  1. I am neutral on Hinch. I don't think he is a problem. It just seems like a lot of fans think he can do no wrong and they want to blame everyone but Hinch for the team's problems this year.
  2. If he has weaknesses, they probably already know about them. I believe the reason some players strart out strong and then quickly fade is that pitchers don't want to waste all their high stress pitches on a rookie and they want to see if they can get him out with less than their best. I am not saying this is what's happening with Carpenter. I am speaking in general.
  3. It was probably not genuine, but I also feel like some working class people who self identify as conservatives are socially conservative but not really so economically conservative. They may view poor peple as lazy and not wanting work, but they can also see that their employers don't treat them so well.
  4. AJ Hinch is the best. He won a World Series with the Astros.
  5. Speaking of Baugh, anybody remember when Kenny Baugh was a top 100 prospect? Prospct lists!
  6. Fetter will turn him into a good reliever. Then he'll have TJ surgery next May.
  7. They are 13th in baseball in GIDP. Their GIDP per opportunity may be pretty high though.
  8. Trump has never read the constitution and has no idea what the fourth amendment is.
  9. True, but I don't think the rest of that team, was on par with Hinch's teams in Houston.
  10. No, we can't. But many of the same fans blaming Coolbaugh and Avila are assuming that Hinch is blameless. He may very well be blameless. but we don't know that.
  11. I think defense has always been underrated by fans because there is still no really reliable way to measure it.
  12. Leyland's teams had bad bullpens every year. It's hard to win 100 games when your team has any glaring weakness. Anderson won 100 games four times and 98 or more games 7 times with stacked Reds and Tigers teams. In 1989, his team lost 103 games because they had no talent. It's all about the players.
  13. Sadly, all his followers think the same thing about him. Probably about a third of the country. Incredible.
  14. I also don't think he is the reason they are bad this year. It's just that so many hitters have underperformed and it's odd that the the GM and batting coach get blamed, but the link between the coaches and the front office is is unquestioned.
  15. I think they didn't get too harsh because they knew other teams were doing the same thing. They wanted to use the Astros as an example because it became public. Also, they didn't want to have to punish the Yankees or Red Sox. I agree with you that how Hinch handled the situation does not reflect well on him as a manager.
  16. My best customs exchange was with a very friendly and attractive customs person. Customs: "What are you doing in Canada?" Me:"I am going to an Expos game" Customs: "Who are they playing?" Me: "Detroit Tigers" Customs: "Who is going to win?" Me:"Tigers" Customs:"Of course you think that. I think you are wrong, but have a good trip" That was in 2002. They used not to worry much about Americans visiting Canada. Getting back into the US was more difficult.
  17. And this year he'll probably prove he can lose 100 games with any roster, a roster where almost every position player failed to meet expectations. He won so many games with Arizona that they fired him mid-season.
  18. According to B-Ref WAR, Meadows is the Tigers 4th best position player this year!
  19. Is he still having trouble with vertigo or is it his achilles? The snippets I have read are vague.
  20. I wasn't saying that was their entire role. Of course they are not fantasy baseball owners. I was just pointing out one of the main differences between managers and GMs. Managers can only manage the players they are given. GMs, along with the rest of their team, provide those players. It's like any other big business. There isn't just one person doing everything. I am sure there is also a lot going on that fans don't know about. I am just a fan though, so my main concern is what players they provide to the team.
  21. Managers are different in that they don't really select the players and are very dependent on the talent given them. GMs do select the players so they have more control over their success, although there can certainly be a lot of luck involved.
