  1. I think the default assumption is that someone owed $30 million dollars will play and get payed. Anything else would be an upset.
  2. I hope it doesn't. I'd have been happy if he was done a few years ago. His first nine years were awesome - the best Tigers hitter of my lifetime by far. The last six years he has been a replacement level DH.
  3. How many players from the 2022 team could play for the 1984 team?
  4. Good point. That will likely be the middle infield next year. I think Schoop will bounce back next year. Some players drop off a cliff when they hit 30, but it seems like that is usually accompanied by injuries and declining defense which definitely hasn't been his problem. Without doing any research, losing it offensively without losing anything defensively seems atypical.
  5. Shortstop is the strongest free agent position again this off-season, so it would make some sense.
  6. Despit his throwing problems, Baseball Savant still has Baez at +3 outs above average. EDIT: The OAA stat only measures range.
  7. I generally consider a lot of talk to be a negative, but his talk is so insightful that I consider it a positive.
  8. Fans pump up prospects too much and are then are too fast to write them off.
  9. It's surprising that they brought him up at all given that he batted .132/.270/.245 in July.
  10. Same as it's always been. You don't want your young pitchers racking up 130 innings in starts, but I don't really see pitchers being healthier today than the used to be. All the protective measures don't seem to be keeping pitchers healthier. Medical advances are healing pitchers a lot better than the old days, but they are still getting hurt in great numbers.
  11. I can't really say that Avila is as incompetent as people say. I don't know enough. I just see other re-building teams seemingly making more successful trades and acquiring more international talent and wonder why the Tigers lag behind. After several years of re-building, the results are disappointing and I think it's time to move on.
  12. One could very easily be a good scout and poor GM which I suspect is the case with Avila.
  13. He's a Yankee and he's white, so it's totally legit.
  14. There does not appear to be any correlation between team home runs and strikeouts. The Tigers definitely lack home runs though.
  15. In the last 20 years, there are 11 teams with higher strikeout rates, so he was wrong about that too. There are too many strikeouts in the game today, but it's everybody, not just the Tigers.
  16. That's what I don't get. I get why people hate liberals. I get why people hate government. I don't get why so many fall for this fraud of a human being. It's so obvious that all he cares about is himself. Why can't people see that?
  17. And all they got was a pitcher with three last names.
  18. Yes, each game is the same, but that is not the point. Getting back to championships, if the Tigers make the playoffs five years in a row (yeah, I know that's crazy!) they are more likely to win at least one championship than if they only make the playoffs once in five years.
  19. Correct. We do not have a justice system. The wealthy and powerful have their own set of rules.
