  1. For me, it was: He was the best player on the team in 2020-2021 His career OPS+ was .723 which is around league average He was still under 30 None of that guaranteed a comeback, but there seemed to be a good chance he'd be at least an average player at his position which you couldn't say about every position on the team. I'm not surprised at what he's doing this year.
  2. I think Malloy will be in the outfield most days. They need to have him learn a position before resorting to a DH role.
  3. Incaviglia was perfect for that kind of thing. He had been doing it his whole life and he knew how to do it right. Phillips was crazy, wanted to leave Prince in the locker over night. Incaviglia told him: "This is just for fun. You can't do that. I know we did that to Scott Livingstone but Prince is just a kid."
  4. For now, I am thinking more along the lines of a Jo Adell type player (I don't know if it's him, specifically). If Harris is the genius he is purported to be, he should be able to identify break out candidates which he can acquire relatively cheaply. That's what we need to find out about him.
  5. I haven't really been to restaurants since 2020. I used to go to restaurants sometimes on the way home from work, but now I work at home most of the time.
  6. Where is Tommy Brookens when you need him?
  7. Well, they can't acquire free agents now! They could trade prospects for young players already in the majors now, but it would need to somebody that can help them the next couple of years as well. I don't know who is available.
  8. Too early. Let's see what they have for pitchers by the end of the year and then add Mize next year.
  9. I don't want to see another five-year re-build where they lose 95+ games every year. I was never on board with that. You always want to be reasonably competitive because you never know when you might sneak into the race in a given year...like this year. Trades and free agents should both be on the table.
  10. They will have to do that anyway, but they should still try to be competitive in the weak AL central.
  11. Martinez is no joke joke this year - 6th in the majors in slugging. Of course, you don't want to get stuck with a multi-year deal for a 37 year old.
  12. On the other hand, he hasn't had a .700 OPS since 2018.
  13. Camargo? He's not much, but he can play third and has a decent track record: .723 OPS in over 1,300 major league plate appearances.
  14. Sean Casey made good scopps at first base too.
  15. How about above replacement level?
  16. Inge would be one of their best position players on this team.
  17. It looked like he belonged as a role player at the time they acquired him. He's been terrible this year, but I couldn't fault the acquistion at the time.
  18. I didn't want Castro back, but I did want Candelario. I was also OK with Maton as a role player with a chance to do more. McKinstry and Vierling have worked out so far, but not Maton.
  19. So, the Republicans were right about something.
  20. I noticed Farmer was available in my fantasy league when I needed to stream a random reliever recently. I decided against adding him because I figured he'd give up 4 runs in one inning if I did.
  21. The GOP definitely are not the ones complaining abot the electoral college. They love it!
  22. Yeah, that was one of the anecdotes, although it didn't have much of an impact on me at the time he was coaching. My interest in the history of Blacks in baseball is more recent. I don't know if he identified himself as "Black", but he surely faced all the same prejudices at the time.
  23. Ozzie Virgil was one of those guys who did nothing of value during his playing career, but I heard about him forever because he was a coach for 19 years. Because I heard his name as a coach and many anecdotes about his playing days, I thought he must have been a decent player, but accumulated negative WAR over a span of 14 years. On top of that, his son Ozzie Jr played 11 seasons and actually was decent which confused things even more.
  24. He doesn't even need to campaign. His fans adore him unconditionally.
  25. It won't matter. Trump will just call him fatty and humiliate him and if that doesn't work he'll probably have someone come up was some dirt on him. All he has to do is say that Christie is a child sex trafficker or something and his supporters will all believe him. Maybe if a large number of high profile GOP leaders find some balls and go after him relently en masse, they might start peeling away some Trump voters at the fringes. It can't be just one guy here and there.
