  1. I think it would affect nothing short-term. The team is probably going to come out of their slump soon regardless, so the new management would probably get credit it for it without really being responsible. Any real effect probably wouldn't come until the trade deadline or off-season.
  2. Yeah, I am pretty sure they are going to hit a lot better. Practically everyone is playing below their expectation and I agree with you on Torkelson. The injuries to Mize and Manning will be their biggest hurdle. They needed at least one of them to break out big this year and now I am worried about both of them. Their pitching has been surprisingly good so far, but there has been some luck and I don't think they have enough healthy horses to get through a 162-game season.
  3. I was thinking 83+ wins was possible before the season, but I think they have dug too deep of a hole for that now. I doubt they are a lottery team, but it will be hard for them to finish above .500.
  4. If there is a battle between philosophy and money, we know which one is going to win.
  5. You also told us that you believed his good hitting with the Mets was a sign of real improvement as a hitter. Baez has been exactly what he's always been which is a lot better than they had before.
  6. I think teams that are forced to trade good players for prospects lose the trade more often than not, but I believe that the Tigers have failed in that area worse than most. It really is amazing how much talent they've lost with virtually no return. You can take all those players individually and rationalize why they couldn't have done better. Ownership hasn't helped for instance. However, when you miss so many times, something is wrong.
  7. I am just saying that managers don't matter that much. I have seen a lot of fans saying that Hinch turned the whole organization around last year, but a manager can't do that. I don't think Avila has been good. The one good thing is that he has stuck to the plan and hasn't made any fatal mistakes like trading away young players too soon. His trades have been mostly bad and his drafts have been mediocre, but he hasn't been nearly as haphazard as Randy Smith. I don't think Avila has been as terrible as some say, but the results are not there after so many years, so I wouldn't mind if they fired him and tried somebody else. I am not sure ownership is very helpful either.
  8. Maybe they can get Dusty Baker. He is doing great in Hinch's old role.
  9. I haven't given up on this being an interesting development season when players get back from injuries. Everything had to go right this year to contend for a playoff spot and it hasn't.
  10. It's like a political discussion. When something good happens it's because your guy made it happen. If something bad happens, it's somebody else's fault.
  11. How do you know their record last year was because of Hinch? Teams get luckly and have random good years all the time. It's not like it's trending into this year.
  12. yeah, if someone is a good enough hitter where you can forgive subpar defense, they are usually in the starting line-up. Everybody on the bench should be able to field at a couple of positions well.
  13. As I read it, I think the team with the worst record with either get a lottery pick (1 through 6) or they would pick 7th.
  14. I believe the first lottery will be six teams in 2023.
  15. Szymborski is right. It's not a playoff team. It never really was. This is a development year. Unfortunately, most of the key pieces - Greene, Mize, Manning - have been hurt. Another big piece - Torkelson - is off to a slow start. How well those players do the rest of the season will determine what the off-season and 2023 look like.
  16. And they are doing it without the genius AJ Hinch! They are on pace to win 100 games with some old recycled manager.
  17. I never understood what was so great about Netflix. They aren't coming back. You look at Apple, Google and Amazon and you see them dominating everything but Netflix?
  18. Braden thinks that Soto sucks, so maybe he knows something.
  19. Sure, Bad hitting beats bad pitching all the time!
  20. I think I would be more concerned if he was swinging at balls in the dirt. Those guys seem to never get going. He can probably hit AAA breakng balls. He needs to learn to hit them in the majors. But I have no scouting credibility at all, so don't listen to me. 😄
