  1. I grew in the Big Red Machine era and they were frequently on national TV which was a big deal back then. They were one of the most exciting teams I have seen in my life. Thus, I have always liked the Reds.
  2. Not offensively. He had 127 plate appearances last year. You can't tell a lot from that.
  3. We don't know how good Greene would have been initially. Many top prospects struggle at first no matter how good they hit in the minors. We do not know that he would have hit better than Meadows. His defense probably would have helped, but it's not like he is an elite defender.
  4. At least you didn't call her articulate.
  5. There is no such thing as pitching depth! But that's kind of why you need bats.
  6. It sounded more like a guest interview than color, but she wasn't bad. She has a good voice which is half the battle on the radio.
  7. MLB writer Allyson Footer did color for the middle three innings on the radio. I only heard the last inning, so I can't say how good she was. I am pretty sure it was just a one time thing.
  8. The Tigers need to be Castrated.
  9. I always thought it would be easier to play for a team with expectations than a team with no hope. It must be hard to stay motivated when you expect your team to lose most nights.
  10. I will just say that Mays had much better baseball skills than Obama had Presidential skills. No person in America could do what Mays did. You political hounds will probably disagree, but I would say that there are probably hundreds of thousands of people who are qualified to be President at any given time. They don't have the connections, money, charisma to pull it off. Beyond money and connections, their skill at salesmanship/persuasion/bullshit is what gets them the job. It's a big part of what they do.
  11. "Defund the police" is pretty extreme and there are actually some extremists who take the term literally.
  12. Fortunately, it's the Catholics who dominate Massachusetts over the Evangelicals. I often forget that Catholicism is frowned upon in some states. While there are some overbearing Catholics, I think Evangelicals tend to be more overbearing than Catholics.
  13. Petry is probably the best. He has been underrated and overshadowed by Jack Morris his whole life. Gibson would be the best if not for his illness.
  14. OK, he is a good salesman. He is not well spoken nor articulate.
  15. I think it's OK to pump up prospects in a prospect thread like this one. In general though, most prospects fail to become major league regulars.
  16. Most of the people in my life are at least somewhat religious. Most of them you barely even know it because they keep it to themselves. That's how it should be. There are some exceptions.
  17. I don't think there is anything wrong with what Hinch said and I don't think it means he is unhappy in Detroit, but I do think it was atypical for a manager to talk that way.
  18. It's very plausible and it's the main reason for those 75-win projections being made before the season. They are playing very poorly now, but they were not going to win anyway unless most of their young players had break out seasons at the same time, which is unreasonable.
  19. Many people do want religious leaders.
  20. Equally effective at becoming president maybe, but one is viewed as a buffoon worldwide and the other will be remembered as one of the best orators of his time. .
  21. Yes, I understand it's a code word but sometimes it applies. I don't know anything about Karine Jean-Pierre, but I would say that the most important part of her job is speaking well. How can we say it? Erudite is not a word that most people relate to. What do I say to a Black student who comes to me looking for advice before an interview and I think one of her best qualities is her communication skills? Is it OK to say that she has good communication skills or is there another phrase I should use.
  22. I understand you are not making it up right now. I also believe in well intentioned honesty. How can you analyze Obama's presidency without mentioning his oration skills? That is how he became president and I do think communication skills are one of the important qualifications of a good president. The comparison between Obama and the two recent old white guy presidents is stunning.
  23. Obama is very well spoken. Are we never allowed to say that a Black person speaks well even when he does? It is one of his greatest strengths and it is highlighted by the fact that the last two presidents have been horrible speakers.
  24. I didn't care for Impemba and Allen, but they were better than what they have now. It's amazing that Dickeron is so good, the best in the game I think, and nobody else with the Tigers is even close.
