  1. Catchers are undrerepresented in the Hall of Fame in part because they don't have as many plate appearances as players at other positions.
  2. That is possible. I think something similar might have happened to Whitaker and Trammell (initially).
  3. MLB.com says that Barry Bonds is the leader. Some say it is Josh Gibson.
  4. It seems like if there is any question about whether a prospect can stay at a position, they usually wind up moving down the spectrum more often than not. However, you are right that Greene is an example of someone who did not.
  5. The draft is always BPA regardless of your organization's current players. Also, my impression of Meadows is that he is the type of prospect you want to watch, but not one you pencil into the future starting lineup.
  6. Even more so if you live in Massachusetts.
  7. Wowza. What would that be age adjusted?
  8. I think it just means .985 is a really high sluggng percentage. Amateur stats mean very little, but one can still marvel at the magnitude of a stat regardless of the relevance.
  9. That is a legit concern. The only good thing that has been done during the Manfred years and they are going to **** it up.
  10. That sounds more fun as I have become very Tigers-centric.
  11. Immaculate grid pisses me off, but I keep on playing every day! I feel like I should do better and know I would have done better when I was younger. I get some 7s and 8's, but can't quite get to 9 even though I always feel like I am on the verge.
  12. Hodges is a good comp. He was considered a god, but that because he played for the over rated 50s Dodgers.
  13. It doesn't really fit with McGonigle though.
  14. He didn't hit for a high batting average other than the one big year, so he wasn't recognized as a top hitter. I think he would have been valued more in today's game.
  15. If the Tigers are going to be the kind of organization that is not willing to sign a couple of good players, then it's going to be really depressing to be a fan. I'd rather not think about that.
  16. I was just looking back at the Nashua Rosters. They had an AA team from 1983-1986. I saw future major leaguers like Devon White and Bobby Bonilla, but the guy I remember the most was Reggieeeee WEST! He had a good season for them, but never made it to the majors. I also remember Biiiiiiiip Roberts. The cool thing about Holman Stadium is that it was the home of the first racially intregrated team of the 20th century. Their roster included Roy Campanella and Don Newcombe. They later had some independent teams (which is when I saw the Cansecos), but could not support a modern affiliated team.
  17. I loved when Nashua had a AA team (first the Angels and then the Pirates) and I went frequently. So, I wouldn't be surprised if we were at one of the same games. Those were some of my best ballpark experieces ever. It was before minor league games were popular, so the crowds were not large and it was all baseball. A minor league game was not a circus with non-stop music and sounds and all the silliness between innings. Some of that stuff is fun but they over do it.
  18. My favorite is Ed Irwin, but I'll let Boom tell the story.
  19. That's why they call him max.
  20. Good stuff, no command. Could be a reliever some day. Got to have a couple of them.
  21. If you don't like Carson Rucker, you don't like ice cream.
  22. The Tigers are back on the Wilsons again.
  23. I don't like the idea that we aren't supposed to criticize anything that teams do because they know more than us. However, I think the gap in knowledge is much larger when it comes to amateur players. All most of us have to go off of is second hand scouting reports and an few video clips. Once players have been around for a while, I think the gap narrows somewhat.
  24. I knew a kid named Titsworth in school. As you can imagine that kid never heard the end of it. "Hey Jim, How much are you tits worth?"
