full 2023 will be a lot better than 2022.
  16. Interestingly, about an hour after I posted this, I went to my favorite local market to pick up some milk and eggs and they have a new cash only policy. They also have stopped selling lottery tickets (a great move as far as I am concerned!). I am not sure if that is related.
  17. For the time being, I have chosen to have faith that Harris has a plan and will be better than Avila. You are right though that Avila would be laughed at for what Harris has done so far this off-season.
  18. That's the thing. I don't think the really big businesses will. The banks and big business will win. The rest of us will lose.
  19. I do almost everything on a credit card now. A lot of clerks now get visibly pissed off when I pay by cash now because they don't have enough bills, change in their machine. I just figured I was an old man who wasn't informed that cash is now frowned upon.
  20. Maybe, I just expect big corporations (whether it be the credit card company or Amazon) to find a way to screw me either way. Smaller companies are different. I am happy to get the rewards because if I don't, I suspect Amazon will find a way to to charge me more anyway. Maybe, I am just too cynical.
  21. It's probably a scam for those who don't pay in full every month. However, I pay in full every month, pay 0% interest and I get rewards. Losing the rewards wouldn't destroy me, but it would hurt a little.
