  1. The Tigers were lucky just to make the playoffs that year. Nobody took them seriously as a team that could beat the Athletics. Anybody can win a short series though and the Tigers almost did. It's funny. I remember that year for the player's strike more than anything else. I was nine years old and I couldn't figure out why anyone would go on strike from baseball! It was a bit of loss of innocence.
  2. As far as worst playoff moments, that Ortiz home run was the worst.
  3. It's still just one week in the fall though. It was a fun summer.
  4. yes, the end of 1987 was disappointing, but I think failing in the playoffs is a different kind of disappointment than having a disappointing season. 87 was a punch in the gut, but the 85 season was a full season let down for a team I thought was going to be a dynasty. I actually have mostly fond memories of 87 because it was the best pennant race of my lifetime, something that can no longer happen in today's game. 1987 and 2006 are two of my top five Tigers seasons. I guess I always figured the playoffs are just a crapshoot!
  5. But also 1,326 monor league PA versus 431 for Torkelson. I am really not comparing the two though. I am just saying that most great prospects get off to slow starts...and some of them never get going.
  6. The jury is out on every rookie ever. On the positive side, Mike Trout batted .220/.281/.390 his first year.
  7. How about Jarred Kellenic and Jo Adell?
  8. I saw "blacked out" and thought you were still talking about LaRussa
  9. Don't talk to me like that. I have a right to my opinion. Victor Reyes is not the only player who gets fake injuries. There could be others. I bet Casey Mize isn't really having surgery.
  10. You might be on to something here. The Tigers have had a lot of injuries this year. They can't all be real. The pitching staff has an epidemic of fake injuries.
  11. Being positive doesn't accomplish anything either (other than perhaps your mental health!)
  12. Maybe Reyes wanted a paid vacation.
  13. I think nothing will come out of it. The historical political record is important to political historians like some people here, but how many people will care about that?
  14. He is not going to be indicted and a substantial percentage of Republicans will still believe the election was stolen. I am not sure what I am hoping for realistically - maybe that he becomes upopular enough so that neither he nor anybody in his family can ever come close to winning an election again. If enouh people can see that he is a whack job maybe right wing nut jobs won't be able to win elections so easily in the future. The fear is this whole thing gets forgotten by July like everything else involving Trump.
  15. He's been a fraud for 40 years. It is baffling how many can not see it.
  16. They could have counted the write-in votes ahead of time. The Republicans didn't allow it because they wanted to make it look like the election was stolen.
  17. You can't blame their offense on the deadened ball. The MLB home run rate is on par with what is was from 2007-2015. So, it's not like this is some kind of new deadball era.
  18. I don't care about Hinch. The Astros are doing fine without him and the Tigers are still bad. However, if Fetters is responsible for the Tigers pitching and we need Hinch to keep Fetters, then I want Hinch as the manager.
