I am now mostly out of the market and am invested more in short-term treasuries and CD's. I'll check back in a few months. I'll be 60 in two weeks - getting a little old for the buy and hold forever strategy.

Tigers Hire Scott Harris as President of Baseball Operations

They also need to figure out whether the pitching injuries are bad luck or whether they are doing something wrong. -
The rapists, muderers and free loaders are doing pretty well for themselves. Maybe, that is what people really fear. https://www.marketwatch.com/articles/u-s-latinos-gdp-is-the-worlds-fifth-largest-51663871190?mod=mw_latestnews

Did Scott Harris reference OPS+? -
I am fine. I am just insanely busy at work and not posting as much, even not a lot baseball posts. Like many people, my investments are not fine, but I tell myself that I am right back where I was in Spring, 2021 and I wasn't unhappy about my investments then. I did pull some money out of the market and bought some short term treasuries. I might do some more of that very soon before it completely goes to shit. Of course, if I do that, the market is going to surge!

Right, If they don't hit the ball, moving in the fences is just going to help other teams more. -
There really isn't anything to tear down! The only players worth anything are young players who would be part of a re-build.

Other possibilities are improvement by young players and better health.

Two other possibilities is beginning of divisional play in 1969 and the beginning of wildcards in 1995 (followed quickly by interleague play in 1997). The process of turning baseball into a generic sport rather one unique from other sports has been a significant change for me.

The Cardinals seemed to have picked his spots this year which is smart. It's not a strict platoon, but he is crushing LHP: .363/.405/.775. Last year with the Dodgers was similar.

I have seen that definition of modern baseball most frequently, but is it still widely recognized as such? The Hall of Fame considers anything from 1980 forward to be contemporary and anything prior to be classic. I am also seeing more and more people refer to 1947 as the beginning of the modern era.

Then he spent the next several months taking unnecessary shots at Granderson. I never understood that.

Babe Ruth 284% ahead of the runnerup in 1920. I couldn't find anyone higher than Judge recently. Jimmy Foxx 41% in 1932 and 1933 was the highest I found going through it quickly.

Charboneau was a legend! He was 25 when he did it though. I would bet that there are more 25 year old one year wonders than 22 year old.

No kind of mental health problem deserves scorn. Mental health problems are real and many people have no more control over their mental health than they do over their physical health.

I am currently listening to the 1977 Tigers broadcasted by Ernie Harwell and Paul Carey. It is so soothing and brings back so many memories. -

Speaking of Kreidler and the chemistry lab, Cowan's post reminded me of almost failing physics lab. I had never failed a class in my life and surely did not want to repeat it. The teaching assistant looked like George Brett and I knew I was in trouble when some student told him that and the guy didn't know who George Brett was. Then, every week we'd come to lab and we'd ask the TA what we were supposed to do and he would say "I have no idea". I was not good at any kind of lab, so I watched what other people were doing on the lab and half assed my way through lab reports. I thought for sure I would fail, but I passed. George must have graded the lab reports. -

It's going so well I totally forget about the September call-ups until I saw their line-up today. That has never happened as far back as I can remember. Being insanely busy at work this week didn't help, but that wouldn't have stopped me in the past. -

He's got a good face though, an infielder's face. He's got a Travis Fryman vibe. -
Great! I got 2.75% and they called it a merit raise! Most people got less.

Watch the media start being nicer to Trump as he gets in more trouble. He is worth big bucks and they need him.

I played first base for six years from 11-16. I looked for the runner to do that every time. It never happened which says that even young kids know the rule very well.

That was an odd trade. They traded Fister for Ray and then pumped up Ray like he was next big thing. Then they moved him fairly quickly for Greene who seemed to be less highly regarded.

The Tigers were active that December: December 5 - traded Robbie Ray for Shane Greene in three team trade. December 14 - traded Porcello for Cespedes. At the same time, there was a report they were also about to acquire a starting pitcher from the Reds to replace Porcello. There was a lot of discussion about who it might be. I remember hoping it wouldn't be Simon. December 14 (later) - traded Suarez for Simon. I wasn't too worried about giving up Suarez, but I didn't really like seeing them give up any decent prospect for Simon. I don't remember any outrage, but I remember a lot of people didn't like the trade. A BABIP debate followed.
