Is inflation the recession? People are employed, people are eager to consume after two years of Covid and businesses are doing business. The problem is that inflation is killing consumers and killing profits.

interesting chart. The thing is though that inflation has been kept under control (although I don't think they are that honest about inflation) until the last two years even with a low interest rate.

Benintendi said something similar to Chafin with repect to whether he would get a vaccination if he went to a contender. Bill James really seems to hate Benintendi. I am not sure why? I don't think it's the vaccine. I could see him supporting a non-vaxer just to be contrarian. Sometimes, I think he likes to get people riled up.

I don't think anybody knows how far they have to go up, but I don't think there is any reason why they would have to catch up to the inflation rate.

That is what I expect too. The only thing is young healthy good starting pitchers are rarely on the market, so there is some chance Avila's asking price will be matched. Again, not what I expect.

I agree we should not wish bad things on people who refuse to take the vaccine. Most people who don't take the vaccine are not being jerks. They fail to take the vaccine mostly out of fear and ignorance.

Rooting for your favorite team to lose is the opposite of optimism.

I hear that type of argument a lot, but some pitchers don't last that long after surgery. They can get hurt again or even have a second surgery. I don't know the numbers on the long term success rate. I also don't think it's inevitable that all young pitchers will have it.

Thurmond, Eric Show and Dave Dravecky, three fifths of the Padres rotation, were members of the John Birch Society. I remember reading that and thinking nothing of it and it never became a big deal. I can only imagine what social media would do with that today. -
It said they were willing to trade just about everyone. That is not the same as trying. really, what is there to tear down?

I think he is a relatively poor GM and I wish they had a different GM, but I don't think every move he makes is automatically going to be awful. His past history suggests that in cases like this one where the Tigers have some leverage he is more likely to ask for too much than too little.

Probably Greene which will be one less reason for watching the Tigers that series.

Maybe down in Texas, but I still think that angle is a bit off. Abbott is running, not the doctors.

I agree. There has been a feeling that Avila asks for too much for his starters. If that's the case, then the worst thing that happens is they turn him down and he stays with the Tigers. Since there is no need to trade him now, that is fine.

OK, I get that, but the Brewers don't have a history of making bad trades. We don't even know if the Olson trade is bad yet. Norris was a good prospect a while ago too.
