  1. I agree with that. If they don't think they can fix him, then they should nontender him. I don't have enough information to know that. Just based on numbers, I would say he is a candidate to rebound. This just became a moot point as I typed it!
  2. OPS+ in his three good years: 133 137 121 There are some limited PAs in those years, but he led the team in WAR in 20 and 21, so he was arguably their best player those years. The Tigers payroll is so low right now that if they drop him mostly based on cost then I am going to be very pessimistic about their future.
  3. I don't understand why people are so down on Candelario. He was good in 2017, then got injured, was good in 2020-2021 and then bad in 2022. He seemsd like a good bounce back candidate to me. I wish they had someone better, but I don't see him as someone that HAS to be replaced yet.
  4. I don't know about versatile (since he is a poor infielder), but he did OPS .932 over 140 PA in 2020. It was flukey and ridiculously BABIP influenced, but Clemens has not come close to that. I actually have little hope for Castro, but there is a slight ray of potential.
  5. Verlander will go in as Verlander. He has done enough with both franchises so that each can claim him as their own. I am very much into baseball history and the hall of fame but I don't even think about whar cap players have on their plaque. I think of the Hall of Fame as an individual honor rather than a team honor.
  6. He called me boring about 10 years ago... He wasn't wrong!
  7. yeah, that is a very real problem. At least, we don't have to see the name on the line-up card.
  8. They will get better healh care than any of us. They may not have a great quality of life much longer, but they could be around a really long time.
  9. I only got snarky with people like Tyrus who deserved it!
  10. I haven't followed him closely in recent years. A lot of the sabers from that period were snarky know it alls which I don't think helped the saber movement. He wasn't one of my favorites, but I don't remember if he was worse than others.
  11. This is interesting. Cameron never seemed that brilliant, but he worked hard and was ubiquitous on saber social media. He reached his dream job. Good for him.
  12. We come pretty close to that where I work!
  13. I can see him doing well in the prmaries, but losing the nomination to DeSantis and the response will be predictable.
  14. Wokeism makes assholes gravitate to Trump. It is annoying to moderates, but I doubt it makes them vote for extreme right wing Republicans. Even if it does make some of them to do so, it gets cancelled out by the annoyance of the anti-wokism reponse.
  15. Trump lost his token Black female. She's upset because he was rude to her and won't ever admit he's wrong about anything. LOL
  16. My mother liked McGovern. My father thought politics was stupid. I am a mix of the two.
  17. Trump is neither moderate nor conservative. He has no political philosophy at all. His only interest is himself. I still maintain that if he thought liberals would fall for his act, he would have originally run as Democrat
  18. I know that white dudes like strong men. What's hard for me to believe is they can't see that Trump isn't that.
  19. White dudes still like him. It's everyone else that is voting against him. I am with you of course. I have never ever seen any good in him at all and have never understood why so many have fallen for his act.
  20. yeah, that's a problem. They won't though because he gets them clicks.
  21. He hasn't gone away since he started running his mouth back in the 70s, but I think he's got to lose some political relevance at some point if he keeps losing. I think the lack of violence might be fear of God.
  22. Another thing that happened is that this site became more sabermetrics oriented and in my experience it seems that conservatives tend to be less interested in sabermetrics. (And yes Edman , I know there are exceptions!) Thus, it might be that some people left because they didn't like the sports discussion as opposed to not liking the politics.
  23. I remember thinking this was a pretty conservative board at one point. I tend to be liberal, but I don't support any party and am not very knowledgeable about politics, so I didn't comment much back then. Three things happened when Trump came along: (1) Some of the smarter conservatives left because Trump is a nut job and a fraud and not really a conservative but rather an egomaniac who is incapable of thinking beyond himself. They couldn't defend him and they still disliked the other side, so there was nothing left for them, (2) A few people started becoming more liberal for various reasons (3) Most of the conservatives who actually supported Trump were just trolls who didn't contribute anything. Thus they were chased away. I think if the Republican party drops Trump and gets back to talking serious issues again, you'll see some conservatives return and there might be good debates again.
