  1. It's always somebody else's fault.
  2. See, that's the problem. A very substantial proportion of the country wants an authoritarian leader (as long as he supports them). Archie is one of them.
  3. Whatcha got for Trump?
  4. Good point. I am ashamed to admit that I confused her with Susan Collins!
  5. Lisa Murkowski admits she is often afraid to speak out due to fear of retaliation from Trump. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/04/17/lisa-murkowski-trump-retaliation-00295852 She'll probably back track later and no other Republicans will dare to speak out, but that is quite an admission.
  6. Gorka is Thurston Howell III
  7. Even Trump's DOJ admitted that it was an administrative error.
  8. You need to get off of NewsMax
  9. I think he wouldn't be on the team if he didn't have the salary he has. He isn't blowing games as he is currently being used.
  10. But he'll have the biggest crowd size in history.
  11. Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier!
  12. I assumed he was using the casinos for money laundering...Either way, I wouldn't call it a success.
  13. Failures can certainly be part of success, but he had multiple casino bankruptcies which seems pretty hard to do.
  14. yeah, those matches were all considered major sporting events. You heard about them whether you were a boxing fan or not and they were all household names. Maybe, I'm just not paying attention, but it doesn't seem as if that has happened for years.
  15. I am not sure, but I don't hink their payroll is as far ahead of the rest of the league as it used to be. They are certainly not spending like the Dodgers.
  16. I am not sure what he means by "successful billionaire", but he has never invented anything or performed a unique service which changed the way people live their lives. To me, that is what makes a super wealthy person successful. He inherited his biggest business from his father and he has built everything around that. An inordinate number of his business ventures have failed either because he's a poor businessman or they weren't real businesses or both. His main skill seems to be making deals by bullying and manipulating people. That certainly wouldn't make him unique among billionaires, but I don't think it makes him successful among billonaires either.
  17. It sounds more like an excuse to not eat is salary than a role. If they think he can become effective enough to expand his role a bit, then that's another story.
  18. Another possibility is teams are spending more money to keep up with the Dodgers. I think that used to happen in the AL because of the Yankees.
  19. Not likely. They still won the game easily and his numbers were not affected.
  20. It's easier for Harvard to play hardball, because they receive so much money from philanthropists, but it's good to see one university standing up to Trump's authoritarianism. This has nothig top do with anti-semitism and everything to do with control. It's not the president's job to tell universities what they can teach and what they can research with funds they have already been awarded. https://www.cnn.com/2025/04/14/us/harvard-rejects-policy-changes/index.html
  21. It's partly about revenge for Trump, but I believe Del was spot on about Musk and other super wealthy businessmen wanting more control rather than tax cuts.
  22. I suppose if it's done it like you said, they might not get that message. I think in general though that kids are learning to fear and mistrust adults and that some adults may now be afraid to be friendly to kids.
  23. I doubt he was seriously in the running. It seems the Tigers had made a strong commitment to a more analytical organization at the point they hired Harris. I didn't get the impression that Menzin qualified. He had Avila era quant awareness, not Harris era.
  24. This is true. Easy access is a problem. People had too much access to prescription opioids which is how the epidemic got started. They have less access to prescription opioids now, but so many are now addicted that there is a big market in the United States for illegal opioids. That is why drug dealers come here so much. We also have great access to unhealthy foods. As usual, it's big business and big marketing telling us to eat all this stuff.
  25. It's not easy for some people, but we have so many more obese people than most other countries (including developed and undeveloped countries). Why is that? I have been around 6-0 150 my entire life which is probably average in many countries, but I have been told I'm too skinny and need to put some meat on my bones on many occasions. I eat plenty, never go hungry and am generally healthy, so I never feel a need to gain weight. For some men though, there seems to be a pressure to be big. At social events, people (both men and women) are compelled to eat a lot. It feels like the same pressure put on people to drink alcohol. Maybe that is something that needs to change about our society.
